Bravo Shows, Kathy Griffin Snag Do-Something! Awards Nominations

RHOBH, Tabatha, Top Chef Masters and Kathy Griffin need your votes.

For anyone who ever said that housewives don’t do anything it looks like the ladies of Beverly Hills and a few other Bravo stars are doing something right.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and two other Bravo shows, Tabatha Takes Over, and Top Chef Masters, are nominated for the 2012 Do-Something Award in the Reality TV Show category. And never one to be forgotten, Kathy Griffin is up for best comedian.

The State of Female Comediennes

These Bravo hits have no one to thank but the loyal and loving fans. Fans can vote online for their favorites in each category, with final voting beginning in July. But it's Bravo’s young (or at least young at heart) fans that will ultimately make the decision in who comes out on top; the awards and the organization as a whole are targeted at young people.

“This is not your grandma's award show,” says CEO “and Chief Old Person” of DoSomething.org, Nancy Lublin, “There will be no violins and no balls gowns.”

And though the Do-Something Awards are sure to be a good time with musical performances, and special guests, Do-Something describes the awards as "the premiere national award for community service where nominees and winners represent the pivotal “do-ers” in their field, cause, or issue."

Along with their undeniable entertainment factor each of these Bravo shows were chosen based on the good that they’ve done for their community or cause: The fabulously wealthy ‘wives of Beverly Hills host events to generate money and awareness for special causes, hard-ass Tabatha takes small businesses in distress and turns them into a success, while the master chefs of Top Chef Masters put their skills to the test to win $100,000 for a charity of their choice.

A nomination for Ms. Griffin is no surprise as former winner of the Comedian award in 2010. Her Beauty Pageant spoof supports the American Heart Association in honor of her father as well as AIDS prevention and research. Griffin has also been renowned as a champion of women's equality and LGBT rights. She was a key spokesperson in the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ and is a continuous advocate of marriage equality in the U.S.

Last year’s winning Reality TV Show was America’s Best Dance Crew,” while the Anchorman himself, Will Ferrell, took home the prize for Do-Something Comedian.

But the glory of winning the winged-sneaker shaped award is not the only benefit. Each finalist receives a $10,000 community grant and one “do-er” will be awarded $100,000 for their cause.”

The event will be held at the Hollywood Palladium in LA,  and is scheduled to air on Tuesday, August 21st, 2012 @ 9/8c on VH1. Make sure to watch what happens and don’t forget to vote for your favorite Bravo do-gooders.
