Paris Is Burning...

Brad sheds some light on the Paris Fashion Week debate that was tearing Team Zoe apart!

September 28, 2009

The Paris situation was such an ordeal that went on for what seemed like weeks. It's all we talked about constantly, but nothing was ever really resolved. What was initially a very exciting, fun idea turned into a colossal nightmare that began eating at our relationships with one another. I stopped trusting Taylor and Rachel and felt like I couldn't talk to anyone because my every move was watched or being tested. The sense of paranoia that ensued as a result was almost unbearable.

To break it down: Jobs started coming up and Rachel said that one of us needed to stay behind. One of the jobs was with Jen Garner, who I did not really have a working relationship with. Taylor is her point person so I thought that it would be odd if I just showed up to do a fitting with her without a real introduction. Taylor and I had briefly discussed it and I thought we came to a decision that it would make sense that she stayed behind. Also, considering her track record of not really wanting to go to shows, meet designers, and go to parties, I didn't think she would want to go.

While Taylor and Rachel were on set together doing a job, I got a text from Rachel asking me if we had come to any decision and I said that Taylor was going to stay behind because of this job, but that I would do whatever Rachel wanted. I didn't hear anything back from her. It was also suggested that I would go for a few days and then come back to LA early, but I said that didn't make sense and that I would just rather stay in LA than travel to Paris only to turn around again. Ultimately I wanted Rachel to just tell us what was going on ...

When taylor told me about the intention of the text and that Rachel was hoping I would respond in a certain way, I was extremely upset. It was clear to me that I had been set-up, which angered me a lot, because I am not a confrontational person and although I would've been disappointed, I would've been fine with any decision. I wanted to get Rachel on the phone immediately to get it resolved, however she didn't have time to really talk. During the phone call, my work performance was questioned, which took me off guard. I had just completed an NY tour and a European tour with a client, plus awards season - I felt I was doing an amazing job! My comment about "my best not being good enough" was not said in haste. I really felt I was giving 110%. Needless to say I thought it was important that Rachel and I clear the air and that she knew how I felt with how everything was handled.

I did not think it was fair that Taylor was left to be the "bad girl" in all of this. She was put in a super awkward position and I know it was difficult for her to reach a decision. I was really touched that she chose for me to go because after all the back and forth it became clear that she really wanted to go to Paris, especially to Chanel. Her decision to let me go made me love her more (even though I didn't think that was possible).

Brad, you are so loved in our household. You MAKE the Rachel Zoe Project for us.

A piece of advice for both you & Taylor. Both of you don't feel validated in your job from time to time, Taylor even more so.

This is not an issue with either of you, but with Rachel. Hopefully with Roger helping out now, this will fade away.

Thanks for all the laughs and adorable you!

Well Brad!! I love you and yes maybe you should have stayed. However I don't think the decision was made right in the first place. It was Rachel that should have had everything set up before Paris so she could get her whole staff a well deserved fun week in Paris. But knowing that Taylor didn't want things to go wrong in LA she stepped up to the plate.

Brad, you did nothing wrong!!! Of course both you and Taylor wanted to go to Paris, and it is wrong for anyone to think that you should step down from the opportunity. Stand up and fight for yourself. Nothing is handed out freely. Ask for what you want! Taylor was better suited to stay back to work with J Garner, and although I love her work, you are so much better in the social scene than her. If Rachel truly thought Taylor should go, then it is her fault for not saying so directly. I repeat, you did nothing wrong. You're a good person (and so is Taylor) who works hard. Don't let all this BS people are writing get to you. I think you and Taylor are at peace with the outcome, and that is what matters. Stay true to yourself and stay strong!

Could you explain why you didn't give Taylor the opportunity to go to Paris? She has worked there longer than you and absolutely deserved to go. You could tell how excited she was at the prospect. I don't understand what you were thinking. You were having this great time and she is home working like crazy. She deserved to be there. You didn't. Why didn't you step down and let her go and have her reward and her moment?

Brad you are great and I'm so glad you went to paris. Taylor is an ungreatful little brat who needs to grow up and stop whining and pouting about everything. You are a much better support to Rachel than Taylor could ever be.

For the love of God, PLEASE ease up on the giant clown bow ties! I LOVE bow ties and wear them regularly, but yours are just ridiculous.

OK,clearly Taylor should have went to Paris no matter who had to decide. I was disappointed in you that you didn't insist that she be the one to go, test or no test. This all starts with Rachel. A woman running a business who clearly wants to expand, better "grow some" or success will be harder to achieve for many reasons, first to me, that she is going to lose a major asset in Taylor. I wouldn't blame her one bit for moving on after the way Rachel handled this one. I think Taylor should start her own styling business and she would be very successful at. Good luck to her at whatever she decides!

Hey Brad, love your presence on the show, hoever, you really should have been the better person and stepped down and said..."Taylor you need to go to Paris....you have been here WAY longer then me and you have always wanted to go...you go...I will go another time. But no, you decide to totally make this about you, and make it seem like everyone is attacking you because you don't get it and can't see that they are giving YOU the opportunity to step up and do the right thing...do you step up and do it, NO, you slink down and claim ignorant of all that is going on...shame on you...it was soooooo apparent

TAYLOR ROCKS . . .

you not so much.

With ALL DUE Respect to the Producer's of the show & editing it . . . clearly there's nothing that they could have cut, missed or added when they captured your disrespectful attitude & lack of professional grace & common sense regarding the Paris Fashion Week Trip to accompany Rachel.

The length of time someone has dedicated to a cause or career will never determine "Character" or "Common Sense".

Taylor YOU ROCK . . .

you not so much ;(

& if anyone should feel betrayed it's your Employer & Senior Associate. You're just fortunate that they were & are compassionate & considerate souls who ROCK!

however once again, you not so much . . . BTW re: set up, tricked, betrayed, change your therapist & or reduce or maybe even increase your dose of medications please.

OMG!!! I can't believe you actually went.

My heart says I wish Brad would have been the only professional person in the group and let Taylor go to Paris, as she obviously deserved. My brain says HEY RACHEL...BE THE FREAKING BOSS AND TAKE YOUR TENURED EMPLOYEE!!!!!! HEY TAYLOR, QUIT BEING PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE AND STAND UP FOR YOURSELF. I guess when it comes to a free trip to Paris, maybe, like Brad I'd put right and wrong aside and go to Paris. Brad obviously wanted it pretty bad since he went despite the fact both Rachel and Taylor didn't think he should go.

Hi Brad,
I am mad about red...love that red trench coat you had on (at the dog groomers) where can I get one? Suni1

Shame on you for going to Paris. You should have stayed home and let Taylor go. I never thought you would play the selfish card Brad!

Hi Brad,

Welcome to working in the world of women. Taylor is a big girl, and should have said, "sorry Brad, I'm going, I've got senority". Unfortunately a lot of women are often unable to say what they want. they are afraid of looking selfish. Of course, Rachel should have handled it in the first place, but this is unfortunately how a lot of women communicate! In a roundabout wimpy way which serves no one! It's a bummer. But will hopefully change. The only way to deal with any professional situation is to be as direct and as courteous as possible. You handled it well, I think. Those girls are ridiculous. And are making everyone miserable. The whole drams was totally unnecessary

One word from me to you...BABY. D. Ray above said the rest.

Brad,

You are without a doubt one of the cutest guys I've ever seen! You are the Cary Grant of Gay Men. I look forward to seeing you every Monday night and hope to see a little, just a little, more skin :)

I'd rather see Taylor in Paris. She's SUCH a hard worker. Why wouldn't she want to go on a fabulous trip! Brad, like ya babe, but ... well, everyone has already said it: You should have politely, graciously, and honorably stepped aside for the employee with most seniority -- even if it would've killed you to do so.

Hi Brad
First of all if you were told about Paris and Taylor there should of been another assistant to handle any business in the US. I own my business and have 6 assistants and things come up that is part of life and being ready for a GROWING BUSINESS. So who is wrong is Rachael she needs to learn how to trust others and make a great business choices

Brad...you have lost some SERIOUS cool points. You should have let Taylor go to Paris.

I want to know what designer brads glassesare, and where I can find them!

First I want to say that I enjoy you immensely. You always make me laugh and this year you are fantastic at your job. However, Taylor clearly should have gone to Paris. She has worked with Rachel much longer than you have, she has seniority over you and frankly, she deserved to go after working for RZ for 3 years. I was shocked that you felt entitled to go. Taylor showed alot of class by putting the business first, before her wants and needs.

I adore you Brad and think you would be a great person to work with, but I think you should have volunteered to stay in LA this time. Think about it. Taylor had to leave NY to take care of some jobs last time. Rachel thinks enough of you and has enough confidence in your ability to take care of these three jobs. She even trusts you with Jennifer Garner. That should have been a huge boost to your ego and confidence. Your reaction should not have been a hissy fit that Rachel did not think you were doing a good enough job. If she had insisted Taylor stay to take care of the jobs, that would have meant she did not feel you could successfully take care of them yourself.

You need to think and look at both sides of things before you go off on a tangent.

I do agree with one thing. Rachel should have been the boss and said who was going to go and who was going to stay to take care of the three jobs.

Brad you really were my favorite. Regardless of how Taylor has been with past shows she was Super excited to go to Paris. Yes RZ was totally irresponsible with how she handled it, but you showed your true colors by accepting to go. This was a TEST Brad. A test of character and you truely failed BIG TIME. Taylor shrugs off everything like it doesn't affect her but she is a sensitive and loving person. You are so caught up in the glitz and glam of everything that you don't stop to think of others. How selfish and down right nasty of you to accept her gracious offer. Taylor can walk down the streets of Paris and command attention with that special glow of hers. You couldn't attact mud at a pig convention despite all your labels. Your a big fake.

All of us are all disappointed in peoples reactions to you Brad, YOU DESERVED TO GO TO PARIS NOT TAYLOR. I don't know where people think you have an attitude either, people clearly are really clueless, and see things through clouded glasses with bias from other posts to go with the crowd. GOOD FOR YOU going to Paris. But i would suggest finding another job im sure your friends are encouraging you to start your own business. I'm sure your clients would be happy to follow. They love you. No employer has a right to test an employee, and can be sued or worse. This was on TV people Rachel Zoe's name will definitely be on peoples tongue especially the press after this episode. Hostile work environment suit using the taping of the show to prove that you are exactly in that. With the back stabbing, and defamation of character going on you are sure to win good luck brad you will need it after all this.

I don't get your work attitude at all. The boss doesn't have to explain if plans change. Rachel is too easy on you. There was work to be done in LA. I thought you were hired to "help" Taylor. Now all of a sudden, you act like you're her equal. Its about pecking order. You were pouting and didn't let Taylor talk to you about it. Then you complain about being set up. You were setting Taylor up to feel bad for you. You need to work form a more mature and professional attitude. Its a job after all......

I've been in the workforce for many years and have learned that the person who says they're too busy to talk or help you do something is the least busy. Seems to me that description fits Brad.

You are bradalicious! I look forward to watching you each week.

Love you Brad but Taylor should have gone to Paris. I hope you got her a amazing gift from Paris, you owe her one big time.

Taylor from past episodes has demonstrated that she clearly has a mind of her own and a voice to go with it-If she said for you to go then its ok. I mean it was not your responsibility to try to play the "oh you go, no you go, no you go" game. Rachel is the boss and should have said, "So and so will be travelling to Paris with me for XYZ and so and so will stay to manage clients in our absence." Instead it turns into this emotional drama. What a drag.

Brad, I know it's really hard to second-guess and analyze discussions and motives of passive-aggressive people. Rachel and Taylor, as much as I love them, need to learn to speak honestly and openly. Hidden agendas and "testing" others is unprofessional and childish. I had hoped that Rachel would make the tough decision (her job as employer) but, since she left it to Taylor, hopefully Tay will not take it out on you or Rachel by copping an attitude. Once a decision is made there is no need for being a martyr or holding it over another.

None of this would have happened had Rachel done her job as a manager. She made it worse by not making a decision. All the bad feelings about being tested and being talked about happened because of Rachel. If she had just made the decision (as she should have) one of them would have been disappointed but he/she would have understood and it would have been over with.

I agree with the majority of the people commenting. You should have volunteered to stay behind and take care of the work, and let Taylor go to Paris. Not only does she have seniority over you, she was working during NY Fashion Week and didn't have a chance to have any fun. You didn't really seem like a team player to me this past episode. I understand you're working hard, and I agree that you did seem "set up." Rachel should stop avoiding confrontation and should have told you you were staying and that Taylor was going to Paris.

Despite all that, I was disappointed in your choices.

Hey Brad! Love the show, and you are so dang funny!

By the way, can you tell your folks at Bravo to be more careful where they place their commercials?

In the middle of the "Paris" episode, they ran a commercial for next week's episode that clearly showed you in Paris.

Kind of ruined the suspense of whether you or Taylor would go, since the commercial showed me that you were in Paris.

Thanks!

Brad you say it wasn't fair that Taylor was left to be the "bad girl" in all of this & she was put in a super awkward position in having to make the Paris decision. Yet, you let her have to make a decision that was wrong. The right thing for you to have done, was to step aside & allow Taylor to go - she is YOUR SENIOR & has worked with Rachel for years - she earned the trip. Until last night, I thought Taylor was the "all about me person," but alas, I fear you have now earned that title.

Brad: Rachel clearly did the wrong thing and put you both in a terrible position, but when all is said and done, you are part of a team and should be thinking of what's the most fair and that would have been to let the person who has more seniority go....would it really have been that difficult to tell the clients that you'd be the one to stay and help them? As you said yourself, you've been working hard, you know your stuff....Taylor should have gone, particularly after she missed out on so much of NY fashion week.

Brad, I adore you. I think you're funny, sweet and extremely charming. The stuff that comes out of your mouth makes me bust a gut. I preface my opinion with this because this is not a malicious comment coming from someone who doesn't like you. That said, you should have let Taylor go to Paris. She is your senior and you were hired to be her assistant initially. After not being a big fan of Taylor last year there is a theme that has emerged this season and it's that she works harder than you and Rachel combined. Rachel is brilliant at what she does and you have the charisma, but Taylor is really the worker bee who gets stuff done. It was really disappointing that you didn't step down even after Taylor made her decision. Last night became clear to me why Taylor is so resentful and feels stuck in her position. I hope this season of the show has illuminated why Taylor is so upset all of the time. Who wants to work somewhere where they are clearly indispensable but not appreciated?

Love Brad but I agree, Taylor should have gone to Paris. I think in the long run this is just giving her more fodder to leave RZ but I do think that perhaps it would have renewed her relationship with Rachel and the job. It's too bad that they both didn't go. Rachel handled it badly but Taylor should have been the winner here.

Brad, I like you; but, in this instance You were selfish. Just the fact that Taylor wanted to go should have been enough. You go all the time. You should have been gracious and told her to have a great time.I think Taylor is more concerned about the business than You are.Not good!!

Brad, I completely see your point. Every place that I have worked - someone who does not go after such a great opportunity is eventually either let go or demoted. It says to your boss that you're not that dedicated of an employee or that you don't care about going forward in the company. This is your future so why not fight for every opportunity you can get?!! P.S. Taylor seems like a terrific co-worker who was put in a really bad place - that was really not professional of RZ.

Brad ,i really think you should not go to paris.Taylor deserve to go because of sooooooooo many reasons. She has been with rachel for so long before you and u should have not agreed to go when she offers. It was very selfish of you..REALLY..who cares about Paris!!!!!.Rachel is the boss..come one step up to te plate .you sign the paychecks

I am kinda dissapointed that you didn't let Taylor go instead. That introduction to Jen Garner could've been made prior to the trip to ease any uncomfortableness either of you may have had about working together. Taylor made a mature, adult decision despite her true desire to go to Paris. I admire her for that. You seem a bit immature and self-centered. I thought she was a kook at first and she still is but she does put business first. Rachel should have made that decision really. That is unfortunate that she put Taylor on the spot to decide.

I don't think any of this would have happened had Rachel done her job as an employer. The boss is there to make the tough decisions, what she did caused quite a bit of interoffice turmoil. Totally unneccesary. Had Rachel stepped up and just said what her decision was, someone would have been disappointed but there wouldn't have been all these bad feelings about tests, stepping up to the plate, etc. It would have been over in about 10 seconds. She just didn't want to deal so she threw it on her employees shoulders.

Brad ... BRAD? ... BRAD!!! I'm sorry, but you did NOT deserve to go. Taylor has seniority. You were hired to help Taylor out so she could advance and you could balance the rest of the work in the office- that was what you were hired to do. Instead you put on hissy fits and trumped over her seniority- so not cool. You should not have gone to Paris- and I'm upset at you personally b/c I think you are a good guy in general ... but it was so selfish of you to go. Rachel has every right to see how you react to things b/c you are working for her and it's up to her to sometimes see if she wouldn't be there, how you would handle a situation. Taylor could have informed you in on all the Paris 411. You played a game with Rachel and Taylor- "Whose Personality should go?" and I don't think that's fair at all. You see Taylor getting upset that she wants to go up in ranks with fashion (that she's still stuck doing basic things) and she's put in her time. Love ya but u have grow up- it's just not professional to act like that! I don't know how you could possibly make it up to her- but just flowers will not do! And it's not a show about who loves Brad more and what they have to give up ... u shouldn't have trumped Taylor! Really disappointed in you that you'd be so confrontational and cocky (that u felt it def should have been you just b/c Taylor didn't want to go to past functions that she had to go to frequently when you hadn't been working for Rachel).

Brad, I don't blame you in that unnecessary complicated situation about Paris. Rachel is the boss, it's just a matter of doing a few seconds to choose someone to go with her and someone stay and clearly communicate that decision to both of you. I am sure either you and Taylor would accept the decision. Taylor offered you to go to Paris and you did ask if this was another test or not and offered to stay. She said no. Simple... I don't understand why everyone said you should have let her go to Paris. She made her choice. Move on, people.

If Rachel continues to employ you I will no longer view the show. You appear to be incompetent lagger and your whiney selfish childish ways have no place in a professionaly run organization. You need to realize that you are just not that talented and not nearly enough to offer a fast moving firm.......and move on down,,,,,

I agree with D. Ray, Ddes and all the Viewers. Brad, you should have stepped up to the plate and let Taylor go to Paris. That would have been the RIGHT thing to do. Taylor has been working her ass off for years and she deserved it more than you. Sorry, but you were wrong on this one.

This is about Rachel's pitting her assistants against each other. Too bad. She helps to foster the tension between the two. I too would jump at the chance to go to Paris and if Taylor could not make that decision to go that's her deal. You both - Taylor and Brad have my sympathy working for Rachel. As with all entrepreneurs - they know their stuff but not how to run a business. Brad and Taylor adorable!

The right and gracious thing for you to do was to step aside and allow Taylor to go, as no matter what, she is your senior. She has worked with Rachel for years. Taylor moved up a notch in my book and you've moved down the ladder. Believe it or not, it's not all about you. Obviously, Rachel should have just automatically selected Taylor, but when she didn't, you should have done the right thing.

I don't know why Rahel appologized to you and said said she made a mistake about the Paris trip thing. She didn't have to tell you at all, and as your boss she has the right to put you under any tests she wants too. I have no good Ideal about how good you are at your work, but you have no loyalty and no respect for your superiors, you are lucky to be working with Rachel, no other boss would put up with you until you changed your attitude.

Taylor shoud go to Paris - not you.

That girl has been working for a long time with Rachel. I don't think is fair.

Brad, you are a great guy, but come on... you should send flowers to Taylor and tell her how great she is for let you go to Paris.
