Jewel Gives Us a Peek at 'Platinum Hit'

The singer-songwriter discusses her craft and the competition in a pre-show blog.

Are you ready to go 'Platinum'?

Well, Jewel wants to make sure you are. With Platinum Hit premiering next week (Monday, May 30 at 10/9 C), the singer-songwriter penned a blog that gives some insight into the process behind writing a track.

Jewel had a little time on her hands (she's eight months pregnant, you know), and let us in on why she chose to get involved with the show and Bravo.

"The reason I got involved with the show is because, as a songwriter myself, I am very passionate about songwriting, but it's a world many people don't know exists -- especially the world of the behind the scenes hit-makers," Jewel wrote. "Bravo has a great track record of taking somewhat obscure topics, like dressmaking or cooking, and helping to educate the viewer about what the process is and what it takes to be great at it. I am excited to give people a glimpse into the world of these hit-makers -- writers whose job it has been to make hits for others since the Tin Pan Alley era and beyond, when writers like Gershwin and Cole Porter were tasked with writing hits that are still standards to this day."

Find out more about the songwriting process, from how long it takes a good songwriter to craft a hook (as little as 20 mintues), to Jewel's songwriting mentors (Bob Dylan, not a bad example) and her tough judging style in her blog.
