Catherine Ommanney

Cat's Corner

D.C. veteran Catherine Ommanney shares her take on this season of 'Wives, including of course, her fellow Brits.

February 3, 2011

Real Houseiwves of Beverly Hills was the first show I've watched from start to finish (other than ours in D.C.) and I have to say I was hooked from the first episode. Infact the wealth and the homes and faces of some of these women I found extraordinary, and of course the "plastic" was fantastic to watch!

It's funny how your opinions can change throughout the episodes and mine certainly did of a couple of the cast.

Camille: I found her so insufferably smug, and sickeningly self important, that I had to fast forward her when ever she came on. The way she looked down her nose at everyone. In fact that opinion didn't really change, but I did feel for her when she at last had a harsh reality check when Kelsey binned her. I think the whole experince of doing the show and the flack she has got since, will probably stand her in good stead, and I expect she will be more balanced and happy in the end (even with all her millions). I don't think she is a bad person, just spoilt beyond and a little out of touch with real life, until now. I bet she will end up better off happiness-wise.

Taylor: Mmmm. At first I thought she was quite a sweet, rather large-mouthed, lost puppy dog until the show really played out and her true colors were shown. I found the show where her daughter turned four quite sickening. Shocking in fact. Shopping for diamonds for a four-year-old? Give me a break! $65k on a party when all the girl wanted to do was hangout under a tree playing like any other four year old. That party wasn't for her, it was another, "Look at us and how fabuolus we are party." Anyway, her constant laughter, even when things are serious, began to bug me. And her s**t stirring? And as for her husband, Russell? Yawn...Well he has to be in the top five dullest husband of all time, in any Housewives show, surely?

Adreinne: Loved her and her man Paul. They are totally real, authentic, funny, considerate, and I really enjoyed watching her in all the scenes she was in! The dynamic between them was hilarious! She always spoke sense and was very down to earth and hard working. Great to watch.

Kat, come back!!! I live on the other side of DC in Maryland and I loved the DC wives...except of course what's her name??? Blondie....Michale or Michaela or whatever she calls herself these days...You had me laughing so much during the show....I also love Lisa on RHBH! I so understand your humor....love the sarcasm and love the bluntness and think every one needs to be so real.

Kat, I love you! Come back to tv!!!!

Budgie smuggler? You sound like an Aussie!

Love you Cat! I think you should take things up with Kyle, bc you would see right through her, and tell her so too :) Although, I think she would kiss your a@#, knowing you would :) Interestingly enough, you have not commented on her, not even good - tell sign to me, that you see right through her. Would love to hear you comment, not just one the softer BH (ie Camille), but the tougher ones like Kyle and Lisa - don't ya think?

Cat! You are fabulous. Can you please come back on one of the other Housewives shows? A few of these ladies could stand to be replaced.

You NAILED it! I miss you Cat and LOVED you on WWHL with the dreaded Luann. I still wish you'd move to NYC because you would be hilarious dealing with those women :) I hope you and your girls are happy. I follow you on Twitter and you crack me up.

Cat, I think that you should relocate to BH! Yes, I agree with most of the girls who commented, you are by far the most entertaining DC housewife, however, Stacy Turner was possibly the most friend-worthy, sorry, calling it as I see it.

I also think feel in my heart that we have not seen the end of you on Bravo network! You are such a fighter, and if I could, I would transplant you into BHHW for season 3!

Very nice to read how you view the BHHW, I agree with most of what you wrote, Adrienne is fantastic to watch...hope that Camille impressed you this season, she sure impresses me!

Be Well!

Loved your confrontation with the Countess. Who made her the expert?

Thanks for not holding back on Luanne on WWHL. Loved it!!

The jury is most definitely still out on you, Cat. Watching RHODC were not only catty towards eachother BUT you kept making unpleasant remarks to all the ladies at some point- only when they said something in return, you always felt that you were beyond reproach.. I hope to see a new Cat in the next season, everyone deserves a second chance.

There is no second season and I don't think she even lives there now. The jury is not out anymore, at least for people who read stuff!

Cat, love your blog and you are right on. RH of Beverly Hills is a great show and I hope there is another season of DC -- WITHOUT the Salahis!

cat cat cat!

so good to see you back! brilliant analysis of the girls in BH.

all the best to you. living well shall be your best revenge!

xo

Wit and beauty - Thanks Cat for the observations of the BH housewives .. I can see you really are a great fan of the show and I was thinking .. I would love to see how you interact with all the BH wives in person and think you should move to BH and join the cast!! Seriously, you would make a great addition with your great wit! Wouldn't the move be worth it just to distance yourself from Michaele!

I liked what you had to say and I hope you and your girls are doing okay.
As the cat in the tree would say "Hang in there". I started to understand you a little better at the end of the season. I hope that mean girl has distanced herself from you. I wanted to stand up and tell her to go have some ice cream in the kitchen by herself for a time out. Lol hugs to you!

i do agree with your opinions on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I have to admit though that the D.C. wives ,other then Michaele , were vicious! You all acted like you were back in high school-literally. I really hope there isn't a season two for the D.C. show.

Forgot to add that I hope RHODC comes back. I loved all the ladies (even Michaele WITHOUT her husband), but I appreciate how you cut through the BS, and DC always needs a lot of BS reduction.

Good to see you out and about in Bravo land. Your comments are interesting and still uncensored.

I think you are spot on about most of the ladies, especially Camille, Kyle and Kim. I liked Kyle in the beginning and still do, but I think she has gotten into a very bad pattern with Kim and I hope the two of them can work it out to change it. I agree that she has a temper issue in general which did exacerbate the problems with Camille.

As much as I can respect that Kim has issues she is struggling with, I can see that Kyle's on-camera attitude wasn't helping. I found many of their interactions very uncomfortable to watch because of it. I actually am hoping to see more of Kim if she is up for it. I think she has a quirky sense of humor that we didn't get to appreciate.

I too was glad that Adrienne and Lisa were around to add some sanity at some key moments.

Cat, SPOT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! You got right on all the ladies!

Cat, although the jury is still out on you, I did agree with your assessment of Beverly Hills!

Wow right to the point and spot on. Glad to see I'm not the only one that sees through Taylor's guise.

I totally agree. I feel the same way about all the girls but when I put commented on it, they would not print it and I said the exact same thing about Taylor. Oh well! I would love to hang out with you and Lisa!

Thank you. Well said. BRAVO!

Cat, you're my favorite DC Housewife. I love your honesty and outspokenness and your RHOBC comments are spot on. BTW- I have "Inbox Full" on my Kindle and I love it! I read the whole thing in one night cause I just couln't put it down. It's a really good read and I've recommended it to all of my friends. Can't wait to see you on the next season of RHODC!

EXACTLY what I think! I love that you just told it like it was! I hope to see D.C Housewives back minus those phonies...I can't even rememeber their names now but they made D.C painful to watch.

Cat - love your honesty and straight-forwardness and miss you.............by the way, you are so right - agree with all of your observances, and I will miss Lisa as well - she and Ken are my faves. Lia

Love your sense of humour. "Budgie Smugglers" - I literally rolled on the floor laughing. Only from a Brit.

You are the best. Hope you come back to D.C. You are my kind of "Housewife" (or is that "Wive") :-) Best

Great blog, Cat - your observations were spot on! Thank you!

Youy're not all that! You have to learn temperance, compassion, and the ability to see people who deserve more than your unrelenting smugness, relentess self-rightheousness and sanctimous self. You have your fans, but believe me, there are so many more of us who sees your cruelety rear its ugly head time and time again. I just don't think you're capable of any kind of compassion. You pretend, but it's not enough.

I agree 100% with Susanh... Well said!

Yes she is...........read all of the other post...that is sooooo telling as to how much Cat is loved.

Cat you are spot on, with the exception of kyle..I think she and her husband and are so down to earth. Russell..omg finally someone besides me thinks he is the biggest yawn ever!! I love Lisa..she is my favorite. Camille was the absolute worst..so conceited! Hope you are doing well and you were the most fun on DC.

I agree with you and I LOVE the husbands. I would love to see more of Ken, Paul and Marecio!! LOTS MORE OF HIM! haha and of course JIGGY!!!

Cat, I loved your review of RHBH. It was right on. You definitely nailed it with your opinions of the ladies. You are so refreshing because you call it exactly as you see it, no B.S. I agree with your low opinion of Taylor's party for her little girl. It was more like a party for Taylor herself. The party was designed with the adults in mind, alcohol, etc.. A party with simply a bunch of little girls would have helped her daughter to be less withdrawn. That child needed a smaller group with mainly children. The poor little thing was intimidated.

I completely agree with your blog! You are SPOT on!
Wish you could join another city of wives and get out of DC. Because you are a true character! :) A fun one!

Hi Cat,
I was so happy to see you posting. I also totally agree with your assessment. I went to Amazon to order your book and it says it is out of print. What gives? Are the DC housewives coming back? Are you coming back? I hope so, you were one of my faves.

I totally agree w/Cat's assessment of the HWOBH! Especially of Taylor! Can't wait to see Cat's lifestyle on camera w/o her very handsome & successful ex-husband!

Cat rules!
Taylor Sucks!
Adrienne's Cool

That is all...

Cat I'm so happy you gave your two cents on this season! I LOVED you on your season and I love your opinions on this one!

I love LOVED Adrienne and Paul...and she was so right about being "the norm not the exception" or whatever. It's so true! I've been with my boyfriend for three years and we bicker JUST like that but it's not because we're unhappy it's because we're comfortable and we're honest...that's what real couples do!

Lisa was hands down my favorite...I thought she really had her head screwed on straight because A. they worked hard for their money, B. they've been married for 30 years and know and love each other for all the right reasons C. she was always honest with the other women and D. she was hilarious, yet kind.

I always liked Kyle, but she was never my favorite for some reason or another...I kind of disagree about Kim because as a younger sister to a woman who isn't nearly as confident or strong as myself I understand Kyle's frustration. I understand how much anger she felt and the need to be so harsh with someone you constantly have to worry about...I could relate to her bullying because sometimes the person EVERYONE ELSE feels the need to be so sensitive to...is the person who needs the toughest love from a person close to them.

Camille...you hit it right on the head...I feel so need to comment...but Karma is a bit of a bitch isn't it?

Cat! I agree with all you said except I do not see Kyle as a bully. I see Camille as always playing the victim and never owning up to her part in the whole fiasco. I also see Kim as disloyal to her sister. She never said what she heard even at the reunion. She said the they were talking and exchanging pleasantries but then the next thing she knew someone was crying but who was crying she was not specific. She allowed her sister to be called a bully; but Kyle said I were my feelings on my sleeve and if someone confronts me about something I feel strongly about, I may say something that seems offensive to them, i.e. "you need help". Camille was accusing Kyle of being jealouis of her the whole season and the person that was really jealous was Camille. She saw how much Mauricio loved his wife and was jealous that she did not have that with Kelsey.

Cat, I absolutely loved watching you on DC. You were always so raw and genuine, and I loved watching that kind of unwaverable integrity. You had a wit about you that was always spot on, and of course, delivered with that great British humor. I think your take on the BH wives was just as spot on. I loved Lisa too, (and not because she's a brit) but because both of you are cut from the same cloth, and I never get tired of seeing honesty, and integrity all rolled up into that tongue and cheek in-your-face kind of humor. Can't wait to see you in the next season.

Hi Cat........went down to Barnes and Noble to get your book and they don't have it, nor is it registered....bummed! Was it just released on the east coast ? Where can we get it out on the west coast?? I'm really looking forward to it, could use a good juicy read with some inspiring life lessons, just my kind of book.
Blessings to you and don't be a stranger to use, blog when you can as you are always spot on and just plain old wonderful in my eyes.
xoxo

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Funniest blog ever! I thought your wording was amazing and too funny!! Bravo should give you, your own show!!

xoxoxo
Love ya Cat

Cat... so glad you are still around! I do have to say that I think that Camille is just as she was portrayed in the series. No one edited in the horrible things she said and did.... she looks bad because she was bad. Even if she was going through a divorce.. like many of us have. You included.. you were having a terrible breakup yourself, but did not treat everyone like crap because of it. Camille is not a very nice person and she attacked Kyle throughout the whole series and made herself look bad, not Kyle.

I am hoping you are coming back for sure to the RHOWD because you are the most honest and forthcoming of all the Housewives!

So nice to see your smiling face & read your witty comments. I look forward to your return soon!

You ROCK, and are spot on with this cast. I hope you come back for the D.C. show!

you are dead on it. I feel the same way about all of the cast members. You nailed Camille!! Great blog.

Cat,
I really enjoyed hearing your opinion on the Beverly Hills Housewives. You are my favorite housewife on the HWODC, and I love how you tell it like it really is!
I love watching all of the Housewives franchise. I don't understand where some of the housewives amazingly rude and catty attitudes are coming from. I would never dream of having many of the conversations and attitudes that go down, with the housewives, towards their friends and family. Maybe that is why it is so entertaining for me to watch, & blows me away at the same time!
I ditto every opinion you had in your blog. Yet, I would just like to shout it from my rooftop, "how could Kyle for one, shove her purse over Kim's in the market shpping cart; two, put her down so harshly for something as stupid as butter over margarine!" From that point on, I thought Kyle was extremely intolerable to her sister. Then when she told her sister she couldn't be in the same car with her after the dinner from Hell, & Kim had to ride home alone in the limo, I almost cried for Kim, almost!
I did cry when fake, Shanna, I mean Taylor, picked a fight with Kim as a present to herself for her Birthday, & Kyle immediately assumed that Kim was at fault. Then proceeded to gang up with Taylor on Kim, which led to the ugliest fight I have ever seen between to adult sisters. The limo fight was unbearable to watch. In my opinion, it took the prize for the most ghetto way of acting of all of the housewives. Yes, low and trashy!
I've strolled around on Rodeo Drive a few times, & have seen many of these uber classy, sophisticated ladies, & assumed that they were well behaved & educated. This show proves to me that you can walk around like you are so high class, yet, behind closed doors, some of these housewives are very low and cruel to their loved ones, with no class at all.
I don't get Kyle, I can't figure out what is really going on in her world behind the cameras, but for once the cameras were rolling when her filthy mouth and tirade was filmed for all to see.
P.S. Cat if you could clue me in on your opinion on this topic I would appreciate it. Please write more blogs!

Melinda from cali....I couldn't agree with you more on Kyle. She had a need to beat Kim down at every opportunity, do you think it was jealousy that Kim was a much bigger childhood star? Whether you like Camille or not, Kyle treated her the same way. Constantly critical of "her husbands business partners, the Grammers) Kyle was just so insecure about other women that were more sucessful or might have exposure to her husband on a level she was not intelligent enough to compete on. Kyle througoh marriage was elevated to a level she is unable to function on an equal level with the other women. Sad!
