We've been with Cynthia Bailey and Peter Thomas through every step of their relationship on The Real Housewives of Atlanta over the years, from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. Now that the couple has decided to call it quits, Cynthia teased that we will see her divorce "play out" in the upcoming Season 9 of RHOA while she served as guest co-host of The Real on Tuesday (clip above).
Cynthia explained why she and her husband decided to be so open about their marriage on RHOA. “Peter and I, we’ve always been very transparent in our relationship and that’s worked for and against us at the same time,” she said on The Real. “Just being on the show, I think it’s been important for us to just really keep it real, like you guys do.”
But Cynthia said she also expects to have a tough time watching this season of RHOA. “It’s kind of hard because we got married on the show — we’re the only couple that actually got married on The Real Housewives of Atlanta — and to have to go through a divorce on the show is not easy," she said. "But I think the only thing more tragic than divorce is being in something that’s not working anymore.”
Cynthia and Peter were married at the end of Season 3 of RHOA, and they also had a vow renewal ceremony in Season 5. In addition to these happy moments, the couple's marital issues have also been featured on the show, from Peter's drama with Cynthia's sister Malorie Bailey-Massie to the rift caused by a video leaked online last year showing the RHOA husband speaking closely with another woman.
Even though Cynthia and Peter publicly announced their separation earlier this year, it looks like they have remained on good terms. The two were spotted on vacation together earlier this month, along with many of Cynthia's RHOA castmates. Cynthia also sent Peter her best wishes for his 56th birthday on October 1.
How will Cynthia and Peter deal with the end of their marriage and begin a new chapter of their lives? See more when RHOA returns for Season 9 on Sunday, November 6 at 8/7c.
