Patti Stanger: The Single Ladies' Guide to Valentine's Day

Unattached and looking for love? The Matchmaker shares her tips for not feeling pathetic this weekend.

By Sabrina Ford

Patti Stanger does not have a handsome, well-to-do love connection for every single woman this Valentine's Day. What the Millionaire Matchmaker star does have, however, is plenty of advice for women deflated by the prospect of being the only single at the bar—or worse, hiding under the covers at home. Patti maintains that if love is what you want, "You need to get the romance going now so next year you're not in this position." Patti shares her five best tips for making the most of Valentine's Day without a boo.

How to Watch

Drink—and drink early.
"I really like Saturday happy hour, even if it's a regular week," says Patti, who advises arriving, and leaving, early. (Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday this year.) "Around 7:30 the champagne-popping and proposals start. You don't want to be there. Get there at 3:30 and stay until around five. Single men will be out in droves."

Look happy and carefree.
Patti suggests asking a single girlfriend to join you at happy hour and wearing a sexy LBD and a smile. "Just look happy. Look like you don't care. The minute you care, you lose the deal. Men will come over and buy you drinks."

Don't take his number.
"When you take someone's number, you're the alpha," says Patti, who believes woman should be pursued. "When you give someone your number, you're the beta. Women think they are being safe by taking his number instead of giving him theirs, turns out, they're going to seem aggressive to the man and turn him off."

If you're staying in, pamper yourself.
"If it's snowing or cold out and you're not really digging it, get your funniest romantic comedies out," Patti says. "You want to spend the year preparing for love so you need to get in the mindset. Watch the movies that make you laugh and summon you to feel good about yourself." And also, treat yourself: "Eat popcorn and your favorite foods," says Patti. "Make it a spa night—wear your pajamas and put a facial mask on."

Shoot for the stars.
"Right before you hit the pillow on Valentine's Day, meditate on the partner you want. Lay there and summon that energy," says Patti, who is all about dreaming big. "I don't care if Brad Pitt's your target, because what's gonna happen is, you're going to summon a Brad Pitt-type. Meditate at midnight."
