Well Andrew went home today and although I don’t believe he was a strong enough designer to be here, he was a nice person and I wish him well. My expectation was that Lidia would go home because her dress was much uglier and despite the fact that her model was nearly incompetent, it couldn’t really have been saved by anyone. The excuses are what get to me. It comes off as childish and doesn’t seem to get a good reaction. On the other hand, Lidia’s work has been getting good reviews lately from the judges so it seems like they want to keep her around for a little longer. Rico finally won a challenge and I think it was about time for him. He is really amazing as a sewer and can execute anything he dreams up. So it will be interesting to see where he takes that skill as far as design in this competition. As far as me I am feeling really average at the moment. I really need to sit back and think about what it is that I really do well and rock that out from here on out. I took a risk with the design I did for this challenge and although I don’t think it failed, I don’t think it succeeded the way other things I have done have. I really came into this competition without any expectations and really no strategy with the exception of not embarrassing myself. Now that I am here I definitely think I have the potential to make it fairly far. I am just trying to stay humble, low to the ground, out of the drama and try to learn as much as I can while I’m here.
It was completely ironic that this whole episode revolved around shoes considering I worked for a shoe company for three years. I don’t know what else to say about that except that I’m sure that they are as relieved that I didn’t win that challenge as I am not to be working there anymore. Oh well, on to the next.
It's also nice that the steriotype of the catty, backstabbing woman amongst the female competetors on this show is not apparent either. I hope as time goes on this holds true. We need a few good women to even out the numbers in fashion design. Men may know what looks good on a woman, but a woman knows what she wants to wear. And, if she doesn't, having more talented female designers will elevate a balance that's been lacking in fashions choices of late.
Anna, I think Lidia go to stay because at least she had an interesting concept and had it been executed properly (both both the designer & the model) it would have been interesting and worked. Andrew's design has static, boring, certainly safe. In judging a creative competition I would always reward a creative concept unrealized vs. a tired concept. As Johnny mentioned, it's not America's Next Top Seamstress, though execution can be used to decide. That said, I loved your Week 3 ($40/less) challenge design and wish that it had won so I could buy it!
Anna, don't get discouraged! You're one of the most talented designers AND you can actually construct the pieces you dream up! I love that your creations are actually wearable and body-conscious. I hope you're one of the finalists!!
Yeah, I agree to that. Anna and Daniella think that they're the innovator of all designs. They all have been done before, just so you know. Pleats is your fresh idea? When were you born, yesterday? Quite frankly, I thought you were in the bottom 2 coz the construction of your design was so poor and amateurish! The judges and audience overlooked yours but if they took a second look, yours is way bland and boring than Andrew's.
Meow! I know I didn't! And Andrew's piece looked nothing like mine in the end so any momentary thoughts I might have had about that I complete admonish now. Remember you are watching a TV show where hours upon hours of footage and soundbites are edited into 45 minutes of TV time. I wish Andrew the best, but I think I said that already.
Anna, I think you are a good designer but watching the show last night I started to dislike you and Danielle for your cattiness. I thought you were both being mean to Andrew and the way you laughed at the comments made about Lidia's dress seemed mean spirited as well. I am interested to see your designs though, I loved the pleated skirt.
OH EM GEE!!! that coat you made should have won. it was so gorgeous and i want it SO BAD! i would have bought it if they would have put it up for sale. i loved the silhouette of it and the way it looked so comfy and was functional but not completely insane. lol places to store gloves and a scarf and stuff are the only thing i would want a coat to do anyway. :) i love you!

I am glad to see a lot of strong, talented female designers on this show. There is good male talent on this show, but it's nice to ssee it's not all male domination. You go girls!
