Tyler Rowland's Near-Death Experience Shares an Eerie Similarity to Ashton Pienaar's Overboard Accident

The Below Deck crew member's past brush with death was even more horrifying than you know.

By Laura Rosenfeld

Ashton Pienaar's overboard accident was definitely the scariest moment in the history of Below Deck. But he's unfortunately not the only M/Y Seanna crew member to have gone through a near-death experience.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck on Bravo Mondays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

New deckhand Tyler Rowland opened up earlier this season of Below Deck about a terrifying car accident in which a truck transporting himself and nine other passengers went over a cliff. Tyler had planned to go to college for track, but the accident ruined his athletic career. "I couldn't do sports because I was on crutches and I was picking rocks out of my skin," Tyler revealed during the episode, noting that he didn't break any bones.

Tyler then decided to fight forest fires, and he eventually got into yachting after moving to Southern California "to surf and be a beach bum."

The wreck was actually even more horrifying than you know, as Tyler recounted during the Below Deck Season 6 After Show. The deckhand goes into even more excruciating detail about the experience, including something about his incident that's eerily similar to Ashton's overboard accident.

Ultimately, something positive did come out of this traumatic experience, Tyler shared on Below Deck. "I think the accident really opened my eyes about playing it safe," he said during the episode. "I decided I was going to live every day like it would be my last."
