RIP Donna Summer: Remembering Her on 'Platinum Hit'

The dance queen made a major appearance on Bravo's songwriting competition.

Donna Summer, the songwriter who mixed dance with R&B to chart-topping success with hits like "On the Radio" and "Last Dance," suddenly passed away at the age of 63 on Thursday. Donna was a force to be reckoned with in the music world -- and she served as a mentor and guest on Platinum Hit last year.

During her appearance, the contestants were tasked with writing a dance song that they then had to perform in a Hollywood club. Summer acknowledged that having to create a song like that on the spot is something she couldn't imagine, and that the contestants were facing some major pressure. "It's very important that you write with someone who is strong in your weaknesses. There are all kinds of songwriters. Some people are emotional writers and write almost from their spirits," she said.

When asked about her own expertise, Summer said on the show: "I think I have a little bit of an idea of what it takes to write a good dance song. The key aspect is first of all finding a good topic, and the hook and a jamming track. I think for some people the hardest part of the challenge is to commit to something.

The five-time Grammy winner could belt out ballads or fast-paced dance songs with the best of them, including hits like "Love to Love You Baby" and the 1980s female-empowering club hit "She Works Hard for the Money." In fact, what better way to remember her than by watching her belt out her classic in the video below.
