This episode of The Fashion Show was about cliques in high school. I love this challenge!
In the mini challenge, the designers did horrendous graphic tees for the student presidential election, granted they only had an hour. I think it was clear who the winner was in this challenge - Daniella, who did a clean, fun, detailed graphic of a tree. The rest were sloppy and poorly designed.
For the elimination challenge, they all kept the same clique as their inspiration for their garment.
Daniella’s, once again, was the best. Although her point of view of a tree hugger is being dirty and sloppy, she still pulled off the most clean and interesting garment. It captured 'tree hugger' by the earth tones, cool hoodie and earthy details.
James-Paul did the most adorable preppy, corky Ralph Lauren-esque sweater and pant. I loved the plaid patch in the back of the pant and detail on the sweater. I would wear that in a heartbeat.
I thought the rest weren't very impressive.
Reco had drama, which I didn’t see. He did a pretty white dress that was way too short for my taste and the proportions of the overall look were unflattering. That vest was too tight and little. It looked almost silly. However, I do think he will make it to the end with Daniella.
Hey kenley! Thanks so much for the kind words and recognizing my work. I definately don't really mean the things I said about environmentalists. I'm a huge supporter of going green and I'm glad you liked my design!
OMG! Thank you so much for "weighing in"! It really feels like they're setting Reco up to be the winner - whether he deserves it on merit or not. Daniella is portrayed as "mean" and Merlin the vindictive and mean little elf, described her as a "bit*#" and constantly gloats and laughs at her and the others. In Merlin's blog he tries to come off as sooo Christian and grateful but his gloating and calling names showes his true colors. If Merlin would have been able to put someone in the bottom last episode like Daniella did, I'm sure he wouldn't have used his brain like she did and put the person who deserved to be in the bottom there, he would have just been the mean little elf and put Daniella in the bottom! I just can't get over all Merlin's gloating and Reco's pompous strutting and loud put downs of the others. I wrote Reco's poor sportsman-like behavior down to just his confidence and lack of upbringing - until I heard he is writing a book! No wonder he needs the drama! Whether there is any or not he has to make some so he can write about it.
Miss your styles - hope your career is on track!
You only like your own designs....why do they have you commenting on other peoples? did you think Angel should have done high-waisted jeans for her hip-hop girl????
I Agree with everything you wrote!!!!! Every week I'm waiting on something fabulous from this show, and it just comes up short, but I love fashion and I really love fashion reality shows, so I will continue to watch!!!! This certainly isn't Project Runway!!!!, but I'm sure the the casting next season will bring on better designers
Soooo dead on. I can't believe they just shuffled Daniella off the stage after she produced such a beautiful garment. Merlin's was just so...Busy. Horrible looking, and the colors did clash. It was a lot of look. My favorites were definitely James-Paul and Daniella, with Johnny-bad-attitude going home over Angel, who despite her cheesy outfit seemed like a really nice and talented girl. The judges seriously need to do a better job with the judging.
Oh and Kelly - offensive?!? It may have been a little cheesy and an ignorant design, but that comment was kinda out of line I think.
I agree with you on most of the designs except what you said about merlin's and haven's. i'm a skater and i would totally wear what haven made, not with the boots since obviously it wouldn't work with my skaterboard, but it was probably my favorite design throughout the competition. and merlin's did totally capture the mean girl look, i could totally see lohan in that outfit...
Hello Kenley, I am glad you will be blogging for The Fashion Show. It is a great show and needs more support of the viewers to get the word around. Unfortunately, the judges do not chose the top designs of the runaway but the "guests and regular people" who attended the runaway. And they were not that fashion forward enough. I agreed with you the James - Paul preppy look was my favorite, 2nd Daniella and 3rd Lidia. From the top picks, Merlin's design was more high fashion than Haven's, so that was a good decision from the judges. Amparo
I totally agree with your opinion about the cliche goth outfit. I mean, come on. If you are going to to goth, GO GOTH! Give it a little drama (take it from Reco because he didn't use any). Goth's have a flair about them that is just awesome and outgoing. They have a taste for the extravagent and stand-out. And totally loves the tree hugger, I thought that should have won, not the mean girl. She still looked like she was in highschool and got dressed in the dark without her glasses on. Those pinks did not match. Loved the pieces as seperates but the seperates were way too ready to wear. I thought Isaac said this was the fashion show not the sales man show (episode 4). By the way Kenley, loved you in Project Runway! Despite those haters!
Miss Kenley, it was not that long ago that you were on Project Runway. And many people didn't like you or your designs. Although I thought your taste was strange, I thought you had talent, but your attitude and know-it-all mentality was horrible. And I think it cost you the competition. Now the moral of this story is, "Work on yourself before you throw stones at others" Try to have some class in the way you critique.
I couldn't agree more, Kenley... I think The Fashion Show judges keep voting off the wrong designers! First it was Andrew, I feel like Andrew still had more to offer! And now, Angel, who I think is extremely talented!
I thought it was pretty unfair to Angel. I wouldn't have any idea what a "b-girl" would wear either. I was amazed the judges took it as a personal affront to "hip hop" as a culture that she didn't know what b-girls wear. Angel probably should have just designed something cool and urban. Perhaps it was that her inspiration items looked a bit 80's and wack that she thought she was designing for that kind of "Parent's Just Don't Understand" kind of look. I really liked the preppy outfit too, and the skater pants were a really good idea. Full confession: I was a skater in high school who basically wore preppy clothes.
Kenley took the words right out of my mouth. I work with fashion designers on a daily basis- never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine that Merlin, would win this challenge. The only half way normal outfit that he made was the bicolored dress one what I think was the first epidode. (Very Alice and Olivia) Reco has talent; he is sharp and although somewhat flaming, he can put together a knockout design with little thought. However, his pieces aren't inovative enough. They lack that certain edge that sets a designer apart from the rest. If I had to pick a winner at this stage of the game (so to speak)- it would be Daniella by a landslide. So far, I would wear every piece that she made. Her color stories are for lack of a better word, awesome. God forgive me but Angel is retarded. How the fuc do you not know what to design for a hip hop chick? Do you not have a tv? Do you not live on the planet? You may not like the style (I sure as shit do not) but you should still know what it is at the very least! Dude, her B girl looked more like rainbow bright, or a raver walking back to her trailer park. Yikes. We'll see Reco and Daniella at the finish line. -Sam Jones, The Queen of Leather Creative Director for Libra Leather NYC www.libraleather.com
Kenley,
I loved you on Project Runway! You were the reason I kept watching every episode! I was very disappointed that you didn't win, and I think it had to do with the fact that you were defensive, acted overly confident and talked back to Tim Gunn. Hey, but that is your personality and it brought a whole new dimension to the show! Your designs were absolutely beautiful. I know the judges acknowledged that.... but... again, I think you had a personality conflict and pissed off the powers that be, and when all was said and done, it was your to your downfall.
You have to get rid of that Kelly Rowland if she is a host for next season, this show will not be on my schedual. I know I'm not the only one who feels she rings nothing to the show at all!!
I agree Kelly Roland has got to go!!!! "Let me educate you" indeed! My daughters and their friends were wtaching this show,9 grls ages 17-19, they did not know what a "b-grl" was either. Nor is the Fashion from that culture as they call it prevelant here in the State of Illinois. Maybe in Chicago it is but believe it or not NOT everywhere Miz roland was insulted well so were we when she acted the way she did! It will not matter to the ppl in charge but since they have made it clear that those of us in the mid-west are not meeeting their standards we will stop watching until they meet our standards.
I dont like The Fashion Show. I'm trying to force myself but I can't do it anymore. I MISS PROJECT RUNWAY!!
Ms. Kenley Collins: you hit it spot on - I agree with you! Daniella won the mini-challenge and I agree, her outfit in the main challenge was stunning! I loved the colors, the cape: I think that the judges and other designers were given a break as Daniella has won every week! She is young, talented and has a vision for classy fashion.
I agree completely.
Also, I had no idea what a B girl is either. It doesn't mean I need to be "educated". I doubt Kelly knows anything about the indie scene. Its just a matter of personal interests. Hip Hop is not one of mine, so I stay away from it, I don't watch MTV , believe it or not people don't get their music from TV anymore, its more from online, and I live in Back Bay Boston. Hip Hop is just not a part of my life, so why would I know anything about it, and why should I have to? I'm so tired of having to know about that culture, its forced don my throat in school, diversity, but no one ever has to learn about my culture. Let me educate you on the hipster/ indie scene.
@Daniella,
Kiddo, you had better watch your mouth a bit more or you are going to offend every part of the population who you think differs from you in any way. So far we have you hating on women with curves and environmentalists. Wow. Who's next? Going after short people? Feminists? "I have no idea how to design for them -- make munchkin pants/something butch/other ignorant statement?"
I know you are barely into your twenties, but try to act as old as you dress.
Kenley- I LOVED your work on Project Runway...are your designs available for purchase anywhere?...plus, I agree--Daniella is BY FAR the best designer I've seen on The Fashion Show. I'm routing for you Daniella!
Hi Kenley Loved your fashions last year. I do not like Kelly, her B Girl comment was extremely insulting. Sorry, all of us do not know what B Girls are. I am so sorry the other outfit didn't win, I wanted to buy that one.
The Fashion Show, IMO, was created just to "pacify" us until Project Runway finally gets back on track.
I tune in, not for the drama (there's already enough of that in everyday life), but to see the construction of the garments moreso than the designing. There is not much air time covering the sewing skills (which is probably the boring part for most people) and these are designers after all and not all are necessarily trained in construction, but that's where my interest lies as it has been my occupation for four decades.
As for personalities on these shows, which I'm sure are "encouraged" for the camera and ratings, I could do without them-just show me their skills.

Hey, Kenley! Glad you're commenting on the show. As a former PR contestant, what do you think of the runway show before an audience? Would you have preferred that?
