Does Luann de Lesseps Believe Tom D'Agostino Was Faithful During Their Marriage?
The #RHONY mom opens up about the rumors surrounding her relationship.
There has always been a lot of speculation surrounding Luann de Lesseps' relationship with Tom D'Agostino, especially when it came to his fidelity. The photo of Tom kissing an his ex-girlfriend at the Regency caused a stir last season of The Real Housewives of New York City, and the gossip continued in Season 9, whether it was rumors that Ramona Singer brought to Luann's attention or some eyebrow-raising talk with another ex, Missy.
So when Luann announced that she and Tom were planning to divorce on Twitter on August 3, many wondered if any of these rumors rang true. Luann addressed the speculation that Tom had cheated on her during Watch What Happens Live One-on-One with Luann de Lesseps Wednesday night, which you can view in the above clip.
Though Luann always stood by her man amid the gossip, she revealed to Andy Cohen what finally made her think differently. "It was constant. It didn't stop. It was like every week the same thing, and it was like, 'I can't do this anymore,'" she explained. "I don't think that he could really give up his bachelor life to lead a married life the way I wanted to."
Still, Luann said that she believed Tom really did want to be married to her. "I think that he really loved me. I really do. And he still loves me," she said. "At this age, it's really hard to change people, and of course, I said to him, 'Don't go to the Regency.' And he was not gonna change his lifestyle. Yes, he did. And it was a problem to me. I just expected more. I expected things to change."
Tom commented on the split for the first time during an interview with E! News Wednesday. "I fell in love, got married quickly and am very sad that two people in love are not together," he said. "I wish Luann much happiness and love."
Luann went on to say that she doesn't believe that Tom and Missy were more than just friends. However, she admitted that she should have seen "the big red flag" of that photo of Tom kissing another woman that Bethenny Frankel showed her last season of RHONY. "But I loved him, and I chose to forgive him. I thought, 'If you can't forgive the people you love, then who can you forgive?'" she shared. "And I know that it wasn't an affair. It wasn't an affair; it was a kiss. It wasn't right, but I chose to give him the benefit of the doubt. But looking back, it's a major character flaw."
Though Luann was adamant about not caring about Tom's relationships "before Lu," she discussed whether she would care about what happens "after Lu," such as if Tom began dating Missy now. "I'm trying to move forward, and of course, it would be uncomfortable if he started to date one of the girls that the girls have been warning me about on the show," she said. "So it would be uncomfortable, that's for sure."
