Did Fantasia Barrino Just Throw Shade at the New American Idol Judges?

Is ‘American Idol’ Returning Too Soon?

Some people wait a lifetime for their favorite show to return to air — but some people think it's just too soon for American Idol to come back. As you can imagine, this is the subject of a very contentious debate. So, where does the competition's third season winner Fantasia Barrino stand on the matter? The singer spilled the tea when she stopped by the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen Clubhouse on December 3.

To review: The reality competition went dark in April 2016 and is primed to hit the air again in March of next year. The show will have a new panel of judges, including Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie. But, some things never change, and Ryan Seacrest will return to host the show that introduced the world to Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. (And, of course, William Hung.)

When a WWHL caller asked Barrino what she thinks of the reboot, and if she was asked to be a judge, the singer confided that she had not been approached for judging duties. She then paused to consider her next words before Andy Cohen jumped in with the question on everyone's mind: "Is [the reboot] too soon, do you think?"

Barrino admitted that the comeback might be a little soon — after all, the show has had a healthy, 15-year run already. "How many Idols are you going to have?" she asked. And while the singer is glad to see that the show will return to open doors for new performers, she does seem to have one concern that might have to do with the new crew of judges.

Watch Barrino spill her thoughts in the clip above, and see if you agree with Andy when he says: "I think [Fantasia] was just a little shady!"
