Bethenny's Makeup Artist Reveals 3 Hot Fall Looks to Try Right Now

Make like the #RHONY ladies and nail the season's fearless styles.

If summer makeup was all about natural looks and minimalism, fall is all about… maximalism. The season’s top makeup trends embrace attitudes of fearlessness and statement making, says Giovanni Vaccaro. He’s the creative director for GlamSquad, the buzzy mobile beauty app with clients like Bethenny Frankel

Although the calendar says fall, in many parts of the country the thermometer still says sweltering summer. That can be a tricky time to keep makeup looking tidy and pretty. “Keeping makeup fresh during this transitional time of year is a challenge! The key to looking flawless for pre-fall is all about primers — primers are problem solvers,” Giovanni says. “If you typically become shiny or oily, start with a mattifying primer; this creates a smooth surface for makeup to be applied and helps makeup maintain a matte look.”

As for where to look for inspiration, he says that Bethenny is a model client. “[She] loves to use shimmer on the cheeks to give her skin a luminous silky glow, which is essential for fall.” Beyond that, he says the whole RHONY crew is worthy of emulation… they’re doing it right! “The women of The Real Housewives of New York always look polished and chic, without being overdone,” he says. “They get to embrace fall trends, in clothes as well as hair and makeup, because the weather in New York allows them to!” (OK, and probably because they know what they’re doing.)

Giovanni shared with The Daily Dish his top picks for fall makeup trends you can try at home right now.

1. Bold lips

“Your fall look instantly becomes next level when you add a bold lip,” he says. And the good news is that poring over perfection isn’t necessarily key: “Lip crayons are the easiest way to draw on a perfect pout and eliminate the need for a lip pencil, where the importance of precision always takes extra time and attention.”

As for lip colors, he says this season is about takes on familiar classics. “From deep burgundy to radiant raspberry, red is the obvious choice,” he says. “Ranging from rich and moody to playful and romantic, pick a shade that complements your skin and style.”

2. Shimmer

“The fall and holiday seasons are all about twinkle and sparkle!” he says. But it’s NBD if you find yourself at work without your whole stable of glittery products as you head for an evening out. “An easy substitute [for an array of other shiny products] is lip gloss: Swipe a little on the back of your hand like a palette. Use your ring finger to dab gloss along the tops of cheekbones and on the eyelid to add a light, reflective shine to your skin. This trick will give you an instant radiance without the time-consuming moisturizer, foundation, and concealer routine,” he says.

3. Dramatic smoky eyes

According to Vacarro, the natural look isn’t so much a thing for fall. Right now, it’s about major drama around the eyes. Here’s how to do it: “Generously line the inner rim of the bottom lash line all the way from the tear duct to the outer edge. Then, use your ring finger to smudge the product into the lash line. Close your eyes tightly to transfer the product to the top lash line. Go lighter on the liner for a more subtle smoky chic, or pile on the pencil and exaggerate the smudge for a seriously sultry smoke.”

If that sounds like a lot of look to accompany a bold lip, tone down the pout when you go for major drama on the eyes: “Pair a statement smoky eye with a natural complexion and neutral lip. Add a little lip balm with a drop of concealer for a quick nude lip, and you're ready to get the party started.” Heeeeey!
