Yesterday, Kyle Richards’ hubby Mauricio Umansky posted a photo to Instagram that we cannot get out of our minds. The spectacular shot shows a breathtaking snowy landscape, and in the caption, Mauricio explains that it’s a sprawling Montana ranch he scouted for a client. He hashtagged the post #loveyourwork, and it’s easy to see why!
Ovbviously Mauricio's client is getting ready to indulge some serious wild west fantasies. And we're so ready to do it too — on our next vacay that is. (We're still saving for that sprawling ranch.) At these resorts, you can channel your inner cowboy or cowgirl, and perfect your equestrian skills, all while enjoying luxurious accommodations and gourmet cuisine. And that's what we call winning the west.
1. Triple Creek Ranch, Montana
Triple Creek Ranch, located in the Bitterroot Mountain Range of the Montana Rockies, offers three different cowgirl-themed packages for adventurous, yet luxury-minded, women. In February, you can grab a group of girlfriends for a long weekend getaway with the Cowgirl Gourmet Getaway Package. As well as a cross-country horseback ride, you will enjoy wine tasting, cooking classes, an evening at the chef’s table, massages, yoga classes, and a special movie night.
From May 4 to May 9, Triple Creek’s Women’s Rocky Mountain Rendezvous will have you riding the Bitterroot Valley ridges and valleys in true working cowgirl style. You’ll spend your days checking fences and searching for wayward calves, or hiking, birding, or fly-fishing, while leaving evenings free to enjoy gourmet cuisine and fine wine in the ranch’s elegant lodge and cabins. Finally, in October, the ranch’s Klicks for Chicks program offers the opportunity to discover the last frontier of the Rocky Mountain West, venturing into deep canyons, over mountain passes and past crystal clear rivers. Perfect for those in need of the mind-clearing and restorative qualities of the great outdoors, you may surpass your own personal frontiers, too. All activities are for women only, but male pardners are welcome to tag along to the ranch and keep the luxury cabins’ fires burning while the women are out cowgirling.
2. The Resort at Paws Up
Here's a second option for the cowgirls only: From April 28 through May 1, the annual Cowgirl Spring Roundup at the luxury Montana ranch Paws Up offers a full immersion into cowgirl culture. The weekend’s activities include cowgirl skills workshops, in which you will learn to ride, wrangle, and shoot from honorees of the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, including freestyle reining champion Stacy Westfall. There will also be a special ranch photography clinic with award-winning ranch life photographer Barbra Van Cleve; trail rides and hiking over 100 miles of trails and 10 miles of private Blackfoot River access; as well as plenty of time for bonding around campfires. You can look forward to retiring to your Western-chic vacation home afterward, and to enjoying a well-earned dinner of refined ranch cuisine.
3. Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa
A stylish luxury resort deep in the Colorado wilderness, Gateway Canyons Resort will be unveiling an on-property ranch this spring. Palisade Ranch will offer the chance to live out your cowboy or cowfirl fantasies and to ride horseback or drive cattle through the spectacular American West when it launches on May 1. Ranch experiences include daily trail rides, ranching education, roping lessons, and historic guides through the very land that 19th century ranching families worked. If that all sounds like a lot of hard work, a treatment at the resort’s spa will quickly melt away any aches or pains. The Palisade Ranch program is available in five-, three-, or one-day packages through September 30.
4. Salamander Resort & Spa
Occupying 340 acres in the heart of Virginia’s horse and wine country, an hour outside of Washington DC, Salamander Resort & Spa offers a variety of horsey activities to really take your horsewomanship to the next level. Activities on offer include country rides, horsemanship lessons, horse communication workshops and yoga on horseback. EquiSpective is their self-discovery program, which aims to foster a closer relationship between horse and human while developing skills that you can take back to your normal work and personal life away from the stables. The program works to develop extensive leadership expertise, using a hands-on approach to connect with horses while exploring relationship awareness, communication style, and leadership techniques.
