Rachel Zoe

Rachel dishes on balancing the Rachel Zoe Collection with mommy-hood (and how to stay glamorous through it all).

on Mar 13, 20130

As stressful as it is to put together a fashion show, the aftermath is when things really start to get interesting. That's when I have to read all of the press reviews, and then go with my team to meet with retailers and buyers to see what the market wants to purchase. The pressure is always on!

The hardest part (this time around) with my spring collection was finding out that some of my favorite pieces were not going to be produced. This is very common in the design process, but I just get so attached to each piece -- each one is like another baby! I'm constantly learning how to make beautiful and glamorous pieces that women can incorporate into their every day wardrobes while still remaining true to my vision.

Aside from my job as a designer, this is when I really started to learn how to multitask: by keeping one eye on all of the other parts of my business (styling, digital and mommyhood) at all times. This includes launching a new blow-dry salon, Dream Dry! I'm just trying to keep up while keeping everything totally glamorous.

I love your Maxi gowns, but I would love to be able to get these things at affordable prices, I love your show and I think that you are awesome, and so do me and my friends, but we can't buy any of the lines.

The collection was so California modern but you could really, really see Rachel Zoe in it, that was the important part.  Plus it's accessible, unlike any of the other shows we saw.  I would buy the sapphire dress and the drapey ivory ensemble in a heartbeat. But c'mon, the most amazing part was that Roger/Rachel love child, too georgeous to be real...

The bangs really look great. Sky is amazing. You and Roger seem to be going to a bad place. You both NEVER spoke to each other the way that you do in this season. Watch the show and see if YOU see it. Don't head for divorce court. Get back on track.

Don't believe the buyers Rachel!!  They don't speak for all their clients!  I totally love the light blue maxi and would be first in line for it!!!  As for the buyer who said no to the maxi when it was suggested to just buy the shirt, I would so buy it even to wear as only a shirt!!  I love the flowy look of all your maxis.  Don't give up (or in)...keep making what you love because we love your clothes!

Love the show.   You are so talented.  Sky is absolutely adorable!!!  Rodger is adorable as well.  Much success to you, as I am sure will continue to grow.

I love your maxis! I don't think maxi dresses and skirts are a trend but a new classic piece every woman must own. Where can I get the totally gorgeous light blue dress? It's a must have! Thank you for sharing the behind the "seams" moments with us......

I WANT YOUR MAXIS! LOVE THEM! Nordstrom always misses the mark.

love, love, love the show! just don't let it derail your marriage. Don't listen to your 'vp', she undermines Roger at every chance and tries to make you 'feel bad' about your decision to marry him. He gets you and loves you. No one else will know the real Rach. The haters like your little assistant need to shut up until they know what having a real relationship is all about. Stay strong and looking forward to watching you, Rog and Sky thrive.

I really think Nordstrom and the other buyers missed the mark by not buying the Maxi length dresses. The Maxi dress is an easy way to be elegant and comfy at the same time! Boo Hoo!

Hi Rachel,

I love your style and your designs!  As a woman who works hard at her career and also desperately tries to make time for a personal life, I just wanted to put in my two cents about the maxis.  They are gorgeous.  But, in my opinion, unless you are rail thin and very tall, the volume from the maxis can make you look heavier.  To offset the additional volume, one would have to wear very high heels.  For most of us, that would be impossible to do on a regular (much less daily) basis, while running around trying to get things done.  So, while I love looking at them on you or your tall, thin models, I know I couldn't pull them off.  Bummer.

You are an artist, but you are very nervous.  Your rapid fire speech, your inability to keep a loyal staff, etc.  Slow down, all could be gone tommorrow!

Hi Rachel........I love your maxi and totally agree with you, I think some ladies feel a little

to dressed up when waring a long dress or skirt but it's all in the head. I have a great idea

for your maxi look......your sales person has to also relay the same message you did by

pointing out all the benefits and of course passion!! You can also relay that message by

putting a lovely flyer/tag on the dress modeling the benefit and/or REASONS to use a MAXI.

Comfort, squatting & glamour........etc.

Hope this helps.....

Love the looks Rachel -- and completely agree with you about the maxis. Don't give up on them. The teens and tweens may wear nothing but dresses that look like long T's but real ladies want something we can move around in all day long!

Loved your spring collection. Why does nordstrom always seem to buy the same tired stuff. They need to take a few risks. It seems like their selection is always so safe and so boring. It's like they say "oh well this worked 3 seasons ago so let's just do that again." There were some fab pieces that they really missed and now that I have seen what you really have to offer, I am way more impressed with your label. I am glad I got to see it. Really, truly beautiful. And I like the new bangs! Cute.

A woman who becomes a mother usually softens to the world around her and becomes enlightened to the realization of protecting those who can't protect themselves. Yet, I am shocked after seeing this week's episode with the use, promotion and heartlessness regarding the use of fur. Who in this day and age  is not aware of how hideous the fur trade is? Everyone has seen the heart wrenching videos of animal torture for the fashion industry. Why would you want to perpetuate the abuse of innocent animals?

Hey, I agree 100% with Rachel on the Maxi issue. Really people, do you really want a dress up to your butt and have to worry about bending, sitting, heck even walking? Not me. I personally loved everyone of those maxis. Now I can't afford a Rachel Zoe maxi but I would love to have all of them. The sheer comfort of being able to move freely without having to worry about showing the world your private parts is more than worth the price. I actually find the long maxi in a flowing gauze like fabric extremely comfortable and stylish to wear in spring and summer. I spend a good deal of the early spring looking everywhere for long dresses to wear for the spring and summer. Talk about comfort and still being stylish and neat. Dress them up or down as you please with different accessiories. What more could you ask for in ease of wear and comfort. Get Real retailers of America. You are dead wrong on what customers are looking for.

Love your clothes! I wish I was the size of your demographic buyer. I have also enjoyed watching your show. HOWEVER, please stop using the word "literally" all of the time. You often speak like you are a teenage girl, not a sophisticated business woman. Good luck with everything!
