It's not all courting clients, showing palatial pads and closing deals for Million Dollar Listing New York's Ryan Serhant: dude's got his dating game on lock, and he recently dished out a few of his first date tips for Glamour. Given that this is coming from the real-life Christian Grey himself, his pointers are definitely worth considering.
For Ryan, mystery, keeping it real and keeping it together are clutch when it comes to meeting up for a first date: "Think of it this way: share the positives while simultaneously maintaining a level of intrigue and mystery." Still, there's plenty to avoid over cocktails and dinner, and Ryan spells out what shouldn't come up in conversation before the date's over.
He covers it all—from sex to exes to substance abuse—and he hardly sugarcoats it. Taboo turns of phrase you should avoid on a date, according to Ryan: "I have a third date rule...it’s best not to assume that I'm just trying to take you home," he says. As for any discussion of children, he says to avoid that, too. "I want to get to know you and learn about your life and ambitions first before hearing about whether or not you want to have my children," he says.
Past exes are off limits. "Do I feel bad for you?" he asks. "Sure. Do I want to hear all about it? Not really." And any talks of addiction are a no-go. "Save [admitting you are in AA] for a 4th or 5th date once you’ve solidified a connection," he says.
Given how solid Ryan's dating tips are, we wouldn't be surprised if he starts joining forces with Patti Stanger for some match-making as a side gig.
