The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills jet setters Kyle Richards, Lisa Vanderpump, and Erika Girardi all gathered in Mexico over the weekend to celebrate the opening of a local location of Mauricio Umansky's real estate firm, The Agency.
For the occasion, the RHOBH crew flew down to Punta Mita, a destination on Mexico’s Pacific Coast that has been a celebrity favorite — and seems hotter than ever this summer. Kendall and Kylie Jenner are among those who have holidayed at Casa Aramara, the posh pad in the area belonging to Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis. Kim Kardashian was recently there too, flaunting her assets in rather unsubtle fashion.
Sadly, Punta Mita also became the site of a tragedy last year, when Sheryl Sandberg’s husband died in a gym at a private villa, located near the Four Seasons Punta Mita.
The Four Seasons and St. Regis both have locations in Punta Mita: The St. Regis has a dramatic cascading multilevel reflecting pool from the lobby all the way down to the beach level, a spectacular indoor-outdoor spa — and baller butler service in its suites.
The Four Seasons has two sprawling private beaches, an infinity pool perched over them, and a fun lazy river; the all-ages resort is often considered one of the best for families in Latin America.
Apart from being a celeb-fave haunt, Punta Mita is a posh beachfront area in the Mexican state called Nayarit. Sitting around the same latitude as Hawaii, weather is consistently tropical throughout the year.
It’s just a about 25 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, which is the nearest international airport to access the tony enclave. (However, there’s roadwork and traffic — so the drive could easily take an hour by car.) For Los Angelenos like Kyle, Erika, and LVP, the flight is easy peasy: It’s just less than a three-hour nonstop flight from LAX.
The Pacific Ocean rings Punta Mita on three sides, and nearby are the Marietas Islands: They’re famous for one of the most unusual and distinctive beaches in the world, only accessible by swimming through a cave-like entrance. They’re also known as home to a very cool bird known as the Blue-Footed Booby — which, yes, has bright blue feet.
As well, Punta Mita is an easy day trip to the charming town of Sayulita — just about 10 miles or a half hour by car. TV buffs — and surfer expats! — will easily recognize the town as the filming location of Bachelor in Paradise.
