Do the Funky Donkey with Me – Ep 11

Bravotv.com's Associate Editor wants to work out with Phaedra.

    Jan 14

You'd think a donkey booty workout video would bring people together, not tear them apart. But alas, it seems this donkey's come between Kenya and Phaedra. Will they able to get past all this booty business?

No. 3 - Do the Funky Donkey with Me

I must confess, some of those workout moves looked kind of fun. Watching Phaedra do her little squat dance made me really want to do a class with her. You'd probably be laughing half the time rather than seriously working out, but hey, laughing is good for the abs, right?

Conversely, Apollo is all business and it scares me. He's like that intimidating trainer you see at the gym telling some poor unfortunate soul to "push through the pain" while they sweat out roughly half their weight. (You then of course run an extra three minutes on the treadmill to make yourself feel better about your own comparatively feeble efforts to stay in shape.)

I have a feeling that in their good cop/bad cop video, a lot of people are going to be fast forwarding Apollo's bench press a car sections to do the Funky Donkey with Phaedra.

I read your commentary above and all I've got to say is "you're kidding right?"  Cynthia may not have known what went down between her and Phaedra except for Kenya always trying to arrive ahead of time anywhere to plead her case to anyone that would listen, but Cynthia should know that if Kenya was involved, then something is not right.  I honestly think Phaedra thought Kenya had discussed the casting with Cynthia since Kenya was he one who suggested Cynthia's agency in the first place.

All of the Donkey Booty video should have been discussed upfront, put in writing & then none of this would have happened.  This should have happened sooner not late espeially when you are dealing with friends so you can keep the friendship if something goes wrong.  Supposedly being the "business women" both say they are, they BOTH should have known better. Kenya, its your fault you worked "without pay" so stop the crying!!!!!!!  You should never have on forward without the paperwork!!!  Phaedra, you whipped out the paperwork upfront when dealing with Shere..so why not here? You both were in the wrong! Learn from your mistakes & move on!

Kenya met with Phaedra to discuss the possibility of a business deal. In no way should Kenya be compensated for her time. It s called business and Phaedra had every right to shop elsewhere.

    Everyone,

    Please observe the following:

    1. This episode was taped months ago. Since then, Phaedra and Apollo have started Nida Fitness, have been featured at national fitness expos and their DVD is selling off the shelves.

    2. Kenya (as we see in the preview for the next episode) plans to produce her own "rival" DVD. To date, nothing has surfaced, even months after this episode was filmed.

    3. Kenya has now put out a song for her infamous phrase that will likely be played in specific club settings and theme parties. This can be viewed as a great detractor from her failed attempt to get engaged, and as reported, a farce from the beginning. She was indirectly caught in that lie by Ms. Leakes, who pointed out the discrepancies in Anguilla.

It is quite clear what is happening. Kenya got caught in a lie and is now trying to discredit anyone else whom she interferes with. Remember, Phaedra was the one who was helped dry her tears in Anguilla, making her an easier target for manipulation. While this is all very entertaining, we must be mindful of the past of Kenya Moore- she is an actress. This is what she does, for a living. Unfortunately, it is at the expense of Phaedra who I trust has something up her sleeve if anything major ( Kenya's DVD) were to occur.

Though she tried to paint it as if Phaedra was trying to get her to work for free, that wasn't the case. Phaedra paid her (or planned to pay her) a set fee for work done, but Kenya wanted a back-end cut for finding them a distribution deal (which Phaedra wasn't even ready for her to do), meaning she'd make money off of the video for life. as stated on other blog site!

    Pay attention.

so did phaedra pay her for the work she did?  yall need to stop making excuses for shady phaedra...   she's a professional snake.. just embrace her flaws.

    yolsmoo87 275 pts

Phaedra, why did you volunteer The Bailey Agency for tryouts for your Donkey Booty video without confirming with Cynthia first?  Just because she's your friend doesn't mean that you can automatically volunteer her services without informing nor paying her.  That was dead wrong of you.

    SoOverIt 1210 pts

     yolsmoo87

Kenya volunteered the Baily Agency to Phaedra and Apollo at the gym.  What show are you watching?  Phaedra just agreed with her.  Kenya even said Cynthia's fee was included in Kenya's budget which I'm sure Phaedra didn't have a problem with.  It was Kenya asking for 50% and a 10% back end that the lawyer and Phaedra never ever discussed that was shady.  Anybody in their right mind would have said "hell no" to that lopsided deal.

    yolsmoo87 275 pts

     SoOverIt

Phaedra should've still confirmed with Cynthia first because it's Cynthia's business that they wanted to use for the venue.

Phaedra is educated but it was dumb for her to call her buttock video "donkey booty", we as black women should be proud of our ample buttocks, but for her to label it such a degrading name i'm disgusted. And the way she tries to manipulating people to do what she want, she has no class. Kenya is annoying but she deserve a finder's fee, never do business with friends. And her bitching about wanting to be married is exhausting. I love Nene she is revolving into a A-List actor i'll be glad to see her leave rhatl. Porsha is annoying. cynthia is boring. Kandi is boring.

I think I'm on the fence with this one. On one side, Kenya jumped the gun and secured a distribution deal by name-dropping (Phaedra's of course) and then wanted back end. Ok, if she had waited til the appropriate time when plans were finalized and given the GO... OK! Yes she deserves that 10% of the deal she secured. HOWEVER, since Phaedra did not give the Ok from what we saw to start shopping a deal... Kenya doesn't deserve back in. Now was Phae Phae wrong for going to Todd, Not necessarily because they didn't have a concrete agreement. She basically got a second opinion and I would have too. Who in the hell (in their right mind) is going to do a darn workout video with a budget of 100 stacks... Kenya must be smoking them tracks she fill in her hair with lol! NO MA'AM Miss Kenya!!! And on top of that, Kenya was DISRESPECTFUL yet again, going behind Phaedra back speaking with Apollo. You already have a lil bad history, there are certain lines that desperate SINGLE women shouldn't cross with MARRIED men. JMO and Kenya obviously isn't aware of her boundaries. BUT good ol' Kandi B. got her together real quick. #1 You will not come out yo' mouth sideways bout her friend #2 You will not bring up yo' petty asz nonsense at Todd party. BayBay Kandi said "I will F... her asz up bout my man!!!" Darn right! Go in Kandi and let have! (Funky Dineva voice) Kenya betta kool it down and tread softly cause Phaedra still on this "Southern Belle" ishhh but she barkin' up the right tree with Kandi.

Shout Out to Cynthia for always being right on time with the side jokes... "Back End" joke... HIGH 5 CYNTHIA!!! Not too much from Porsha this week but I still love her and I love that Blue and Black dress NeNe wore on set... YOU BETTA WORK NENE!!!

A common tiresome theme in these shows seems to be the non contractual disagreements....Atlanta seems to milk this every season...it is getting tiresome to watch...whenever there is any business collusion, we see the same ole...same ole..every season someone finds out Phaedra isn't the smart attorney she tries to portray...and bammmm..there is the ammo needed for a lively reunuion.....and then we wait for next season for it to happen again....boring......the longer the hw shows playout, the more contrived the plots become, till you just feel like you are watching a soap....if it were not for the re airings most viewers would never watch....I have tuned into Honey Boo Boo, because I know she is real......sorry Atlanta, you are no match for Honey Boo Boo...

    Nastybaby 1355 pts

FlutterBy "no match for Honey Boo Boo"?  LOL!  Priceless!  I don't watch "Honey Boo Boo", but I agree with you that there is the recurring theme of 'business amongst friends gone bad'.  Phaedra wrote in her blog that she and Apollo researched five other production companies; if this is the case, why didn't she mention this during filming?

    SoOverIt 1210 pts

     Nastybaby  FlutterBy

I love me some Honey Boo Boo too but can catch her "On Demand."  But as far as Phaedra not bringing up the other production companies, she did mention that to Kenya.  The only thing Kenya needed to do was submit a "revised" budget like Phaedra's lawyer asked her to but since she didn't because she wasn't going to get what she wanted by demanding it, she squashed the deal.  Kenya is broke and thought she could get over on Phaedra and Apollo and was mad that Phaedra got her lawyer involved. Ain't nobody going to hand over $100K to noboy with a lawyer, a contract, and a notary involved.

    Nastybaby 1355 pts

SoOverIt  Thanks for pointing out that Phaedra told Kenya about shopping.  Truthfully, I was multi-tasking when I watched this episode and never had a chance to re-watch.  I had a chance to re-watch a bit of the casting call meeting.  When I saw it, I thought, "why would Kenya keep a casting call if she wasn't happy with the overall deal?"  Why didn't she go back to Phaedra, PRIVATELY, to discuss this?  It was just so...unprofessional.  I also think this is why Phaedra's story may be more credible than Kenya's...not completely convinced that Phaedra is 100% blameless, but Kenya doesn't know how to handle things very well.

Phaedra was wrong, which normally would be ok, but as she calls herself 'A successful entertainment lawyer" its not ok that she didnt know better here...

Also she DID say she didnt want to pay anything and wanted it for free (to Apollo at the party after he spoke to Kenya)!

Kenya's fee is certainly a "friend-fee" as industry standard is much much  higher. And if Phaedra is an entertainment lawyer - and a good one - she would know that!

    whenbored 414 pts

Metts Wrong... Pheadra didn't want to pay her on the back end.  She was to get paid for production ... or filming and editing of the video.  The distribution was something Kenya put together that Pheadra was not aware of until Kenya brought it up. Kenya did not present her proposal on paper as Pheadra asked.  Pheadra did not say she would not compensate her.. she just said she was not going to give her any of the profits!

    Metts 170 pts

@whenbored it doesn't change if Phaedra were to use the deal Kenya should get her percentage for procuring it. It's pretty standard. And it's also good business ethics with or without an agreement in place....

Phaedra was clearly trying to get over on Kenya. She claims to be an "Entertainment Attorney" so she had to know that there is no production company in existence that would do this video and not expect a cut. I've always thought Phaedra was shady and disingenuous. I feel sorry for Apollo because he clearly wanted to speak up and defend Kenya, but he obviously couldn't afford to bit the hand that feeds him.

    susanzavagli 961 pts

Knowing Phaedra there had to be a contract between the two parties....or did Kenya just leap ahead expecting a deal...she did that with Walter........I do think she derserves some compensation for her effort and hire a lawyer the next tine she enters into a business venture.

    Daisyatl 484 pts

susanzavagliThat is exactly what Kenya did. She should have looked at the situation before she dove head first into it. Phaedra didnt have a contract with Kenya hence no obligation to use her services! Business 101!!

    Purple86 928 pts

Using that same rational, Phaedra did not have a copyright on the exercise video concept so it must be ok for Kenya to make her own video.  Turnabout is fair play.

I have to side with Kenya, Phaedra is dead wrong, I remember when Sheree wanted her to represent her and she wouldn't do it until she got that check. Now she wants a handout...... Kenya offered you a reasonable deal Phaedra why you trippin?

    SunShyne_in_Florida 1135 pts

Does anyone recall the debacle between Phaedra and Sheree.

Sheree asked for Phaedra to aid her in a court proceeding for child support.  Sheree thought that Phaedra was aiding her for free.  However, Phaedra tried to explain to Sheree that she does not work for free, and there were court cost associated with her representation, which was approx. $5000.

So, why is Phaedra expecting Kenya to work for free.

Anywho, someone needs to explain to Phaedra the difference between "genetics and working out".  This workout video will not take the place of "Insanity" and other workout videos that are currently being marketed.  All that junk in the truck is genetic fat waiting to spread. SMH.

    Nastybaby 1355 pts

SunShyne_in_Florida I remember well.  I also remember that Phaedra was out witted by Bob, Sheree's ex.

As a friend, I look out for my friends, and the majority of them at one point or another have worked in my business.  Now, when Phaedra and Kenya claimed to be friends, the restraints were removed.   Kenya was looking for Phaedra and Apollo.

In a southern motion, Phaedra nodded her head t number of times with Kenya's suggestons.  It was up to Phaedra to tell Kenya to slow her roll.  Yet, Phaedra did have expectations that I thought went beyond the call of friendship.

Both women did not establish boundaries on what to do and/or what not to do.  Friends tend to forget about the professional lines.  Remember  Kandi experienced the same thing with Kim.

We expected more from Phaedra.  Instead, she acted like hood and ignorant.  She should act like a professional at all times.

I wonder why Phaedra did not go to Todd in the beginning.  She did not seem to really respect Kenya before the meetings, so she should never have held the meeting at all.  Phaedra has been very two faced.  With Kenya, "what we see is what we get".  Even though I don't agree with Kenya on many things, I think she is trying to handle her business and Phaedra was just trying to get a free handout.

    susanzavagli 961 pts

I don't think Phaedra was kooking for a freebie she was looking to negotiate a deal that would work for both of them...Kenya blew it by storming out not very professional......all of this should have been discussed before Kenya started the endeavor

When Kenya gives Phedrea the production estimates, doesn't she put her fee in there? If I were producing the video, my charges would be up front. The back end fees would come on top of that. Why would Kenya do any work before having an agreed upon amount and a signed contract????

    Ask Kandi...

When friend are doing business with friends, they do not think before leaping into spending their valuable time and money.  I totally agree with you, but I think Kenya trusted Phaedra too much, which resulted into Kenya being maltreated or devalued for her work.
