Often when a women wakes up feeling nauseous for an extended period of time – there's a "bun in the often." Unfortunately Rachel and I weren't so lucky. Rachel was feeling sick due to vertigo. I have to admit, I've never heard of vertigo until that day, and I honestly wish I never had. As I sit here writing this today, Rachel is feeling the effects of a recent relapse. Apparently, once you get it, it can come back when you get stressed, are sleep deprived or travel – basically Rachel's job description. So the last six months have been a constant struggle of balancing Rachel's illness and the rapidly expanding world of Rachel Zoe Inc. – not that much fun.
We also got a look at Rachel's – ahem – management style ,which typically involves avoidance. For as controlling as Rachel seems to be (and she is) she is also very non-confrontational. She'd rather walk away from a fight or hope that a problem goes away. That's pretty much what happened with the whole who gets to Paris issue. Rather than tell either Taylor or Brad the disappointing news, she hoped that one of them would just step up and volunteer. As usual, Taylor decides that she should stay back and do the jobs versus going to Paris. This is also very Taylor, in that now she could be upset and angry that she had to stay back while also probably secretly happy since happiness isn't something Taylor particularly enjoys.
A bun in the oven might prevent the vertigo. It's amazing the healing properties a pregnancy has. Love the show and I'd be fan later too if you had to skip a season or two.
Thank you for a wonderful, interesting show. I also have Vertigo and am able to control it by "Brandt-Daroff" exercises. Basically, Vertigo often comes from ear crystals that become dislodged and float in the inner ear(s). Do a search for "Brandt-Daroff Exercises" and you will see how she can get relief on her own. They are very simple exercises where she can lay on the bed with her head hanging off the bed and shake up her inner ears - sort of what you do when you have water in your ears. This will start to relieve her symptoms (I promise).
I am also very small and thin and have fragile bones. I also travel a lot internationally and I do think that the years of plane travel have taken their toll on my inner ears. Also, I don't know if Osteoperosis runs in Rachel's family, but doctors are finding that bone loss in the ear also has a lot to do with the onset of Vertigo.
There are so many ways to control Vertigo and I hope that Rachel doesn't give up her dreams. I really feel that this is not so much about stress, but more about physical issues.
Rodger,
I love watching the Rachael Zoe Show. It is so entertaining. I also think that you and rachael make a cute couple. I would like to see you be a little bit more supported with Rachel and her medical issue with (Vertigo). I had a sailor who worked with me for two years who had vertigo. It took the (ENT)doctors a long time to diagnosis her problem. The only thing that helped her was the plugs that they put in her ears. The sailor commented to me was that she notice the differents right away. She went from constant bed rest, headaches, fatique, dizzines, and she always felt like throwing up, to back to her old self again.
Rodger you are so good for Rachel! A friend of mine went through the vertigo and had other symptoms and found out it was aspartame that brought it on. She drank Diet Coke and ate a lot of mints with artificial sweetner. All she did was quit eating and drinking it and she is symptom free. She used to miss days of work and they had her on steroids and all kinds of tests for inner ear stuff. She once had a relapse and realized she had had something that was diet to drink and didn't know it and now she knows that was the problem! Worth a shot if it is something she consumes... maybe from Starbucks???
I have been having bouts with vertigo for 5 years. I have discovered its more about sinus and the your not draining properly and need to blow your nose and keep your passages open. There are some more suggestions I have that work well for me. Please feel free to email me as I have learned to deal with this annoying problem . Also, when you sleep try to keep your head elevated so your sinus's can drain. Hope this helps Rachael.
Roger, Rachel is so lucky to have you, and you her. I hope you share with her your views about Taylor. Taylor set herself up to be the martyr. I wish she would take her mother's advice and quit crabbing about Paris, as it was her decision not to go. She doesn't have the right to complain since she volunteered not to go. Good luck to you and Rachel and I hope she is able to take it a little easier to keep the vertigo at bay.
Poor Rachel. I feel for her. About 4 months ago I had viral inner ear infection. It caused me to have vertigo, dizziness, nausea and as a result I also had panic attacks. I really thought i was going to die. When its happening you want to die. Maybe stress can make it worse. I am type A. Have seen 2 ENT, one Otolaryngologist, an Osteopath and my internist. And none of the specialists recommend taking drugs. Your body needs to heal itself. I am heading on month 5, have gotten better but not back to normal. I’ll be thinking about you -- and as always praying for good health.
Ps Vertigo has been harder then pregnancy and giving natural birth.
I too suffer bouts of Vertigo ever since I painted my garage with primer in 90 degree heat and poor ventilation. I went to the emergency room and the only thing that made it go away was 2 vailum and a good sleep, when I woke up it was gone. Now anytime I am exposed to paint, primer, or harsh chemicals of any kind it comes back, I take my vailum, go to sleep and its gone the next day. I will say after 2 years it is now very mild and infrequent...maybe an episode per year. Hang in there and take care of yourself!!!!
I was not a Rachel fan last season but have come to enjoy the show. I agree, Rodger, that you are a doll and you and Rachel seem to be a great couple. I hope you can steer her towards managing the business in a way that will better help her deal with the health problems. She probably needs another assistant!
That being said, I always thought that Taylor should have been the one to go to Paris and that Rachel should have made that decision; however, I don't think Brad would have been able to fill Taylor's shoes if he had stayed behind. It sure seems like T is just not a happy person, but I wondered how much of that was for 'show.'
Ok, honestly, i was hoping she was pregnant too... that would make for great TV! You two are the cutest couple I have ever seen, and I love this show! All of you are awesome, and keep up the good work!
You Rock and Rachel is very lucky to have you. I hope she is getting more rest these days.
Roger, you seem like a great guy and devoted husband. Rachel needs to get a high powered manager to help with better organizational skills and communication with staff and clients. She doesn't have to have all the added stress and should be enjoying you (in your marriage) as much as her career. You have to go out alone on dates with your wife. She is beautiful and has to relax and love you too!!
Oh Rodger...why can't there be more men like you!!! You are such the Devoted husband. And I say that with a capital"D"!!! I admire how you are always there for your wife. This is what a marriage is all about!!!
Roger, sorry as this has nothing to do with the topic, however, could you tell me where the pair of yellow lamps are from in your apartment? I love them!
I agree that craniosacral therapy may help with the vertigo, it could be an inner ear problem that chiropractic adjustments will definitely help. Please assure Brad and Taylor people do not die as a result of vertigo.
Rachel needs to see an Otolaryngologist (ear, nose throat doc) to be properly diagnosed! See this web site for more info. http://www.vestibular.org/index.php
This may seem like an odd suggestion, but have Rachael look into EFT ( Emotional Freedom Technique) It is something that she can check in on on her own and not have a doctor charging her a lot of money to learn it. There are a lot of books and videos on it. The one book she can read is Gary Craig, THE EFT MANUAL. Listen to some new age music and try his exercises. You can order the book on Amazon or get it free on the internet. You have to print the whole thing and buying the book is easier and it reads better. I have Multiple Sclerosis and it helps with the pain. Also it takes about 15 minutes once you get it down. I send Reiki love to her. I use it along with Reiki and hypnotherapy. Make sure you get a person who does keep your autonomy. It is important. If you have any questions, use email below

Hey there Rodger,
Started having Vertigo over 12 yrs ago caused by stress and grief. Never really goes away. She needs to take anti-naus. pills.
Just want to say that I get vertigo quite a bit and the one thing that has made a HUGE visit is regular visits to my chiropractor -- a good chiro can do gentle manipulation to your head and neck that will equal things out and make a huge HUGE difference. Cranial sacral therapy can also have the same positive effects. You just have to make sure you don't go to a practitioner who uses force or intense manipulation, just subtle movements and you will be amazed!!!! I hope Rachel tries it out...I think she will find amazing relief...
Rachel is so entirely lucky to have you in her life. I think you two would be great parents. I too was hoping it was a bun in the oven. Oh well... maybe next time!
Taylor definitely creates drama all on her own. I think she depends on the fact that Rachel is non-confrontational so that she can be left with the decision on if she wants option A or option B. She then will pick the option that makes her look self sacrificing and then use it to whine and complain and play the victim.
Good luck with that! The rest of you all are great!
Ms. Zoe,
You are an amazing woman! You have an amazing unique talent! Women of all ages look up to! Please take care of yourself and let those around you who love you, help you out. I'm no doctor but I think anyone can see that you are stretching yourself too "thin". Take that hottie husband of yours on a quiet, romantic getaway, eat some great food and get some rest. Hollywood will be there when you get back. Don't let those vultures use you up until there's nothing left for you and your family!! good luck to you, your family and your staff!!
Hi Roger,
Love Rachel's show!!
I am so sorry to hear about her vertigo. My sister had the same problem. Went through the meds for it to no avail. She was so sick she did not know what to do. Finally she learned of a malnipulation to realign parts of your inner ear. It is called canalith repositioning procedure, also called Epley Maneuver. She checked and found a doctor to do this. She did not have high hopes because of what he told her. It works in some people. Something to do with a calcium deposit in the inner ear. She had it done and boom.....no more vertigo. That was over six years ago and she has not had it since. Also, I am sure her doctor has checked her potassium levels.
Good luck to you and Rachel. I hope that she gets rid of this because you are so sick, you can hardly stand it!!!
Brad always gets front runner, I can see how Taylor feels. Brad whines and has his tantrum and everyone gives into him. He went to the Oscars, he went to NY Fashion show while Taylor had to spend her time running from shop to shop and by the time the show came around was tired and no longer interested. Taylor is bummed because Brads always acting like he's special and then acts like a baby about things. Taylor's the one who looks after Rachel, you notice who took her home and stayed with her while she was sick. Quit acting like a weasel Brad, Grow up and realize who's been with Rachel longer and quit being so selfish. You're a Jerk.
Roger. Rachael is lucky to have you by her side, she is such a workaholic and she really need to take it easy. I love the show but she never slow down. I hope that she gets better and I will be praying for her. Sometimes a body calls for rest and relaxation. Take care of her she needs you. God bless!
wow sounds like you have some issues with Taylor. I guess we know what's going to happen Taylor will not be working at Rachel Zoe soon.
Rodger, you and Rachel are so incredibly blessed to have one another. I'm a bit of a skeptic sometimes, but I think you two are the real deal and you're totally adorable together in every way. Rachel is in my prayers as she copes with her vertigo - I've been having problems with it on and off for the last month and it is awful. Like Rachel, I'm always on the go and keeping myself beyond busy, so I sympathize - it's the worst thing for the busy gal on the go! Love you all so much - hang in there!
