Dutch American and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Yolanda Hadid made a pilgrimage back to her home country: Holland. (It's also where she took the ladies on a trip back in Season 5.)
This time, she made the trip to Amsterdam by train, along with daughters Gigi and Bella, after the whole crew had traveled in Paris together for the models' Victoria's Secret fashion show comittment. The train ride between the two cities is in the neighborhood of three and a half hours; and naturally, train travel is a popular option to get around Europe and explore its relatively nearby capitals.
The whole crew had a special opportunity to visit Yolanda's mother, "the one and only Queen of our family," she wrote.
Yolanda said that "peace filled her heart" as she strolled along the canals of Amsterdam. The Netherlands' capital has more than 60 miles of canals, plus about 90 islands, and 1,500 bridges. The three main canals were created way back in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, and they form concentric ribbons around the city.
While out on the serene and picturesque water, she felt "clarity" while "connected to my roots" at "home." The city's 165 canals were meant to facilitate trade and transport and grow the city. So tours for visitors are a popular way to see the region: Most canal cruises take around an hour, in which tourists get to check out Amsterdam's UNESCO-protected canal ring Other types of canal cruises include practical hop-on-hop-off versions, romantic candle-lit tours, and child-friendly options.
She sent her fans a love letter in the form of a colorful snap from one of the destination's local flower markets, abundant with daisies. For tourists, the Singel flower market is one of Amsterdam’s must-see, colorful attractions. The small shops are located inside a row of floating barges, a throwback to the era when flowers arrived in Amsterdam every day from the countryside by boat.
She also snapped an Instagram postcard of a weekend sunrise over Amsterdam's historic architecture, saying she felt "blessed." "Not perfect, but happy!" she mused.
With its windmills and drawbridges, and the Amsterdam School and cutting-edge modern design, the city has lots of architectural points of interest for building buffs.
