The Role of Elaine on Seinfeld Almost Went to *This* Actress
Megan Mullally reveals how close she was to landing the iconic TV role on #WWHL.
One of Megan Mullally's most famous roles was of course playing Karen Walker on Will & Grace. However, the Emmy-winning actress almost starred as another iconic TV character: Seinfeld's Elaine Benes.
Megan confirmed that she was close to landing the part, which ultimately went to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, during Thursday night's Watch What Happens Live, and please excuse us as our jaws drop to the floor. "Yes, isn't that weird?" she told host Andy Cohen. "Yeah, I went in just a couple of times [to read with Jerry Seinfeld], but we had really good chemistry and everything, so I actually thought I was gonna get it."
Things got even weirder when Megan revealed that she also dated Julia's husband of 29 years, Brad Hall, when the two attended Northwestern University as undergrads. Clearly, these funny ladies have good taste in roles and men!
Megan did eventually end up on Seinfeld in a memorable 1993 episode as George Constanza's (Jason Alexander) girlfriend, who drags him to her aunt's funeral. Unfortunately, that relationship doesn't last too long, since Megan's character calls it off with George after he gets into it with her brother about his double dipping habit.
Megan and Julia also shared the screen (and a kiss) during a 2008 episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine.
These two actresses are so in sync, here's hoping we get to see them work together again one day soon.
