Kathy Griffin Steps Up for the Trevor Project

D-List star taking the stage for LGBTQ teens.

Mazel, Kathy Griffin! The My Life on the D-List star announced that she's donating her take from her upcoming show in L.A. to the Trevor Project, the non-profit suicide and crisis hotline for LGBTQ youth. The news came after Kathy appeared on Larry King Live to discuss bullying, homophobia, and the soaring suicide rate among gay teens. In fact, Larry himself broke the news via Twitter (yes, Larry King is on Twitter), and Kathy promptly RTed it out to her fans. "@KathyGriffin announced she's donating her entire salary from her Dec 16 show at the Gibson Amphitheater to @TrevorProject" Larry wrote.

Kathy was joined by Wanda Sykes, Tim Gunn, and Lance Bass on Larry's show, where Kathy took aim at institutional homophobia as the root cause for bullying and violence against gays.

"Let's cut the crap. The way that we had trickle down economics in the '80s, this is trickle down homophobia," Kathy told King. "I really want people to connect the dots, and that's why I think there's a connection between Prop 8, Don’t Ask Don't Tell, and now this string of teen suicides. It's almost sanctioned to bully gay people and to treat them as second class citizens."

Kathy has been vocal about the issue, addressing it on her official site, driving those in need of support to the Trevor Project. To learn more about the cause or to find support, visit TheTrevorProject.org or call 1-866-4-U-TREVOR.

Of course, Kathy isn't the only Bravo star speaking out. Teresa Giudice threw her support behind the Trevor Project and the grassroots It Gets Better awareness campaign via Twitter, while our Andy Cohen shared his story in his own It Gets Better video last week.
