Ben Robinson: What’s He Up To Now?

The #BelowDeck chef dishes on life on (and off) the yacht.

It’s been some time since since we checked in with Ben Robinson, the no-nonsense chef on Below Deck. For the past two seasons we’ve gotten a glimpse of drama from the high seas, with things constantly heating up in and outside of the kitchen.

Ben seems like a natural in front of the cameras, but reveals that becoming a cast member was quite a fluke. “Back in 2013, I was on an online forum late one night, and I noticed an ad for a reality yacht chef,” he tells the Miami Herald. “I wrote them a funny, late-night letter and thought nothing of it. Two days later I received a call from a casting agent out of L.A.” The rest is history!

So how has being on Below Deck been for the young chef? “Overall, it has been an absolute rollercoaster,” he says. “Whenever you are a part of reality TV, it is always going to bring a dysfunctional side to your life. I’ve had to learn to adapt, drop everything.”

But despite hitting some rough patches now and then, there have been some positive takeaways, too. “People sometimes stop me in the street and want to talk to me. I actually like this; I’ve always been very social,” he says. “It’s fun meeting new people.”

When he’s not setting sail, Ben reveals that he’s become majorly attached to his house in South Florida. “I bought a place a couple of years back in Fort Lauderdale, which I am proud to call home,” he says. “It has been a labor of love. I have a passion for design and construction, and I feel like I was able to express a truly unique space.”

”Having spent a great deal of time as a nomadic yacht chef it was always a dream of mine to have a home,” he continues. “I would stand in the galley and try to picture my own kitchen or living room or bedroom one day.”
