The Waiting Game

Rachel explains the difference between movie births and the real thing and how excited she was to take Skyler home.

By Rachel Zoe

I cannot believe the day is actually here -- it's time to pack for the hospital. I remember being incredibly anxious and as with every other significant event in my life, I, of course, had to over pack. I knew if I wasn't going to feel my best, I had to at least look glamorous!

Thankfully, work continued on around me, my incredible styling team booked a job with Molly Sims in NYC. She is a dear friend and client of mine, but unfortunately my entire styling staff was completely booked on other jobs. I was so bummed that I couldn't be there for Molly, but at 9 ½ months pregnant I couldn't fly. Thankfully, I can always count on Joey. Since he would be with Molly in NYC for hair and makeup, we sent him with some dress options too! I was a little nervous because this was Joey's first styling job on his own, but I knew he and Molly are super close, and both she and I trust him completely. Joey totally nailed it, and Molly looked insane in the Rachel Roy dress.

Finally, the big day was here. My water brokes in the middle of the night -- and, as Rodger, likes to describe it, the waiting game began. At the hospital, my room was full with family, friends, and team Zoe members, it was so incredible having them all there –- it definitely helped to put my mind at ease. If I took anything away from the entire birthing experience it was: don't believe what you see in the movies! There was no screaming, no barreling gurneys -- everyone was calm, there was a lot of waiting, a lot of visiting, and a lot of love. I could not wait to bring Skyler home with me! Leaving the hospital that day I knew my life would be forever changed -- I knew I would love and worry for this little boy for the rest of my life.
