Kyle Richards Discusses Being "Personally Affected" By Breast Cancer

After mom Kathleen lost her battle in 2002, Kyle began raising awareness.

By Lauren Metz

On The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Kyle Richards often speaks about keeping a promise she made to her late mother that she'd always look after older sister Kim Richards. But Kyle is also remembering mom Kathleen – who passed away in 2002 from breast cancer -- in another way. Kyle recently hosted an event in Beverly Hills called the Cure in the Canyon, and also participated in a 68-mile bike ride along with husband Mauricio Umansky to promote breast cancer awareness.

"I have four daughters, so it is a very important cause for me since I have been personally affected by that," she told her local newspaper, the Beverly Hills Courier.

Yes, despite whatever friction you see on the show, family is paramount to Kyle -- the bond between her and Kim might bend, but don't expect it to break. "I want everyone to know that I LOVE my sister and have ALWAYS been there for her," Kyle writes on her blog. "My mother always taught us that any accomplishment my sisters or I achieve is a 'feather in all our caps.' Kathy, Kim, and I are always proud of each other. We feel that each of our lives is a reflection on all of us. We all want the best for each other."
