Omar: Junk in the Trunk

Hear from millionaire Omar about his Matchmaker experience! "Why the heck I would ever take a first date on a junk removal job?"

So I am the first and most likely the last guy to ever make his date "haul junk" on a TV dating show. OK I admit it was a big mistake, although the look on my date's face when I pulled up in a College Hunks Hauling Junk dump truck was kind of priceless. Rachel was a sweet girl and a great sport even though I may have "punked" her a bit. Let me first start off by trying to rationalize (with myself and everyone else) why the heck I would ever take a first date on a junk removal job.

What was I thinking?! OK, first off, I hate first dates. They suck. The same questions, the overall awkwardness, the canned laughter. They are ALWAYS the same. It feels like a job interview not a date. Second, I didn't want the girl to be wowed by me flaunting money or expensive things I wanted to really get to know her and have her get to know me. Third, if you can have fun with someone doing something that sucks like running errands or hauling junk then you can have fun doing anything. OK any girl reading this is probably rolling their eyes and saying, "You could still do all of that and NOT haul junk on a first date." I agree and it certainly backfired BUT what made me stubborn about the whole thing was trying to prove Patti wrong. From the second I mentioned my date idea she hated me. The more she hated on my idea the more I wanted to prove her wrong. She said I should do a hot air balloon ride, which I thought was the cheesiest date idea ever. But it turned out when I asked Rachel what her ideal date would have been she said "hot air balloon." D'oh! Patti is a master of her craft and I should have listened to her rather than be the stubborn guy that I can tend to be.

The mixer was probably the most fun experience of the show. I am used to going out to a bar and being one of many guys with only a limited number of girls to talk to. The mixer was the complete opposite. Over 25 girls surrounded Nick and me. I have NEVER been in a situation like that -- it was like a merry-go-round of females vying for our attention. It actually was a little overwhelming trying to pick a girl out of that many. I picked Rachel because she seemed very sincere and down to earth and she also seemed like she wouldn't walk out on me if I were to pick her up in a trash truck for our first date. The date started out pretty funny. Rachel was standing outside looking HOT in this sexy blue dress and heels. I pull up in my company's bright orange and green trash truck and her jaw dropped. I knew the date was doomed from the start when she slipped getting into the truck. I made Rachel put on the College Hunks Hauling Junk shirt and hat and told her we were going to go on a junk job. I specifically had told our call center reps not to book anything hard for the Los Angeles franchise that day. But I think someone wanted to throw me under the bus because the job was TERRIBLE. It was nasty carpet and renovation debris and this huge TV. At that point I realized two things: First, I made a huge mistake picking junk removal as the mega date idea. Second, I actually had to complete this horrible job. Patti was right.

All in all it was a fun experience and I got to learn a lot about myself. I thought I had game and could win a girl in ANY situation, but I guess my game is weaker than I thought! At the end of the day we met lots of cool people, Nick got a haircut (finally) and I fulfilled my dream of valeting a dump truck at a 5 star restaurant. I can't hide the fact that I love what I do and I love College Hunks Hauling Junk (www.1800JunkUSA.com) If there are any girls out there that want to go on a junk hauling date with me and at least pretend to like it LET ME KNOW! I still want to prove Patti wrong and show her that there is a girl out there that loves junk as much as I do. Call us at 1-800 Junk-USA or find me on twitter: twitter.com/omarjunkman.

Making a Match: Larry Birkhead & Melyssa Ford

Find out what Patti really thought about sexy Melyssa and shy guy Larry's dates.

This week I got to meet one of the sweetest guys in the world, Larry Birkhead: the boy from Kentucky. There’s just one problem: he hasn’t dated in like a decade. This guy needs practice. I mean, he’s drop dead gorgeous and he can’t do anything. I can send him out into the world and the world of a mixer and a date, but he could botch it. Candace and I will give him some mock dating experience and I will pick his date for him. The first time he’ll meet her will be when they go out for the first time. No chance for him to get nervous, and more importantly, no time for the girl to look him up and see who he is. He can stand on his own two feet and just be himself, not Anna Nicole’s ex.

He can stand on his own two feet and just be himself, not Anna Nicole’s ex.

My other client this week is drop dead gorgeous: Melyssa Ford. She’s the star of Blood Sweat and Heels, she used to be in a bunch of music videos, and she was nicknamed the "Video Vixen". I know it’s hard to turn off the beauty and the booty, so I bring her to doctor Pat Allen. Doctor Pat and I have worked together for years. Doctor Pat told Melyssa that she should be leading with her brain. Melyssa can be sexy no matter what: but can she look for the guy who’s interested in what she has to say, not what she looks like?

So I’m doing something new: I get Candace and David to bring a bunch of good appropriate men and women to the mixer. I just want a handful of guys for Melyssa, and a handful of girls for Larry. I introduce the best ones to Melyssa for her to choose from, and I’ll pick the best girl to set up Larry with on a blind date. Melyssa picks Jay. Jay listened to the conversation, and remembered Melyssa liked bowling and cigars. And he took her on a perfect, fun, get-to-know-you date. Meanwhile, Larry met up with his date at Universal Studios. He had a private tour set up, and he and Michelle met for the first time. They had a blast. She knew who he was, but they got past that and they got to know each other. And he took her for dinner and even got a kiss at the end.

So in the end, I’m so happy that both Larry and Melyssa got to learn something. Larry got to know he can be himself and there’s no need to be shy, and she knows (Melyssa) that there are guys out there who can look past her booty and see the great girl underneath.
