Alex McCord Fashion Show

Better to Fail Spectacularly

NYC Wife Alex McCord gives her critique of this week's Fashion Show looks.

Jun 3, 2009

Oh yeah, it’s 7:30am on Sunday – Mama is up and mainlining espresso while the boys fight over who gets the red or the black cushions to make their forts. How appropriate to catch up on Fashion Show blogging!! As a confessed show addict, I loved this mini challenge. When we redid our house we built two new shoe compartments in the closets and still don’t have enough room – when Footwear News came to shoot it they laughed at us madly trying to display every single pair.

I wish that the shoe designer would have made it clearer that she’d be judging the teams based on which collection would fit best into Olsenhaus, but maybe I was just slow on the uptake. While Johnny’s pair was sleek and closely aligned with what we saw of the brand, I preferred Team Daniella’s work. Even though there seemed once again to be an issue with Andrew co-opting ideas, I actually liked Andrew’s fringe better than Reco’s. At any rate it was interesting to see everyone pushed out of their comfort zone and it was a good setup for the elimination challenge.

It was great to see the designers relieved of the team pressure; it was obvious they hated it. I can see why the show was set up that way – ease people into the process, float some of the weaker competitors because one can be a weak competitor while still being a good designer, force people to deal with each other because that’s part of heading a staff…it was time to let everyone sink or swim on their own. Off to Bergdorf’s to choose shoes!

Dear Alex, Thank you very much for being a great supporter!!! You totally got my idea of Chanel-esque Parisian cocktail party event and where I was going with it :) Yes, my concepts require usually more than just 14 hours, I guess I'm a big risk taker with big ideas :) I absolutely loved your outfit that you chose form Maggie Norris on one of the episodes of Real Housewives of NYC. You poses an absolute, taste, style and grace!!! Maggie and I showed together our fashion shows back in 2003, she is one of the greatest American couturier of our time.

Love, Lidia

P.S. also, I would like to thank you that you adored my rain coat idea, it made me smile when I read your blog.

Alex,

I miss you now that the NJ housewives are on. I also agree with you on the fact that Merlin should have probably gone home. However, he adds sass to the show. I was super surprised that Angel could pull it off but she did so well with those american flag shoes! Keep up the good bloggin'!

I just read the NY Daily News article...NICE!! The girls from NY are nothing but stuck up, social climbers who care more about image than anything else!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Jersey girls...they have more class than any of you!

alex

i agree with you regarding lidia's dress. Given more time it would have been so spectacular. I'm so enjoying your insight into the fashion world and love that you love the Fashion Show as much as I do. Again I value your insights into New York's unique take on the world. You are a great translator and look forward to reading your next blog entry.

Love your blog. You really DO love fashion! Great comments.

Hi there Alex, I hope your summer has started out well. I totally agree with your views on the Fashion Week, and with Lidia that you have absolutely the best taste, style and grace. More people have stated that since the reunion show. You have really come into " your own." Both you and Simon. Some of the viewer's said the two of you were nothing but social climbers and " feeders, " but I have always disagreed on that. Well, those same viewers have changed their tune, as they have said themselves. They saw the biggest " grown-up " change in you two, this past season, and hundreds have fallen in love with America's favorite couple that Ramona loves to hate and is jealous over. LOL Alex I absolutely loved that corset style " Feed" top Simon purchased for you. It was a perfect fit and you wore it beautifully. Hugs and kisses to the cute little " chums ", and cannot wait for the book. AND, the new season. Besides, Jill and Bobby ( with Brad and Ally and Gloria ), You and Simon just make my day. Love you guys. Your Number # 1 Fan, Vicki

I saw you and Simon at the hospital on Saturday...I hope Francois is doing okay!! All the best!
