Get rid of Kim, Dana and Taylor, they are not very pleasant to watch. Seriously, they have no soul. More of Lisa, Adrienne and Brandi please!
Wow. How time flies. It feels like just yesterday we had our (off-camera) kick-off dinner with the cast before we began shooting, and now, here I am blogging about the finale. It’s been a wild and challenging year, but I am grateful that the audience has embraced the show so warmly.
I’m not gonna lie. We work very long hours in the reality TV world, and it’s a lot more fun to be on a hit show than one nobody is watching! So thanks to all you fans for tuning in each week!
About the finale: Once again, I have to give a shout out to our awesome crew, who never failed to amaze me with their constant ingenuity and creativity.
First, at the Tony Awards, we weren’t allowed to shoot at the Awards, and were surprised when Radio City Music Hall wouldn’t let us shoot the red carpet arrivals, which we really wanted to show off Kelsey’s big star turn. But Producer Christopher Cullen quickly solved the problem by having Kelsey roll down his limo window so we could hear the audience’s thrill of seeing him in person. And I am forever wowed by the final image of Kelsey and Camille getting out of opposite doors of the limo–so symbolic of what was happening with their marriage.
And now about that other limo ride… the one with Kim and Kyle. Major props to Camera Operator Beth Kochendorfer and Audio Mixer Jenny Green for capturing all that drama in the limo! If there was an Emmy category for reality camerawork, Beth would have won it hands down for her flawless work in that limo.
As for what was said in the limo, well, Kyle’s outburst was a long time in coming. Perhaps now all the people who think Kyle is too mean to Kim will understand her constant frustration with her sister.
Now, on to your questions!
Get rid of Kim, Dana and Taylor, they are not very pleasant to watch. Seriously, they have no soul. More of Lisa, Adrienne and Brandi please!
MaryinMaine & Jason B, I remember reading that Kyle went to Bravo asking for a RHOBH and offered up herself & the other cast members to be on the show. Bravo didn't go to her She went to them. This is how Dave explained it in his Blog!
Please, Dave, I heard that Camille will not be back. You HAVE to do everything in your power to get her to stay. It will be an unfinished story if she leaves. Like seeing a 'to be continued', but never seeing part two. Beg, borrow and steal if you have to, just don't let her get away.
People, can someone please tell me how to get to watch all of Episode 6 or whichever is the NY trip. I missed that one and can't seem to find it on the videos... Any suggestions????
Dear Bravo, It says here that I can add my comment, I hope that means it will be posted.
I just have to tell you in advance; I am more of a Top Chef person. I took a chance in watching RHBH because Kim Richards was a part of the cast. The season is over and I am left with several questions. Was this Kyle's show? Was she a part of the production? ...and, why did you film the finale the way that you did? Where is the production's character in all this?
I absolutely enjoyed Adrienne and Paul's segments, what a fun couple! Adrienne showed everyone what it's like to be a "centered" person; what a great role model.
I enjoyed seeing Kim, all grown-up! I am glad that we got to see some of the projects that she's working on/charities that she cares about. I look forward to seeing more of her in the future; but in film (she's too good for this show).
...so long Real Housewives of Beverly Hills production team; I gave it a look, but it's not for me.
I am afraid Kim will not return for Season 2. Please understand the viewers want her back. We don't care what Kyle said. Kim is the sister we support and we want her back. Bring her back with a friend that will support her and she will feel comfortable around. Kim is real. She is not fake.
I hope Kyle doesn't return. I don't know why she has so much power over you, Taylor and Lisa. The viewers liked her at the beginning but she is the most disliked housewife now. Well, Kyle and Taylor are the most disliked. I have a feeling Kyle will eventually write a "tell all" in a book or magazine. I wouldn't believe anything she has to say. Please please consider getting rid of Kyle and Taylor. Let us viewers enjoy the show...we will not be able to enjoy it if Kyle is still on.
Again, please bring Kim back and bring some of Kim's buddies with her. We don't care how much money Kim has, we just care about Kim.
This was the BEST Housewives show to date! I couldn't get enough of it. Half way through the RHOA I was dissgusted with the ghetto attitude from most of the "ladies" and stopped watching. I also had a hard time watching the last few episodes of the last RHONJ as well for the same reasons. Im looking forward to the next RHOOC but was surprized that Vicky came back. I'm sure this stir up alot of drama with the other women.
I hope you provide some kind of pre-filiming counselling to these ladies so that they understand what constitutes harassment and assault. I find it really distrubing to see women attack each other the way they do on these shows. Its almost like throwing water on a bunch of cats in a small room.
And don't forget about the Real Housewives of Kauai! We are definately an odd mixture here as well (plus filming here would be like a vacation).
I love Andy, he's the male version of Oprah. Of course he asked the question, and of course Kim was going to deny it. Good for Kim.It's no ones business. I've seen more drunk housewives dancing on tables, flirting in clubs. Kim was entitled to cut one loose on the season finale.I see her a little tipsy in one episode, and she's deemed an alcoholic. Ridiculous.I believe Kim. Kyle probably did finagle a house out of Kim when Kim was married into a wealthy family.
I would like to see more of the ladies at work. What is Lisa's day like with her restaurants or what is Adrienne's day like as the head of a multi million dollar company? I'd like to see Kim go on an audition, and Camille review ideas for her production company. Also Camille on Millionaire Matchmaker would be awesome!
HI DAVE, WILL THESE BURNING QUESTIONS BE ANSWERED OR ARE YOU DONE FOR THE SEASON ? NEED TO KNOW SO THAT I COULD MOVE ALONG. THANKS
GreatFallsVA: Wow, you nailed just about everything I was thinking when I read Dave's blog. I've never read his in particular before and I was shocked at his assumption that we would all see how much Kyle had been holding back all season. Huh!?! Read the other blog comments and you'll easily see a consensus of: 1) Viewers leithe love Kim or feel sorry for Kim, 2) Viewers hate Taylor, 3) viewers love Adrienne and Lisa, 4) tides have turned on opionions of Kyle and of Camille: Camille was hated, but now seen as more sympathetic after the final episode and reunion, Kyle was loved, but after the final episode and reunion, poeple have very mixed opinions on her NOt that Dave has to agree with most viewers, but it makes me wonder how dazzled he became with certain personalities, he lost his objectivity completely. No one could seriously make the conclusions he did regarding the sister fight
I would love to see Kim come back to the show....but I certainly wouldn't want her to if it means being around people who are toxic..meaning Taylor. The whole dynamic just did not work. Kim and Kyle will work things out. I'm sure there are many lessons that they have learned through all this and hopefully they will become even closer in a healthier way.
I'm not sure if you will still be addressing everyone's questions after the reunion and lost footage episodes but I hope so. I have one question that truly makes me mad at myself for even thinking about it over and over as often as I have.
We all know about Camille calling Faye out for remembering she did Playboy - then at the reunion show, Camille stated the reason she did was because she had heard that the girls all were looking at Camille's past porn/Playboy on Kyle's Blackberry on the way TO the party.
However, in the original episode, Kyle, Kim & Faye all rode in one limo and Taylor, Adrienne and Lisa all rode in another limo over to Camille's. Then it showed the ladies all leaving to go to for drinks after and Kim was in her own limo.
But now, during the lost episode show last week, it showed the ladies all in one limo - sans Camille - on their way out of the party, talking about the psycho DuBois and then the Blackberry showing Camille's past being passed around, which is obviously after since they are talking about the party and how horrible Allison was.
So ... how is it possible that Camille found out about the ladies looking at the history of Camille before the ladies all rode in the limo together leaving Camille's ?
Is there a way you could address this? My husband would sincerely appreciate it since it may bring my focus back. :)
Hi, Well, when is Season 2 going to start? We can't wait. Is it true Sylvester Stallone's wife Jennifer will be the new RHOBH? I'd love to see more of Sly. And I'm sure the Housewives would too. That would be fun. You and the ladies did such a great job with Season 1. I liked the D.C. Housewives too. Did the couple who crashed the White House Party go to jail? I never heard. They should have. Hope you're well and having fun too. Let us know the scoop please? xoxo
LisaMarie, I agree with you that it was a sensitive topic to broach when Andy asked Kim if she was an alcoholic, but since it was mentioned on film, he kind of HAD to ask, he's the interviewer.
Dave, I am a RH fan. I have watched every episode of RHWOBH and many several times over. I have analyzed all of the women's behavior. As a stay at home mommie I have the time. As a lawyer I am always intrigued with human behavior and the motivations for wrongdoing. It was completely lost on me that you would defend Kyle's behavior against Kim. She exposed a very personal and private problem (assuming it's true). She physically attacked Kim and had to be held back by two people. While she was doing so, Kim shouted to Kyle drinks all damn day. Kyle was trying to shut Kim up in that limo ride, that was obvious to many viewers. Kyle went on the air in several interviews to placate the public by saying that she and Kim are doing fine now. Why on earth would we be convinced of anything Kyle would say as she is the aggressor in the situation and Kim the victim? Kyle has ever interest in the world for the public to be convinced that Kim has completely forgiven her...so that perhaps we, too, would forgive her. I don't think you get the fact that we don't care if Kim is an alcoholic. What matters to us more is integrity and character and heart, which Kyle has shown is woefully lacking in her and which Kim has shown an abundance of. I was sick to my stomach watching the finale with Kyle lunging at Kim. So but a handful of people would understand your defending Kyle? Kyle had the utter audacity to say at the reunion show to negate Kim's assertion that she bought the family house with her child actor's income. Is Kim then an all around poker face boozer and liar? And Kyle the martyr sacrificing her life to take care of her older boozer sister? Hard to believe that since she has a snake-fork tongue and an anxiety-ridden, OCD-ridden, regulatory disorder-ridden personality which comes out as sheer mean-spiritedness. So what gives Dave? Why so soft on Kyle? Do you both share the same religion? Do you both worship at the same Temple or church? Do you both have mutual friends? If you upset Kyle and she leaves, does the RHOBH end because Kyle's the ring leader? There must be SOME reason why you would choose to be the stand alone guy defending the indefensible. At least Andy addressed the Bully Question with more fairness by pointing out that Kyle is indeed the dominant one in each confrontation with Kim and that it never comes across as playful but mean and serious. Let me tell you one last thing - if Kim leaves RHOBH I don't think I can watch the show. Watching Kyle beat up on Kim so much left me sick to the stomach. Watching Kyle take over the Reunion show and defend herself so vehemently with nobody to go head to head with her and ask her the really tough questions also makes me sick to my stomach. Watching her foot soldiers Taylor and Lisa hold Kim down while Kyle beats up on Kim also made me utterly sick. Kim is the only breath of fresh air on that show, alcoholic or not. And from reading all your blogs, I'd say I'm not alone in this opinion. So please try to get Kim to come back by at least allowing her to bring one of her good friends on the show too. Kim is outnumbered by all of Kyle's thugs. Kim needs an outspoken, smart friend on that show who can take on Kyle and her thugs. I'd move to California to help Kim out. :)
I just want to ask you a question: Why was Taylor not effectively confronted at the reunion? It seems to me she got off easy after instigating every confrontation that happened between Kyle and both Camille and Kim. Andy did not ask Taylor the right questions to make Taylor see her involvement in all the turmoil that occurred during season 1. I am sure Kyle spoke to all her friends, behind Kim's back, about Kim's problems and all the housewives (except Camille of course) sided with Kyle. I noticed that even Adrienne showed an animosity toward Kim at the reunion part 2. What is Kyle telling these girls about her Sister?
PLEASE, we all want to know the websites for Kim's jewerly line, as well as her water bottle line. On all the other real housewives shows, their businesses have been promoted, why not Kims?? I feel Kyle really put a damper on Kim's jewerly line when it was intraduced during the New York trip, Kyle might not want Kim to succeed, but we do!! Please post her websites!!!
Natasha dear...regarding the "schmuck" who treated the "ladies" politely and respectfully on the reunion shows... Andy is like the executive producer of all the kingdom of Bravo housewife shows! He IS smiling all the way to the bank = )
Although I swore I would not commit to another group of RH...I did grow very attached to viewing the lives of each of these women...especially in awe of Lisa and Adrienne. I strongly feel that the RH of Orange County has run its course, DC was a total flop for me and NY will not be the same without Bethenney. "Hot"lanta is a complete riot and I am eagerly awaiting a Danielle free NJ and hope for the return of Dina. Thanks for the entertainment!
Clearly, that reunion show should have been filmed after the last episode b/c the tone and questions did not appropriately mirror the opinions of the viewing audience by the time it aired. Camille may have been hated initially, but after the finalle, I'm pretty sure Taylor topped the list, and viewers were becoming much more sympathetic toward Camille, who dare I say it, seemed likable in post-show interviews. In addition, Kyle, a fan favorite in the beginning, was rapidly losing her fan base following her treatment of Kim, which culminated in that awful scene in the limo. I'm sure you have your own production reasons for filming things in the timeframe that you do. However, it made for reunion shows that seemed a bit out of sync with the viewing audience.
I totally agree. Kim constantly tells Kyle she loves her but Kyle sure does not return the "feeling". Kim is harmless and has a much sharper memory than any of them give her credit for, but then she did have to memorize scripts so she has practice. She is a doll and so what if every once in a while if she has a bit much to drink, I see wine poured non stop through every show except for Adrianne.
The host of the Reunion show was awesome! He was humorous, relateable, and great at confronting the ladies with respect. Bravo Bravo Channel! Give that man a raise!--after all he was the "poorest schmuck in the room".
Dave -- I enjoy your blog but have a question for you. I was actually waiting to post this until I saw the finale of RHoA so I could compare. At the end of the BH finale I was surprised to see the freeze frame photos chosen for each of the ladies, which were unflattering or silly, and the associated update text. To me, both seemed mean-spirited as compared with other franchises of the RH (which tend to use flattering stills and text), especially given the intense fight we as viewers had just witnessed between Kyle and Kim, and the overall emotional nature of the entire finale. I'm curious why producers chose to change the usual finale-end format for BH?
Where has Kathy Hilton been in the whole Kim/Kyle relationship? Kyle, as the youngest, has taken on the role of 'mother' to Kim and never once have I heard her mention that her older sister, Kathy, has helped ease her burden in dealing with Kim's alleged alcoholism. It seems that both Kyle AND Kathy need to be there for their sister. It seems as though Kyle is the only one in the family that has stepped up to the plate to help Kim. (I may not agree with HOW she deals with her sister, but at least she hasn't abandoned her.)
Has Kathy helped?
If there is a season 2... It is my opinion that Taylor should not be asked back to the show. Twice, on film, who knows how many times when the camera's were down she THREATENED Kim. If I were Bravo I would be vary wary of putting the two of them together. If Kyle reads these blogs she too needs to take heed and keep Taylor away from her sister. I was disappointed that Bravo focused more on Kyle than Kim. I see Kyle turning in "Jill Zaron".
p.s. why does Bravo not post all comments-even if they are kind...
I am very surprised that Andy would ask Kim, on national tv, if she is an alcoholic. People with addiction problems have a hard time admitting to themselves they have problems let alone announcing it on national tv. It just goes to show how little informed Andy and the rest of the cast are about addiction. Kyle should go to a meeting for families with addiction problems and get informed and then maybe she would be able to get her sister the help she needs. Kyle first has to understand, though these meeting, why her sister is in denial. I also believe Kim has social anxiety. Taylor and Lisa are not a good support system for Kyle. Friends don’t publically humiliate another friends family member and expect good to come from it. I am very surprised that Taylor doesn’t know better with dealing with her charity. If I were the charity that Taylor is involved with I would have to rethink her involvement. Taylor was eager to bring out all of Kims weakness, issues and wrong doings. Would Taylor do that to the women seeking help from the charity she is involved with? I would say probably not, then why does she have so little empathy for Kim who is her best friends sister. The only things comes to mind is she is mean and self centered. Kyle needs to stop telling everyone that will listen how hard it is for her to deal with her sister. Kyle also needs professional help and has to become more informed. If you love and want to help your sister as much as you say you do then do it and know that Kim will not always be able to do things the way you want it and she will have set backs. If Kyle doesn’t get her resentment and anger out of the way then she will not be a help to her sister. This will only make Kim feel worse and she won’t be able progress. Kyle your friends need to stay out of your family issues and if you need to talk to someone talk to a counselor. Kim did a good job in not rehashing the fights with her sister and wanting to move forward. I was very surprised with the fact that she did not put Kyle in the negative. At the end of their little segment, Kim said to Kyle I love you but Kyle did not say anything to her sister. I hope Bravo does not prey upon the problems of Kyle and Kim in order to have good programing. You need to be responsible with your editing and questioning. I enjoy the show but remember these people are real.
PEOPLE: Part 2 of the reunion is tonight, and even though it was taped before the finale aired, they had all seen it and will address everything.
It's been pointed out by a few (not just Kyle) that she was the first one cast and they took her recommendations (like Camille) in casting the rest of the show. Sorry this seems to bother you, but it's just the truth.
Taylor: Suggesting that others "dragged you in" makes it sound as though you are powerless in the situation. Someone else makes you do it. Is it the voices? Perhaps it is your "victim of domestic violence" issue that causes you to remain in the victim role and point to others as the bad guys. I liked you and then I stopped. Superficial. In-authentic. Lonely, are words that come to mind with you.
Kim: Doll, you are stuck in the victim role. Forget Kyle, Taylor, and everyone else. Climb your way out of that role and work on your conflict avoidance issues so that people cannot narrow in on your weak points .. so that Kyle can no longer bully you .. so that taylor cannot build a rift between you and your sister .. so that the man of your dreams will find you, for real this time. If you do so, you will come out of it empowered and in control. You are a sweet person and I can see that the Hollywood up-bringing came at a real personal expense for you. I am sorry for that. Misunderstood. Wounded. Needing self love, are words that come to mind with you.
Kyle: You are a raging bully. You used to be a fan favorite, until you allowed your anger and resentment to make you the bitter pill that showed up. Yes, that is your sister and yes, not all sisters are good ones but if it is true that she bought you your first house and car, consider this your helping her BACK for the help she gave to you first. If she indeed has a drinking problem, support her so that she can find her way out. YOU are not supposed to keep her there by criticizing and belittling her. When you were “casually walking by and heard your name so you ever so gently inquired”.. you actually looked like a wild animal pouncing on its prey, in this case your sister. If you truly want to help Kim go to Al-Anon and learn how not to enable her and how to give her back to herself with love and kindness. When you do – you will actually improve YOURself. “we think we feel the way we feel because of what we’re not getting when in actuality, we feel the way we feel because of what we’re not giving. Self Absorbed. Self imposed. Empty soul, are words that come to mind with you.
Camille: "They made me look/sound/feel/say", someone else is to blame for all of those individual confessionals where you alone said the things you said. You came across delirious, acutely spoiled and dis-associated from anything real. You can only blame editing and other people for so much. I feel sorry for you, even with all $50million dollars. Empty. De-void. Shallow, are all words that come to mind with you.
Adrienne: You are empowering to women. My absolute favorite moment is when you described that you keep all of your finances separate from your husband. You stand for something and you stand on your own. You have an identity and are doing something with your life - not absorbing somebody else's. Thanks for doing the show. Self made. Power. Strength, are words that come to mind with you.
Lisa: You have exceptional people skills, a good heart and it is refreshing to see someone like you in Beverly Hills. You have a wicked and subtle sense of humor that really carries the show. You don't blame, you are honest about your feelings, you roll up your sleeves at the restaurants, you have exquisite taste and I would love love love to see you on your own show. You are a real lady with a fantastic, hard to find edge to you. Sophisticated. Appeal. Good friend, are words that come to mind with you.
I agree with FTWTX. Also, Kyle's comment about "bully" being the new buzz word struck me as condescending. Kyle IS a bully and the majority of the viewer's opinions will not change until SHE changes her dreadful behavior toward her sister. I truly wish you wouldn't sign Taylor for a second season. There is something about that woman that is truly threatening. I don't believe I'll be able to watch her if there is a second season.
Is Kyle a producer of this show? If not, she certainly acts like it. If she appears in the second season, please ask her to stop playing with her hair. All season, she had her hands in her hair and it was very annoying. Either pull it back or cut it.
BRAVO needs to quickly take action against Kyle's statement that "Bullying is the buzzword of the moment"!!! How dare she??? Kids are committing suicide over this and for Kyle this is a "buzzword"? And BRAVO just sits there and condones this?
BTW no one is fooled by Kyle or Traylor. Who has a bigger Jesus complex than Kyle - poor me, I look after my sister all the time, poor me. The only reason she doesn't like Camille, who is becoming much more likeable, is because Camille is out-Kyling her. Takes one to know one. And yes, viewers do think Kyle is a bully. Quit excusing her disgusting behaviour.
If those two remain on the show, no one will watch, that's for sure.
I've really enjoyed your blogs. The mechanics beyond producing the show are interesting. That you are a writer explains why we love these human dramas as much as we do. Very good story telling!
I would like to know if the producers ever actively prevent certain things from being show on air. For example, Kyle, Lisa, and Taylor have said repeatedly that they are "all tired of Kim's drama" but from what I've seen, I haven't seen Kim instigate any drama. Did Kim cause drama for the wives that producers decided to not show?
Did she cause drama for the production crew? If so, was it not shown because it really wasn't a "housewife activity", e.g. socials, birthday parties, shopping, etc.?
I'd like know the answers to better understand Kim and the other wives but also because I'm just curious about "production etiquette".
My posts never seem to make it to the boards, but I hope you read this and respond because it would answer many questions for me. Maybe you can do a post-reunion blog to answer some of these questions??? Many thanks in advance!
It's very apparent that Camille was set up by the producers to look like the "bad" wife during the season. In the reunion show (part 1), a LOT of time was devoted to telling Camille all the negative things people were saying about her (again, to make her look bad on camera).. but when you read the blogs, she's actually one of the more popular ones on the show... Taylor and Kyle are the ones receiving the bad press... I sure hope part 2 of the reunion does a better job of showing that.... time to leave poor Camille alone! Shame on you!
Dear Dave, The reunion show did not reveal anything new. My insight, came from Taylor when she said "THESE SHOWS ARE ABOUT CREATING DRAMA, AND THAT WAS HER JOB " This one statement reveals that ITS NOT REALITY TV.
No Dave, I don't see why Kyle is so mean to Kim! I watched every episode closely and nothing I've seen so far warranted Kyle's behavior towards Kim. In fact, it looks as if Kim was brought on the show to be the whipping girl. She has been ignored, belittled and screamed at for everything she says and does, with Kyle at the helm. At one point, Taylor turns to Kyle and says, "why don't we talk about her statement of mind". She expected Kyle tol side with her against Kim. Unless Kim has done so bad she should be destroyed for, I can't agree with your assessment, because that is what I see happening if she continues on this show. Kim is not equip to handle these women and Kyle is promoting herself by creating drama with and revealing her sisters problems.
That being said, the limo scene was not only shocking, it was cold hearted; and left me horrified and cold and thinking I won't be watching that show again.
Thank you for the interesting and informative blogs during Season 1!! It's terrific to get to hear additional information from behind the scenes. I really appreciated that you took the time to answer questions directly from the viewers. I'd like to take the opportunity to share with you directly how Taylor's comment from the Reunion Part 1 struck me... she called those of us who had shared negative comments "cowards". What?!! One of the things I love most about the Housewives shows are that we can read blogs and actually have the opportunity through these posts to share our comments. It makes us feel like we are able to interact with members of the show. I'm curious to know how you feel about her comment. Is that the general consensus? That viewers who post comments are cowards? I was offended by her comment and wonder how you and others at Bravo felt about it.
What I want to know is why Kyle kept screaming that she asked, invited, wanted Camille on the show. Was this whole show supposed to be based on Kyle? Did she actually cast it? If not, I think she thinks so. That would explain why she would bully the Camille about location shoots (i.e. Hawaii) where Kyle wouldn't be able to squeeze herself in the frame. It's a known fact that these chicks all have business plans based on this franchise and squabble for extra air time.
Oh, fyi -- I don't care that Kim is a drunk. At least she's not a puppet master like her sister. I think your casting strategy sort of backfired. No one likes anyone except the frail, damaged, kooky Kim now. I won't watch next season because I'm, sure it will be more of Kyle's Mean Girl Club. (Hey -- another spin off?)
Andy was NOT HARSH on Camille. Camille has driven her own bus on this show, and "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" aptly applies. Andy Cohen was merely asking her questions regarding her words and actions CAUGHT ON TAPE..
No questions, ONLY PRAISES for a job well done. Your blog is a wonderful addition to the Housewives' point of view. I enjoy learning of the behind the scenes stories on how to film a HIT HOUSEWIFE show. This is the best of them all. I look forward to continued success, and more BEVERLY HILLS HOUSEWIVES. Thanks Dave Rupel!
Dave, Do you know when we will be able to purchase items from Kim's jewelry collection? Will it be sold online or in stores?
