Cynthia Nixon's Bagel Order Horrified New Yorkers and Lit Up Twitter: "Lox Her Up"

The former Sex and the City star and current New York governor candidate triggered a scandal.

One thing among many that New Yorkers take very seriously is their bagels. And that's why an order placed by Cynthia Nixon — alum of famously New York City-centric show Sex and the City, and candidate for governor of New York state — proved especially scandalous.

Indeed, Nixon recently ordered lox atop a (wait for it!) cinnamon bagel, and social media exploded in fury over the very wrong-ness of it all.

The news was broke this past weekend, when Gothamist happened to catch the widely offensive order on camera while Nixon was at the legendary Zabar’s, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

It seems even Nixon was kind of unsure about her choice, considering various bagel options on the video before deciding on the cinnamon raisin, of all things.

“Now, I have tomato and I have onion and I have capers,” the man behind the counter says, trying to absorb the rest of her order while registering as little disapproval as possible.

“That’s what I want,” Nixon says, much like we imagine Miranda might have in another, more innocent decade.

“A full load?” he asks.

She concurs: "A full load. And cream cheese.”

While we’re not against cinnamon raisin bagels in theory, it seems an odd choice to eat with smoked fish. But even when accosted by reporters at an appearance later in the day, she defended her choice. “That’s my go-to brunch, breakfast, whether I’m out or I’m home,” she said. “It’s pretty delicious. And I say, don’t yuck my yum. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.”

George Conway, conservative lawyer and husband of Kellaynne, offered the zinger: "Lox her up?"
