Chef Ina Garten, as you might expect, is not one for fast food. Unlike Anthony Bourdain — who once admitted he has "real respect" for Ina despite occasionally mocking her — whose guilty pleasure is Popeyes fried chicken, Ina stays away from low-quality, mass-market options and fries as a rule. But like all rules, this one. too, is meant to be broken.
So when exactly does Ina cave and eat fast food? Well, it's when she's on the West Coast — and, you guessed it — it's for cult-favorite chain In-N-Out burger.
"I have to say, I don't eat fast food at all, with one exception," she told TODAY.com. "When we're in California doing book tours, we always have to go to In-N-Out burger. It's so good and I know it was Julia Child's favorite too, so it's OK."
And according to TODAY, Julia is Ina's greatest inspiration — and not just when it comes to In-N-Out: "I would have to say that Julia Child's my biggest culinary inspiration because she really taught me how to cook through her cookbook. I learned how to make hollandaise sauce the right way, and then she showed me how to make it the quick way without losing any of the quality."
And there you have it, budding chefs! Make like Julia, slay the hollandaise game... and hit In-N-Out for some animal-style fries.
