Padma Has a Ball for Charity

Top Chef host heads Endometriosis Foundation event.

By Jordan Upmalis

Padma Lakshmi brought her commanding hosting skills to the New York Public Library over the weekend to continue her deeply personal work in the fight against endometriosis.

Padma hosted the third annual Blossom Ball, benefiting the Endometriosis Foundation of America, which she co-founded in 2009. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Top Chef host presided over a night of food, wine, Brazilian Carnival dancers, at least two outfit changes, and some classic dish critiquing. "I'm sorry that the sweet mashed potatoes are a little spicy," she said at one point.

"That's why you've got to love Padma," event co-chair Susan Sarandon told the Journal. "She takes every dish so seriously."

Padma was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2006, and launched the Endometriosis Foundation of America three years later with specialist Dr. Tamer Seckin. The foundation estimates that endometriosis affects 176 million females around the world, and may account for up to half of all cases of infertility. For more on the cause, visit the Foundation's website.
