More Babies on the Way for Padma Lakshmi?

The Top Chef host calls her first child "a miracle."

It really isn’t hyperbole to call Padma Lakshmi’s daughter a miracle, as Padma puts it. After decades of excruciating menstrual pain that would leave her scrunched up in a ball, the Top Chef host was finally diagnosed with endometriosis at the age of 36. (Endometriosis is a condition in which the cells that usually like the womb grow outside of it causing agonizing menstrual cramps and severely reduces the possibility of getting pregnant naturally.)

Padma ended up having five separate major surgeries because of the condition. “They (doctors) told me it would be difficult to have kids and if I wanted to be a mother I should get started or consider freezing my eggs,” she told UK’s Daily Mail.

So Padma stopped using contraception pills during the freezing process and didn’t go back on them because she thought, "Well, what was the point?" And that’s when she became pregnant with Krishna who turns three next week.

She admits that when first told the news she could hardly believe it but the astonishment quickly turned into “elation.”

“I was galvanized by what I went through,” she admitted. To help other women with the painful condition, Padma co-founded The Endometriosis Foundation of America (EFA).

The 42-year-old beauty would love to have more kids but knows that age and her condition make it unlikely. “I’ve always wanted to be a mother,” she said, “but I never knew it would be so much fun and I’d enjoy it so immensely. My daughter is such great company. I would love to have another child or two. ...there are all those little eggs sitting out there somewhere...”
