Chris March's Incoming Calls: Andy Cohen, Lady Gaga

Mad Fashion star on what brought him back to Bravo.

By Colleen Werthmann

Chris March of Mad Fashion gave major this week yesterday at Michael's, the midtown power-lunch destination for Manhattan's air-kissing media elite. Chris, the Season 4 Project Runway fan favorite whose outrageous looks raised eyebrows, is back on Bravo with his own show – which he says was shepherded to the air with the help of none other than Andy Cohen.

Chris told Mediabistro's FishbowlNY when he was shopping around an idea for his own show, designing wild creations for an eccentric clientele, he got an unexpected boost from Andy. When the Bravo big wig and Watch What Happens Live host heard about Chris' idea, Andy got in touch and insisted Bravo see it first, and "the deal was done in a matter of days."

So far TV's been a smart move for Chris, but he's adamant he's not in it for the face time: "I didn't do either show to get famous... I did it to get to do the type of work I wanted to do."  He believes the show is the reason he got a call from Lady Gaga's office requesting a fabulous creation for her to wear at the I Heart Radio concert in Vegas. Chris delivered a studded motorcycle cape to her in less than a week, noting, "That wouldn't have happened without being on television."

Chris also said that he hopes to push the envelope with fashion, saying he finds today's red carpets "dull," because celebs are too afraid to make a true splash (amen!). "There aren't a lot of places that celebrities can take chances. Maybe they can push it a little bit at the VMAs and the Grammys, and then they are criticized for being 'too safe.'" He says his dream clients include Katy Perry and Christina Hendricks. Christina's fallen victim to a few fashion disasters, but Chris has a plan already mapped out to make her look great: "You can't take a person with an unusual shape and put her in something you can go out and buy. She needs custom undergarments and then design the dress over them. Then everything will fit perfectly."
