Mercedes “MJ” Javid’s Father Shams Javid Has Passed Away
The Shahs of Sunset newlywed opened up about her father’s health struggles last season.
Mercedes “MJ” Javid’s father Shams Javid has passed away, the Shahs of Sunset newlywed shared on Instagram Friday.
MJ shared the news in a post that featured several photos of her father from the past and prior to his passing. "It is with great regret that I share the news of my sweet father’s passing," she wrote in the post. "Although this is something extremely personal for me and it’s taken some time to process, those of you who have followed my journey know how much I loved my father. I am comforted knowing he is in a better place now. I am so thankful for my mom [Vida], [husband] Tommy, my family and friends, who have been incredibly supportive through this greatest loss."
MJ opened up about her father’s health struggles last season of Shahs of Sunset as he recovered from a stroke. She often gave fans a glimpse into her hospital visits, bringing along friends like Reza Farahan and her now-husband Tommy Feight from time to time.
Season 6 of Shahs of Sunset was understandably an emotional time for MJ as she cared for her father. MJ said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last October that she was experiencing a lot of “stress” last season, partly due to her father’s condition. "I lived for my dad,” MJ explained. “It was really hard. I was in denial. I didn't know how to handle it."
Shahs of Sunset fans have long been acquainted with MJ’s mother Vida. However, MJ opened up to The Huffington Post prior to the start of Season 6 about sharing her close relationship with her father with the world and what made it so special. “What a lot of people don’t know was that my dad was the ‘single mom’ raising me. He’s the quieter person not featured on the show," MJ said. "He has always been my best friend, the one who picked me up from school, nursery through college. My friends and I would walk over and tell my dad everything, so now talking about my dad is important to me."
This news comes just about a month after MJ married Tommy in Los Angeles on April 21.
