Yes, you do indeed sound like the self absorbed gigolo that Patti Stanger exposed you as. Now, pardon me as I go eat a steak.
In my episode, I made a conscious choice to emphasize my strong alliance with the environment - even chastising my date David for initially choosing red meat for his lunch. The production of red meat, I explained, is far more damaging to the environment compared to white meat. With my new eco-friendly clothing company, named 4-rth, ("for earth") my primary focus is to make the clothing industry accountable for its fabric choices and construction processes. The more successful www.4-rth.com becomes, the more influence it will yield. 4-rth only uses 100% organic cotton from the USA, and the garments are locally produced here in Los Angeles. Think about it, with our everyday "purchasing" choices, we have an impact on the economy and the processes involved in producing the products we buy. Therefore, without naming brands, I urge you to strongly consider NOT purchasing clothes that are heavily over-processed with graphics, dyes, metallics, and glued items, etc. The clothing industry is already the second most polluting on the planet, as is! The people who decide to buy heavily over-processed clothing make it much worse. So please help me in spreading the word!
Throughout my involvement with Patti, I really tried to illuminate my passion for environmental awareness. I drive a hybrid vehicle and I'm serious about hyper-miling (soft starts and slower speeds), consuming less energy, reducing consumption of products I do NOT need, recycling those I use, reusing those that can be (canvas bags), and constantly coaching my friends about their own habits and the resulting impact. In addition to becoming a member of the Natural Resources Defense Council (www.NRDC.org), I will eventually have my estate left to this organization so that they can continue the legendary work they are immersed in – nothing other than saving the planet from profit-driven corporations and governments that worship at the altar of economic growth without regard to environmental consequence. Now, do I sound like the self-absorbed gigolo that Patti Stanger made me out to be on my episode? LOL.
Yes, you do indeed sound like the self absorbed gigolo that Patti Stanger exposed you as. Now, pardon me as I go eat a steak.
wow Doug was the biggest a -hole, David is too good for him, even reading Doug's explanation it appears he is a he self absorbed and personality disordered
I watched this episode and to be honest I found David quite attractive. When he said "hate people" I don't think he meant he actually hated people. I could say I hate people yet I love working with people, just get exhausted working 50+ hours a week in a salon with people. People drain you mentally when you are in an industry that you provide services to them. I think he just needs to realize as do I that you can't find love in physical compatibility yet mental compatibility. He needs someone who enjoys quiet time and easy going fun outside of reality.
Patti was right when she said when hes not talking about how Eco-friendly he and his company is, he has nothing to say. this proves it.
wow whenever i think of him i feel better about myself
btw the twilight hair guy was cute :P i would date him
I'm so glad "eco-expert" came forward with some real facts. So informative and insightful; especially calling to attention your complete lack of interest in David's cultural heritage as something that might actually be sustainable and even a little interesting.
And to justify my moniker...I've worked in reality TV for 10 years and I can assure you that no TV show can make you look like a jerk unless you are a jerk.
It settles it, that Doug can not be the real lifestyle environmentalist that he says he is if he doesn't know that all meat is bad for the environment or that chicken is actually worse for the environment if you had to choose because 90% of meat people eat is chicken. Chicken may be less bad for your health than what Doug calls "red animals". Just WOW!
Factory Farming is terrible both for the animals and for the environment, whether it is "red meat" or "white meat." If you want to really make an environmental and ethical difference, stop eating meat, period.
Dear Douglas.. I sincerely hope you take a the time to read ALL the replies to your blog. I am SHOCKED that anyone could be so totally unaware of "self". You have done no service to yourself, the environment and/or your company by your appearance on Millionaire. In fact, I would think that if you have a self-disclosed bone in your body you would hang your head in shame. This should be a life altering moment for you....a AH HA moment. And as far as your "friends" not having anything bad to say...I'd check that ! If you have a true friend, they should have TOLD you.."Get Real". I'm really embarassed for people to see a gay male in Reality TV behave in such an obnoxious and self-absorbed manner. You have done no service to yourself....and I know as you read other viewers comments this connot be easy. I'm sure you have got a lot more humanity than you revealed on the show. "I think it's time to find it and get in touch with it".
You know what they say..."You attract what you are" !Be thankful you haven't done that yet.
Good Luck ! Dr. John (Texas)
Here's the best part... http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/03/23/eat-meat-reduce-global-warming/
"The largely reported link between global warming and cattle farming... was also largely inaccurate"
The sad part of this person is the fact that all he can see is himself and not the fact that others are there. Please patti, DON'T ever let this person come back on your show. As a Gay man myself, he turns my stomach and the fact that as you said being his own model is stupid. And to down someone for what they like or don't like just because it doesn't match his likes completely, please hurry up with being able to clone humans so he can get marryed and be in love with himself. No self respecting Gay man would deal with this eco or ego idiot. Sorry but he just disrespects the fact that Gay men are so blind to being able to see beyond his little body.
I loved how you had no idea why beef is bad. "Everyone knows that." I couldn't believe you were chiding someone and you had no idea what you were talking about. You should do some research before you chide others.
I also thought that your misperception that all the men wanted you was telling and off base.
Wow! Doug, totally head over heels for yourself. Sadly thats who you'll be kissing goodnight until you realize that we're all flawed, including you! Enjoy yourself.
David, completely adorable and sweet. I was so offended for you. Really was painful to watch but you handled it with so much grace and class! Hats off to you and good luck, with your energy you'll go far.
As Eco-expert mentioned, your statements and opinions were completely unsupported. It is SAD to see individuals using the latest fad to better themselves or their business.
You would be wise to educate yourself instead of taking on the educator role. It is obvious you are NOT knowledgeable, and even worse, you refrain from taking the opportunity to have an open, honest, and informational discourse with David about your opinions, etc. Instead you gasp and belittle his preferences. It appears the things you are saying are rehearsed, to PROVE some kind of point.
I suggest you start reading articles instead of just headlines, start listening instead of talking, and get over yourself. The eco movement is NOT about how one can singlehandedly reverse the centuries of damage with an eco-friendly clothing line and a hybrid vehicle, it is about working together, educating each other, and moving our society toward a sustainable future.
If your heart is in the right place, start donating your profits to environmental organizations who are out in the field cleaning up trash, canvassing neighborhoods, and truly educating others. Or use it within your local community to start recycling programs where they don't exist. Start aiming for the supposed goal of your business, instead of just reaping the benefits.
Douglas is a self-laudatory narcissist. Good thing he's busy with his company because David would have never gone out on another date, and Douglas couldn't even recognize this from the show. I'd like to buy whatever mirror Douglas is using.
It is obvious that you are using the Millionaire Club as a platform for marketing your company.....lets call a spade a spade here....
As Eco-Expert said, you have no REAL clue about what you are talking about. You even said that you only learned about the environmental damage done by the clothing industry THREE years ago. You are a mere baby when it comes to knowledge of the many, many aspects of the environmental impact of the various industries in our world today.
Kudos to you for reducing your footprint and for starting an eco-friendly company. But if you get off your poorly informed soapbox and shut your mouth long enough you may actually learn something....including how to woo a prospective partner....
ok, i am new to this but I would assume a hot air balloon ride is not the best date if you are concerned about the environment...yes or no?
I don't like to be mean, but besides being self-obsessed, this guy came across as sort of dumb. He didn't answer many questions...or couldn't.
Wow poor David :( I will have a steak with him anyday! David really should of stuck to his guns and ordered what he wanted to order. I feel sorry for awesome guys like that who end up striking out because they cave-in to over-demanding, arrogant, controlling WeHo clones, like Douglas who gain 99% of their self-confidence from material things like six-packs and bourgeoisie trends (and he is still not cute). Douglas is just another face in the WeHo crowd and poor David is being way too nice. With an exotic heritage, beautiful smile, great looks, old-fashioned kindness and impeccable manners David is a 10 on my scale. Nice guys may finish last , but I really want David to meet someone! Hell, I would be honored to go on a date with him :-)
Sorry, but as your post shows, the editing wasn't that far off. Be honest, you didn't look for love with Patti. You used her show to promote your business. How unfair to the other guys looking for that connection to just be used that way. David was a great guy - a great catch.
As an environmentalist for decades and a vegetarian let me give you a bit of advice. Instead of "constantly coaching" your friends and family, why not lead by example. No one wants to be lecturered at the dinner table about red vs. white meat, just order something that you would consider "eco-friendly" and let your friends see how delicious the food can be. If they ask, tell them, but when you point out everyone's "mistakes" uninvited it gets old and tiring and preachy. I would never tell anyone what to eat, but I tell ya, the people around me eat alot less meat because I've made delicious alternatives. And please educate yourself on the meat industry in America because ordering white meat instead of red doesn't solve the problem. Volunteer at an animal shelter, grow a garden, offset your carbon footprint, and try not to let the people who have been doing it for alot longer look bad.
Has Doug ever been to a chicken farm/plant? That in and of itself causes just as much if not more pollution than a cattle farm. Hog farming is not very eco friendly either. Farming in general, all farming including crops, is rather un-eco-friendly. That organic cotton he uses for his clothing line, bet he didn't consider how it is helping to erode top soil and contributing to the destruction of the natural eco-system and possible extinction of some plant, animal or bug that is or will be highly beneficial. The line of work I do is in environmental regulation. I have had the pleasure of doing a lot of studying and research on various environmental issues. Farming by far is one of the most distructive activities humans engage in; from cattle farming to chicken farming, from raising crops to tree harvesting. It all is equally un-eco-friendly. David, order your steak honey...YUMMM! :-) Doug might need one as well, I think he's lacking B vitamins and its affecting his mood.
oh and david seems pretty awesome (especially for vapid LA). you dont deserve him and will be lonely for the rest of your self absorbed life. enjoy!
I have a PhD in environmental management from a top university and have worked for many years to help business organizations implement sustainable practices. Its great to hear of your company; I will certainly keep my eyes open for your products.
HOWEVER, I was shocked by your arrogance and lack of information about the very things you insist on being dogmatic about. Your explanation of 'red' vs. 'white' meat was not only totally meaningless but offensive. Neither meat is *inherently* more polluting than the other. It all depends on sourcing and methods used to grow and process the animals. Yes, factory farmed beef is terrible. But, pollution can be measured in many different terms. If you care about pesticide and antibiotic run-off and the spread of diseases, than chicken operations are just as terrible. You could have asked the server where they source their meat and chicken to see if either was sourced from a small, sustainable meat producer; and discussed this issue with David rather than condescended to him. As David tried to explain to you, in Guam, beef has a culture value and the foot they eat is not imported and not grown on enormous corporate factory farms -- much of what they eat is probably more sustainable than the non-meat products you buy daily to stock your fridge. He was trying to share something beautiful with you about his traditional culture, which is probably much more sustainable than ours, and you continued to condescend.
Also, the garment industry is not the 2nd most polluting industry. Its a great marketing bit, but you've forgotten about agriculture, petroleum & oil production, mining, the chemical industry, and others. Of course, reducing the impacts of clothing manufacturers is important, but you should get your facts straight if you're going to 'talk the talk and walk the walk' as you said. The fact is that environmental issues are complex and broad, so its better not to act like a know-it-all because none of us can be. We all have a lot to learn.
Best of luck to you in love and business.
Forget the eco with the ego... how do I find out how to ask out the lovely guy, David from Guam, that had to endure the evening with that guy?? Does anyone know his last name??? Email me if there is a way to contact him and Ill send him my profile!
David, Sorry it didn't work out. You seem to be a terrific guy...if you want to meet someone who will treat you the way you should be treated, just let me know. :)
omg i wanted reach through the screen the gay self absorbed guy just was so all over himself. i would just give him a mirror and send him on his way. and his date was sweet. just got me steamed lol
