The First Day
Today was a marvelous day. My biggest surprise was when Izaac Mizrahi appeared. He’s incredible and I have always admired him. It feels very good to have him as a judge. I don’t know, but if you notice all other “designers” showed up with their best look that identifies them, and I busted out laughing: someone should tell them tsunami time is over.
My dress made with that cheap t-shirt wasn’t that bad. I came out in third place. I don’t accept it but I do think my dress looked more like a dress than any of the other dresses. It deserved the first place. That dress was very pretty and feminine; it deserved it, in comparison to the other dresses.
I imagine I am the talk of the town, people are jealous of what I wear, but what can I say I am an artist. And what? A little eccentric. Well, actually, a lot, God forgive me for that, but that’s me and specially for someone that comes from a place where style is not a big a deal – but please, someone tell these kids that having style doesn’t mean to copy from a magazine or wear something thinking that it’s the best.
Well, I’m having fun and with all these kids, the truth is that maybe they don’t have designer style but I do have to admit they do have talent.
The First Elimination
The one item that you must have in your closet is a jacket. Modern, simple and that goes with your personality. One that goes with everything.
I am very happy to have done a good job with my group. From the start I wasn’t too interested on my project. Maybe because I was safe, or because I didn’t understand the challenge. But oh well. I got it too late, when I had already screwed up and bought that horrible fabric.
In regards to Daniella, I can’t wait to see the time when she’s done and packs up her bags to go.
From the beginning she was a pain in the ass. A big mistake OR big disaster! All the time she was sabotaging my team just to call attention. But I, personally, don’t think she has talent. I think Lidia pretends to be weak in order to be unnoticed, but in reality she’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. She applies little sheep technique but in reality she is using the wrong strategy and it won’t surprise me if she is the next one to hang her last garment.
In regards to the judges. Honestly I agree with the decision they made and how Kelly handled the situation. In her position, I would’ve done the same. I think I was immature and I got caught up in the moment with emotions, and after everything happened, I felt really bad.
I am so ready for you to go home. By no means am I a feminist but to speak like you did about males dominating is insulting... The only humorist part was that you said it in 3 1/2 inch white high heels.
By claiming your way was the best you ruined a well fitting jacket (at least better fitting one then you ended up with) and earned my vote to be kicked off next!
Kudos on your bolero, it was totally cool, and to heck with Daniella, she was trying to sink you. She's just behind the times and cannot see that you had the better vision. I'm over forty, so I totally agree that her bolero was old, it something I would have worn, what, bakc in 1984, when I was young and cool! Not really, I still would have prefered yours.
OMG, wow, I'm speechless. You are one of those people that everybody does not like to work with. I can tell its going to be tough for all the other contestants who have to work with you. (Merlin, that is). Appropriately named.
City girl said, "By no means am I a feminist but...." Why are you not a feminist? You're on your high horse about a comment Merlin made that was just meant to be b****y? Please. Get over yourself! And how come no one is all up in arms about Daniella's response?
BTW, I am female and a feminist.
FIRST you dismiss the person who came up with the must have look in the first place by telling her that it's "male dominated," and then you lie about what you say. What you really meant to say is that fashion is dominated by women hating flamers, which explains why that circus costume was chosen as one of the two final looks.
Merlin- you did a superb job as head designer!! You must keep control over your team and make decisions as you see fit and that is what you did. That is why your team came out on top. (good call cutting the jacket shorter)
Daniella is a hater and was mos def trying to take over the process. Good job keeping her in check. I cant wait to see her go too.
John-Paul's design was great but I thought you shouldve won because your design has more "sellability'.
I adore your RED Collection. Wish I could afford it!
Marlin, you need to listen to other people's ideas before you decide on yours, you are very talented and that can get you far in the fashion industry,if you just take out time for suggestions. I liked your outfits they were cool and in style. You have some good ideas if only you were more easy to work with , think about it.....
Merlin, You are cute and adorable and have great taste in fashion. You are bit over the top, yes, but who cares? Stay a bit humble and rock it. As for Daniella, she's a real bitch (to put it nicely), her style sucks, and she looks like an old maid. Keep up the awesome fashion!
You are obnoxious, but you sure can deliver! You are a master sewer and imaginative. That skirt had a high level of difficulty to accomplish. Especially compared with Haven who admittedly can't even sew!
Merlin! Loved your dress in the first fashion show, wish it would have won so I could buy it!!! Is there any other way I could get that dress and what would it cost? Thanks!
I don't know where I have seen you before, but I think that you [ Merlin ] & Recco ] were on some other show before. The 2 of you seem very familiar to me !! Your jacket was really nice though, but please don't wear anymore big feathers, you're poking peoples eyes-out !!
I am your new fan. Loved the way you handle Daniella.... I am glad all your Latino flavor came out. Loved your design. I really thought you should have won the challenge.
Merlin! I have found my favorite in the fashion show YOU. I don't blame you for changing up that balero jacket it's a competition and you can't compromise your vision because of some bratty little girl. I will definetely keep up with your weekly blogs. YOU ARE FABULOUS LOCA!
I love your flair and your striking designs. Daniella's concept for an old-fashioned (read: dated) look for the bolero might have kept your team from first place, had you not reasserted your role as team leader and rescued the project. Your "male domination" comment was uncalled-for, but I'm more bothered by Daniella's apparent dark, brooding spite toward fellow competitors (not just you). When it comes to fashion, I much prefer your inventiveness over Daniella's same-old-same-old safeness. No one ever moved fashion forward by being "safe."
Merlin, I know your attitude will rub a lot of people the wrong way, but the fact of the matter is, this is a fashion competition, not a personality competition. Even then, I find yours to be quite entertaining. But in regards to your design, I thought it was awesome! I wished that one would have won because I would love to own that entire look!
Omg, I am loving City Girls comment! I totally took you to be more of a feminist with the 3 1/2 inch heels. I did however like your look you know the "5 & Up" look. lmao
Merlin, you will keep me watching this season!! Love the way you rescused your design and made it more stylish and fresh!
Don't knock women and tell them that it is a "male dominated" world when you are obviously jealous that you weren't born a woman... It may be a male dominated world... no thanks to the billions of men who stray to the feminine side and let the rest of the men dominate women and the flaming, female dressing, gay men!!
Mamamia55 -- if you ever watch the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency, Merlin was on that show once or twice. He was having a show and recruite the JDMA and used some of her models for the runway show. That might be why he looks familiar to you.
ok let me tell you. a mi me encanta verte! you are one of my favorite designers on the show!! eres maravijuso!!
You did terrific Merlin. You should be very proud of yourself. Don't wait so long next time before taking charge as a group leader. Make sure you get the color right the first time and get control of your team early. Some people are offended by your methods (you waited too long before taking control of the group), but the deal is about talent and the statement. You showed both and had two of the top designs within your group. Well done!! I also saw your design work on Angela - excellent!! You’re a winner!!!
Personally, I agree with City Girl. I mean, i see design potential, but to be a great designer with true talent, you should also be a good person who treats others kindly. And i don't see that. i would not be upset to see Merlin go home. Merlin's attitude would rub me the wrong way if I was in that design room. I don't know why, but just the way he acts and talks and treats others that i find is irritating and insulting. i know this is a competition, but there is no need for negative comments or drama to be started. You don't need divas in the workplace, it just creates more problems. Why would you even want that drama? You got better things to focus on. Honestly, Merlin's blog statement seems a little cocky. Maybe you should be asking for God to make you more humble, because that gets you farther than believing your ideas and designs are better than everyone else's.
Dear Marlin, I wonder how you sleep after pouring that much dirt on the designers who were competing with you.
Do you know what a true competition is? The true competition is to pursue excellence in what you are doing.
Prove your qualities with your work!! Not with pouring dirt on others who compete with you!! Behave yourself professionally!
I'm so excited to see you in the show!! I think you are amazing and have such great talent!! love it! I am so proud to see some Honduran flavor there! keep up the good work, we are watching :)!! and about those comments.. people shouldn't take them seriously.. I understand your passion hermano!
Tu paisana tambien de Tegus :), Melissa
Sew Sew-I not sure where you got I was on a high horse. I never defended Daniella. All I said was his comment was rude and uncalled for. I not a fan of Daniella or her style but Merlin has clearly shown little respect for the people he works with.
And what does it matter if I am a feminist or not to you. I just was commenting that I was not a over sensitive girl about women rights and take every comment as a hit at women success. I def believe in equality but I'm not out preaching about how men are the down fall to women. So this high horse you say I am on is only me thinking people deserve respect, even when you differ on ideas. Such as they did.
And what was Daniella's response? Don't you think it was more of a reaction to his mean degrading comment?
