The Millionaires

Dylan talks about succumbing to peer pressure, making a move on Arielle, and more!

Apr 6, 20100

When approached about going on Millionaire Matchmaker, I did what I always do when faced with a difficult decision. I assessed the situation and ran a cost/benefit analysis.

Pros: A unique experience. Introduce my company (Box.net) to a new audience. Showcase boyish charm and rugged good looks. Potentially I’ll sharpen my dating skills.

Cons: Experience couldn’t be more out of my comfort zone. Expose a multitude of flaws to a new audience. I’m terrified of Patti. Potentially I’ll be disowned by my family.

Ultimately I threw out my analysis and succumbed to peer pressure. I began to doubt this decision as my LA trip approached, but once I arrived everything moved so quickly that I didn’t have time to worry. The show was surprisingly real – I wasn’t given advice, lines, or makeup – I just showed up and the cameras started rolling. Within thirty minutes Patti had labeled me a geek and instructed me to “dance sexy” with a stranger in moose-themed pajama pants. (To be fair, the wardrobe selection was my own doing). The lesson was awkward, but if the goal was to force me to loosen up and not worry about looking cool, it totally worked.

Then came the mixer. I secretly hoped that the other millionaire would be seventy and creepy so that I’d look good by comparison, but Hillel was a far better partner in crime – it was impossible not to have fun around him. Initially, the conversations felt forced and repetitive, but Patti’s team came to the rescue – they kept things moving and I didn’t even notice Arielle until they pushed her in front of me.

Whatever...we're all geeks right? Anyway...loved the lawnmower. I used to do the 'making a hoagie' and the 'grocery shopping' dances (I'm sure you could imagine exactly how those went). Actually, I still do them on occassion. The moose pants on the other hand...those should be confined to your house. No one wants to see those unless it's Christmas morning or you're in Tahoe. I did get a good laugh out of them though. Cheers!

Wow, Dylan. First of all, can I just say that I found you the most attractive out of all of the Millionaire's I'd ever encountered on the show. You are the quintessential cutie/"geeky" guy, and I thought it was wonderful. Your moves are above reproach as well! :P You've got better moves than me, and I am a 24 year old girl, so - aren't I supposed to be all Beyonce? Alas, we can not all be amazing dancers. I would love to hang out with you some time ;) Let me know if your ever near Philadelphia!

You are completely adorable, and yes, I'm pretty sure we should be dating. There are few people that have the magical mix of endearing unassuming humor, but you rock it my friend. I think anyone who watched the show was fortunate to have had a refresher course in the art of lawn mower dancing. People forget that there is indeed lawn ALL around you, so the possibilities are really boundless. Take care moose pants millionaire. But seriously, we should be dating.

Dylan, I was so excited to see a guy like you on the show! I am a huge nerd and it's so hard to find a fun guy with intelligent interests. Patti's great at what she does, but I wish she had embraced your geeky side. Oh, and you still dance better than I do.

I would pick a guy like you, Dlyan, hands over most guys out there. You're adorable, unaffected, brilliant, and my concept of what a fun, honest, desirable man should be. Don't ever settle; you dererve the best!

So Dylan, own your geekiness or whatever you choose to call (or not call) your fabulous combination of brilliance, drive, dedication, honesty, simplicity and joy. There are women out there who LIVE FOR and LOVE 'geeks' - and totally respect geeks - as geeks should be loved and respected. For geek-lovers, the offer of a socially well-adjusted and outgoing geek who's also cute is a huge thing. Don't worry about trying to be things that other men are. They need to be those things to accommodate for the things they're lacking, sometimes. I'd prefer a rocket science who explains all sorts of cool things to me then a guy who can dance the two or ten times a year that we go out dancing. Girlfriends are for dancing. Guys are for much better things.

Hahah! I thought both you and Hilel were great. I got some serious chuckles during your very brave dance practices and you were a true trooper. I'm going to reserve judgment however on those moose-patterned pants (What up, Dawg?). I thought you and Arielle made such as cute pair too, and that lawn-mower move was classic. Have you thought about trying out for So You Think you can Dance? Heheeh. Hope to bump into you around SF, Dylan, and i'll be sure to throw out a lawn mower in your honor. BTW, your 5 year planning was quite admirable. Nice job really on the show, i loved both couples! They were great. Best, Carmen

You were the cutest! I'd totally date you and a big part of that is you being a geek so don't worry about trying to hide that at all. And I've been using Box for a long time and it's awesome.

You and Ariel were adorable and I LOVED your lawnmower! It was nice to see a genuinely kind person for once. Don't let Patti change you!

I thought your comments toward the British girl were completely rude and uncalled for. I did think she looked like her picture and was quite cute! Some of the other ladies that you let into the millionaire's club aren't that great - sorry Patti.

Dear Powers-that-be (including, but not limited to, the Geek Gods and Bravo personnel who might be reading this message): I'm obviously no Patti Stanger (I'm a high school English teacher in south Georgia), but I'm convinced that my twin sister, Allison, would be a perfect match for Dylan. Take Tinkerbell, make her a 25 year-old brunette, give her a graphic design degree with a tendency to name inanimate objects (ex: Palmer, her phone) and you've got my twin. She's thoughtful, nerdy, and completely appreciative of moose-printed lounge pants. (Ok, so the chance that someone will even read this is unlikely, but what kind of sister would I be if I didn't at least put it out there?) In seriousness, it's refreshing to see someone like Dylan -a smart, good guy- on Millionaire Matchmaker. I wish him all the best in the future!

I thought you were adorable, and loved that you tried to do the dances and all. It was neat how you incorporated your own moves into it, showing a willingness to change, and try something new. Great stuff!!

You mentioned that you were approached...I thought that people like yourself, contact Miss Stanger for her services.

In any case, though, it's a win-win, because both Miss Stanger and the millionaires get air time, which is good publicity for both businesses.

I think you're wonderful, a real, caring kind of person, who is confident with himself, and my wish for you is that you find that special someone.

Dylan, you are a cutie!! Be picky, because you deserve a FABBO significant other. I really enjoyed watching this episode, and you were a big part of why -- cute, smart, and real.

You are BEYOND adorable; I am rooting for you to find the love of your life! I would have been all about you in college (I'm all about the nerds; TALK NERDY TO ME!). I suspect you are not going to have any trouble meeting someone spectacular. The lawn mower alone should be a slam dunk:)

Dylan,

I think you are adorable, you remind me of my son. It looks as though the experience was very beneficial to you. I believe you will meet someone who will make you happy. Be true to yourself. You are quite a catch.
