Phaedra Parks

Phaedra explains how her time vacationing with Jane Fonda inspired her to plan the Africa trip.

on Jan 26, 20120

Happy New Year! Hopefully your holidays were all that you hoped for, and 2012 has found you with a renewed sense of purpose. This is the time of year for reflection and resolutions. The New Year spirit fosters anticipation of a tomorrow that is better than yesterday. The year 2012 is significant, as the number 12 represents order. Historically, the number twelve has great significance; most noteworthy, Jesus appeared in public and uttered his first recorded words at the age of twelve; there were twelve sons of Israel; twelve apostles; twelve imams in the Islamic religion; and twelve astrological signs of the zodiac.

Similar to the number 12, in the past three episodes, we are inviting order into various aspects of our lives. Sheree and Kim give great attention to their physical beings –- by keeping their bodies in perfect tune. Kim and Kroy strive to bring order to their blended family. As they settle in to their new home, they address and set the tone of order by clearly communicating their expectations to their daughters. NeNe attempts to bring order to the relationship between her and her business partner. Cynthia and Peter open their hearts up to bringing order in their marriage as they receive counseling from Pastor Pollard and patiently work on communicating effectively. Lastly, Apollo and I explore order as it relates to our funeral home venture and our friendship with Cynthia and Peter.

Phadera should get some major points for trying to be the bigger person on the show. You have proven that unity among some of the women is possible without drama all the time. NeNe, who I love is all about drama although she says she's not. NeNe I love, but Phadera is really getting the ladies to get along sometimes no matter what their issues are. I have enjoyed watching them while they vacationed in Africa. The unity created by watching how hard a life they have in South Africa and yet they are happy. All the ladies were touched by that and it help them bond a little. Marlo is a character and I like her a lot. I have always liked Kandi from the first time she arrived on the show. I am not a Sheree fan and I have tried even when she became a little softer in the second season of the show. Kudos to Phadera for being a true leader when it comes to helping the others find some common reason to bond.

When you first came on the show I didn't know if I liked you or not. Now, however, you have become my very favorite lady on the show. You are so funny and I love your little fast quips you shoot off. You and your husband and son are such a lovely family and you show so much love and appreciation to each other. I like your Mother too. I am a 71 yr. old grandma raising my grand-daughter and not as young as you girls, but I so enjoy watching you, especially you! Keep it real with the ladies. P.S. I really don't know why Kim is on the show...she adds nothing.

Phaedra, I love you. You need your own show. I enjoy your comments about the ladies. You are the only reason I enjoy the show.

Phaedra I know you must have heard this before, but I must say it. Please find yourself some NEW FRIENDS. you are so out of place and class with this group of women, all except for Khandi. I feel embarrassed for you every time you have to appear in public with them. For them to bring all that pettiness and drama to S. Africa was truly sad to see. I'm so glad you didn't let NeNe press play on you. I loved it. she couldn't get it popping with you to save her soul and it was the best scene of the season!!!

Phaedra you are sooooo crazy. Not only are you smart but you have class and a great sense of humor. I'm so glad you gave Sheree dumb ass the name of another attorney. She trying to pull some sympathy votes by not sending his ass to jail for none support payments. I just wonder how she feels now??? Keep Kandi close I love the friendship!!!

Reverance, Please, the group did not have to feel the same way that you or anyone feels, really if they decided to have a laugh at the statue they can. You have your Opinion and the ladies have thiers, it is a free country and no one has to view things the exact same fashion as you do. Some people go to far, you can't tel people how to feel, really, go get your life!

Dear Phaedra, I am going thru a bad custody battle against my X over our youngest son. What happened between us was back in Feb. 16, 2010, my x attempted suicide and I saved him. Since then my life and our kids (2 boys ) have been put thru hell. It is a complete mess. To top it off he has been living with his parents and is going thru a mid life crisises.. He will say he is not, though. But anyway, recently we had a mediation to figure out a way for him to rebuild his relationship back that he and our youngest has been destroyed. At the mediation, he took so many jabs ame during this and I felt attacked. I tried not to do that and be the adult here, but the Judge, I felt like she was on his side.. So, on what we tried to figured out I didn't sign. I feel at a loss and don't feel comfortable and what we came up with. His contact with our son (Clay) has been strained. He says that I have poisioned his mind. I haven't! I feel somewhat confused and have been on the fence to try and figure out what to do.. Can you suggest anythin.. Help! Thanks..

Dr. J was right. I will add to that the visit to the slave exhibit. You acted like fools trying to peak at the male statue's private parts instead of showing reverance.

Hello Phaedra, I have to say that the idea and planning of the trip to South Africa was really nice. I agree that its important to help improve the consciousness of your friends. I only have one drawback thus far and that is the sneak peak of the upcoming episode where you all meet with the "Medicine Man," well actually during the entire trip when you ALL were so judgmental, negative and complaining about their lifestyle, cultural beliefs, religious beliefs, etc. I was appalled and embarrassed to say the least that there was a group of AA women in South Africa with so many negative responses to their culture. My mom used to tell me that you can always tell when a person has real class because they have the ability to make everyone and anyone around them feel good about themselves. Now, some of the previous posts on your blog say you do not have class and I disagree, I think this is a case of (to use your words), "When you now better, you do better!" Just because their traditions is different from yours doesn't make it negative, bad, ugly, stinky or simply put, not right! As a Christian, one of the first things we learn is to love others like Christ loves us. To me, that means in every way. So, even though the medicine man was throwing "bones" doesn't mean that it was negative or demonic in anyway. As Christians we have prophets, evangelists, people speaking in tongues to send a word, etc., so I was very shocked when I saw the group's behavior. What he was doing was very similar to what I've seen in the "Christian" church my entire life. Now, I will say I'm COGIC so perhaps there are Christian based religions that don't have guides, prophets, healers, prayer warriors, etc. I don't know but I'm sure if your AA and Christian, you have heard of the above mentioned. So, my charge to all of you is to participate in different African based cultural events as to learn more, educate yourselves about OUR people and then venture out to other cultures. The more you are exposed to differences that are actually similarities (we just think they're different because that's a lie we have been told to uphold the division amongst AAs, especially AA women), the less you will be turned off by a difference in lifestyle. We have got to come up a little higher! I'm charging you with this because I know you can do it! With Much METTA! Dr. J.

YOU ARE MY FAVORITE BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS!! SO ENTERTAINING ON ANY LEVEL!! MARLO? SHE JUST SEEMS TO BE THE MOST FAKE, PHONY, POOR EXUSE IN THE BOOK. HOW DARE SHE AFTER SEEING THE CHILDREN IN THE ORPHANAGE, DEMAND A WAITER BECAUSE HER SHRIMP WAS "RAW" ? SHE IS DISGUSTING AND A DISGRACE TO THE SHOW.

Lisettenyc

Phaedra thank you, thank you, thank you!!! It was so wonderful to see you and the other ladies donating your time, energy, and resources to the orphanage in Africa. In some of the other reality shows, I have seen the women get together for a fundraiser...but you ladies went above and beyond and set yourselves apart from the rest. You purchased and delivered your donations, and then spent time interacting with the children. I commend you and the other Housewives of Atlanta!

Hello Pheadra Parks, I am man who never really watch the show except when my wife had the show on and I would watch it with her. I thought that the sisters were crazy, plain crazy. Then I began to notice how you carryed yourself, much different than the other women. One particular show that really got my attention was when Cynthia had her opening night for her business that she put together without her husbands help. When she began to thank everyone and they called for her husband and he had lefted her. You turned to your husband and said "I love you" and you kissed him. That was something to take notice and that so many women can learn from your example. I am married to a woman who I am proud of and love dearly and I recognize a powerful woman who loves their man. Keep setting the example many can learn from you.

Pheadra! You are too funny....love you to pieces. Them girls thought they were going to pawn the antique room on the Southern Bell. From my TV screen, I did not want to look at the antique room...they must have all been pissed that you did not volunteer for the antique room and you knew it...you go girl.

Pheadra, you seem to be a very sweet and smart woman, but what I can't understand is your negativity towards NeNe. NeNe seems to be the most down to earth out of everyone, the one you need to watch is Shree, she needs something from you thats why the kiss @ss. You and NeNe can be best of friends if you stop listening to Shree, the trouble maker. If NeNe was so bad, why is she being blessed with good things, job opportunities, she is so very awesome on Glee as the swimming coach. Glee is one of my most favorite show, now with NeNe on it, it is even better. So Ms Pheadra, re think who is truly your friends. Your a great person, just hang out and listen to the wrong people.

Wave Runner
Wave Runner

I think you are very good at wording things that could be aggressive so most of the uneducated women you work with don't get it and I think it's GREAT! NeNe must be hiding out, not blogging, I'm sure she'll "say" it's because she's busy but we know it's because she can dish it but can't take it. Her TRUE colors came out with Marlo. Those two deserve eachother. They are both class less trash. It's obvious to everyone that neither NeNe or Marlo have a brain between them. Their lack of real education is laughingly apparent. The smalls are funny, smart, talented and educated.......GO SMALLS!

Bravo may not post this as the producers seem to want the audience to see you as class, nice, sweet and a reaaalll lady. BUT I don't! The camera is always catching you making fun of, laughing at, and talking behind the backs of the other girls. You and Sheree pushed to get Marlo on the show and now you are always talking about her. Why is she now crazy Marlo when at first she & Charles were a power couple? Since your scheme backfired and MArlo is not fighting with Nene, now you can't stand her. You don't own South Africa, you didn't pay for the trip to South Africa and you can't tell no one how to act. You, Sheree and Kandi are the problem!

Pheadra, I think a lot of folks don't know what the word "problem" means. You live a comfortable life, have a professional career and a loving family. How is Nene a problem for you? You rock and have garnered a lot of new fans this season. The fact that Nene even coined the termed "Tall vs Small" set the stage for drama. But a problem for you...I don't think so.

Phaedra, really love your attitude about not sweating the small things. You have real class and just wanted to know if your interest in running a funeral home was thoroughly researched. You have a lot of compassion and would make a wonderful director of special arrangements for families of deceased loved ones. Just came across an article that mentioned health hazards to be aware of for those funeral personnel taking care of people who died of infectious deseases etc...and was just wondering...

Phadrea, Do you always have to name drop? It's tacky!! It's just like talking about how much money you have or how much you owe. I think the ladies of Hotlanta shouldn't speak of money at all. Especially NENe, when she has been recieving gifts from that John business (monkey business) man and gifts from Marlo. I thought you were a lady, and a lady never talks or gossips behind peoples backs, that is what you said anyway!!

Phaedra, I enjoy watching the show and especially you because you appear to be a sincere person along with a few others on the show. The trip that you all took to South Africa was enlightening. Everyone who went on the trip with you seemed to be in tune with their surrounding s “EXCEPT” for Marlo. She is a very shallow person and I was disappointed in her behavior especially when she went into the store in Africa and purchased a relaxer for a child because she didn’t have on a long straight weave like hers. Unfortunately, in some areas of the world there are actually people struggling to simply keep a roof over their head and food on their tables and having straight hair doesn’t make it to their daily survival list. I guess she couldn’t find that information in her etiquette book and apparently common sense isn’t too common in her case. I’ve visited Africa before and it helped to humble me as a person and to be more appreciative of what we consider a necessity (running clean water, electricity, free education, etc…) Nene should definitely watch the company that she keeps and not pick her friends buy their height or how many designer shoes they have.

Phadera, You are the only real lady on the show. I hope they keep you on forever. You are the true Southern belle. A lady in public, know how to please her man in private and a protective mother. I do believe some of the RHOA are jealous of you. I LOVE YOU PHADERA A "older" Southern belle

Dear Phaedra, I bet Marlo didn't have enough money to throw in the air for all those South African school boys and those little children in the Adoptive agency. She should had taken off those Jimmy Choo shoes and tell the children that they can fetch $7,000.00 off those silver glisening shinny expensive shoes. Nene should had opened up her luggage and throw that up in the air to those little children and boys to let them know that she has brought them $100,000.00 worth of clothing that they can trade in for FOOD and SHELTER. Sheree should had handed in that $6,000.00 bag and tell the children that this might help with the medical supplies! SEe. SEe, SEe!
