Pushing Myself Creatively
Rachel explains why she never takes her styling hat off and why she loves dressing others.
The minute we arrived home from Paris, it was time for one of our favorite events of the year: the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. It is the most glamorous event in LA, and another excuse for me to play dress up with Skyler, Rodger, and Joey! The event was incredibly chic, and a perfect moment to relax with my family, but could you tell that I couldn't wait to get back into the office to work on my pre-fall collection?
Whenever my design director Michael comes to LA from New York, I love to take advantage of every minute with him. The biggest challenge as a designer is factoring in all of the details -- fit, quality, fabric, prints and color! -- while also making sure each piece has my personal stamp on it.
But I've learned that a big part of the process is pushing myself creatively.
Putting my styling hat back on (let's be honest, I never take it off), I was thrilled for the chance to work with Jaime King on an InStyle shoot. The direction for the shoot was '60s mod, which is such a huge trend for spring and my personal style inspiration. Jaime plays that role so perfectly -- she is totally flawless! And I am so excited to give the Louis Vuitton runway pieces a major "moment" in this story.
While I am always learning to balance being a mother, stylist, designer and entrepreneur, I am loving every minute of it.
