Exclusive: Josh Altman Explains His 'I Sell the Dream' Rap Video

The Million Dollar agent busts a rhyme to raise money for the troops.

By Mike Hess

Josh Altman admits he's kind of a "hardass" on Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, generally opting for actual business over funny business. When it comes to charity, though, Josh is all about having some fun, as you'll clearly see in his faux rap debut in the video for "I Sell the Dream," a little tune Josh whipped up for a good cause.

"I had wanted to do something where I wanted to raise as much money as possible for a charity The Wounded Warrior Project. Altman exclusively tells The Dish about his video and song, which debuted on Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday night. So, he called in all sorts of favors for music production, mansions, fancy cars, guest star cameos (all rap video staples), somehow convinced his girlfriend Heather to rock a skimpy bikini, and voila, a real-estate rap video parody was born. All proceeds from iTunes downloads, ringtone purchases and video streams on YouTube will go towards the charity.

And before you jump to conclusions of a newfound rap career for Josh (despite there actually being some catchy lines rhyming "let's go" with "escrow"), Josh is well aware that the song is nothing more than good fun, despite his childhood penchant for The Beastie Boys.

"Everyone who knows me knows I'm a pretty funny guy and I like to joke around a lot," Altman said, saying that he wanted to show off his playful side you don't often see on MDLLA. "This is all about helping the troops out."

Altman became interested in the charity because aside from just helping soldiers recover from injuries, it also helps them out with mortgage assistance, and given Josh's experience in that world, it seemed like a natural fit.

As for Heather and her bikini-dancing debut? "She was actually all about this," Josh laughs. "When I told her I needed her to be in a bikini, she was as cool as a girlfriend can be when you ask her to put on a bikini and dance in a video."

Josh says once everyone was on board -- including his pal MJ from Shahs of Sunset, brought in for a sweet cameo during a line about a hookah room -- the taping took a day, which given the production value, is pretty impressive. And, if "I Sell the Dream" does well and raises a good amount of money for the charity, Josh already has an R&B follow-up brewing in his head.

"The next one might be an R&B spoof called 'No Contingencies, Please.' Take R Kelly R&B in the bedroom talking about contingincies," he said, laughing all the while.
