Rachel Zoe: 'I'm Not Trying to be Marc Jacobs'

"I would not put myself in the same sentence with him," the stylist-turned-designer says.

By Lauren Metz

Rachel Zoe's biz may be blowing up, but her head isn't. "I think of myself as making beautiful, well-cut, well-tailored clothes. But I'm not trying to be Marc Jacobs. I would not put myself in the same sentence with him," Marc's good pal tells The New York Times.

Continuing to be the anti-bragasaurus, Rachel confessed her jitters about showing her collection at this year's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC. "I'm nervous. My last show was a presentation; the models were just standing. But this time they are actually going to be walking. It's a moving presentation in an intimate setting. But don’t even say the word runway show."

And when those models finally flawlessly sashayed down the catwalk, they did so in pieces inspired by London circa the '60s and '70s. "That's where I live," Skyler mama says. "And consciously or not, that’s the way I dress. If you took Mick Jagger in the '60s and made him a woman, these things are what he’d be wearing. With a bit of Marianne Faithfull, Bianca Jagger and Jane Birkin thrown into the mix."

And of course there was sparkle. "I can't ever do a collection without a splash of sequins," RZ spills.
