What Should Miley Cyrus Wear to the VMAs?

#KellOnEarth's Kelly Cutrone breaks down the fashion dos and don'ts of the big night.

By Jocelyn Vena

The MTV Video Music Awards take place on Sunday (August 30) and anything can happen. (That's pretty much a given with Miley Cyrus set to host the show.) And with performers like Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, and Demi Lovato set to take the stage, this year's show will probably spark some water cooler debate come Monday morning, especially when it comes to all things fashion.

So to get excited about the A-listers walking the carpet, we here at The Daily Dish enlisted the help of Kell on Earth fashion PR maven Kelly Cutrone to give us a preview of what we might see come Sunday.

Things to remember: "It's not Disney princess time."

"It's not the time to pull out your Oscar look," Kelly advises the night's fashionistas. "The Video Music Awards are what they say. It's about youth. It's about freshness. It's about cool factor. For a younger girl, I would love to see a really great black or white tuxe with a really beautiful leather or printed or sparkle bandeau with a killer ankle boot with a high ponytail. [That] would be really great. I think that would be an awesome look."

Potential trend alert: All things sparkly

"I'm seeing a lot of the requests — a lot of people are asking for sparkly. I think glitter and sequins are probably going to be pretty big. I think maybe bold statements, like people wearing messages," she said. "Oversized shirts might be happening, I think skinny pants and oversized shirts. But I think the girls are going to try to go pretty, which, I guess, is good. If it were me and those were the people that I work with, I would encourage people to use their VMA opportunity to really celebrate young designers globally who could really benefit financially from having that type of global attention. And even better, if they could wear something that costs under $300 that the kids watching the VMAs could actually buy."

Miley Cyrus' VMA look

Kelly's take: "I don't think anybody should give Miley fashion advice. She gets more beautiful everyday, and I'm telling you, even if she's wearing like an oversized acid-wash tie-dye smiley face shirt, it's gonna look good."

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez's VMA looks

Kelly's take: "[Taylor is] the queen of the high-waisted everything. I think Taylor Swift is stunning and I think that she is very beautiful and successful and outspoken and strong young woman, and I think that's awesome. I don't think she's the queen of the carpet, though. I think she plays it pretty safe. She's very Audrey Hepburn, very classic, which I don't think is a bad idea for her brand. She's not Rihanna...Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift, that's not really what they're selling. They're selling beauty and glamour. They're almost like old Hollywood-ish."

Justin Bieber's VMA look

Kelly's take: "I think Justin Bieber's gonna look cute, I don't know why. I'm just feeling him."
