What Is the Keto Diet? Experts Weigh In... and Celebs Sound Off

Jersey Shore's Vinny Guadagnino is kicking off the new year in the... meatiest way. The so-called "Keto Guido," who recently shed 50 pounds following the controversial ketogenic diet, uses his Instagram account to show off what he's eating these days. And if you don't mind a major spoiler, we'll give you this hint: It's a lot of meat.

Click through Guadagnino's feed, and you'll find photos of juicy steaks, crispy bacon, and more things the svelte reality star keeps on hand— along with captions providing diet tips. For example, to caption one photo of a loaded plate of still-bleeding meat, he wrote: "No tiny piece of grilled chicken, steamed broccoli, with a tablespoon of brown rice low fat/ low calorie meal for me. I prefer eating like humans were evolved to eat with a pile of delicious fatty meat and veggies that my body will convert into energy."

Meat's not the only thing in Guadagnino's kitchen of course — though he does have a freezer full of it. He recently let Women's Health peek inside his fridge, and revealed its contents: "I try to have organic vegetables," he said. "I'm not going to lie; I'm kind of lazy, so I look for the organic frozen ones. You don't have to worry about some weird guy sneezing on it in the grocery store." Fair point!

He also keeps butter on standby. "Keto people eat butter," he said. Adding that he's not a fan of margarine, Guadagnino continued: "I’d rather cook from a natural product, I feel like my body knows what to do with it."

As a proud Italian, it must have been hard for the reality star to swear of pasta for the time being. But, he still does eat what he refers to as "some Italian staples," including olives and garlic. And, don't forget the pickles! "I can't tell you the health benefits of pickles," he declared. "I like them."

Other items you'll find in the Keto Guido fridge include arugula, truffled mousse, coconut milk, eggs ("eggs are life"), and bacon. But, allow Guadagnino to bust one Keto myth. "Everyone thinks Keto people eat bacon all day,” he says. “Three little pieces with my eggs, I’m good."
