I absolutely love birthday parties, and celebrating the birth of my daughter is the best celebration of them all! Theme parties are always a favorite, and for Kennedy’s birthday, we chose a Magical Mad Hatter theme. I have always been fascinated by talented magicians, and Harry Houdini was the original. What better setting for a magical tea party then an estate bearing his name? The grounds are divided into multiple tiers, and each one offers something more unique than the last. The children were entertained by an unbelievable magician and a team of amazing fairies who dressed them in tea party attire and lead them in magical games. Kennedy adored the fairies and has asked they return for her next birthday. While I was toasting Kennedy’s birthday with the adults, the little ones were on a fairy led treasure hunt through the intricate grounds of the estate. The kids had a blast which is the best gift a mother could ever ask for.
This was one of the first exposures Kennedy had to the camera crews, and she was shy when they were around her. At the request of many mothers in attendance, I kept the cameras away from the children as much as possible and therefore the majority of the footage is of the adults.
As I mentioned, my grandmother gave me a ring with a tiny diamond in the middle when I was a little girl. My grandmother is no longer with me, but the ring and beautiful memory remain a part of my life. My childhood experience and the fact that Kennedy loves wearing Mommy’s jewelry inspired me to give her a special piece of her own. She wears her Barbie Rocks necklace on holidays and special occasions, and I hope she will treasure her first piece of jewelry as much as I do mine.
Although the puppy was not an agreed upon gift, he sure is cute! Lots more to come with the little furry fella.
The party looked amazing! I'm sure she had a great time. It is clear that you love her and want the best for her. It was fun to see you enjoy the party, too, instead of stressing out about it.
Your explanation helps because the editing made this look not-so-good for you, and very much like it was YOUR party. That was a super cute puppy!!
what a gorgeous party. if i could afford it, i would throw my little princess an amazing party too! you seem like such a sweet mom and person, cant wait for more episodes featuring you and your little one!
I'm sorry, but I think your party was way over the top for anyone, but so much more for a 4 year old. But if you felt it was necessary than that's your choice. I would hope that you donated $50,000 to a charity for children as well. Considering that in some countries $50,000 would feed a village for awhile. Also, if you didn't have all the pictures, publicity etc., your daughter would not remember this party when she is 20. This also became about you with the photo shoot that you decided to do. I guess I am from a different world!
Taylor - I'm glad you explained the background behind the party. It was very beautiful! I wish you were on hand when I planned my wedding, lol.
I think your explanation indeed helps explain the focus on mommy, not child. Although, let's face it, its the HOUSEWIVES show, and one expects the youngest of children not to face the camera much. It was an adorable theme,
I'm just a little bummed that I know editing is always the excuse, but you seem to really be on a different page than your husband. I think it's wonderful you are throwing Kennedy a fun party for her friends, but frankly the cost is out of this world!! Not something I approve up, but I guess when you have got the $, spend it!!
The party you threw would have been lovely for your daughters 9th birthday, but she looked a tad bit deflated when she saw what was on the table. You could have thrown a more childlike theme party for her and saved about 59,000 dollars. Puh lease...
Great party! If you and your husband are going thru yuff times - u should be a party planner! U seem very nice!
Hey: If you can afford it - why not? If you're Teresa from Housewives of New Jersey.....well thats totally different. She is a nutjob. It would appear you and your husband have legitimate wealth. The party was stunning.
The birthday party was beautiful and the necklace was a great touch. Something she will always have to remember her special day.
I love the theme party that you threw! I'm sure there was a lot of planning that went into it and I didn't think you needed to hire your friends. It seemed like all the ideas came from you and you were the one that ultimately executed the vision. Any thought on opening up your own event planning?
I could have paid ALL of my childs college tuition with all of the money spent on a party like that!!!!!!!!
My husband was watching this and wanted to throw up.
Too much, too soon for that age. The party was for Taylor. Glad your hubby can keep you happy with massive amounts of $$$$$$. And yes, the DOG was the best gift!!!!!!!! Kennedy will adore that pup,way to go Russell.....keep it real!!!!
Yeah this party was crazy....why waste so much? Just cause you have it seems a little silly, but to each his own I guess. I agree with most on here, too much to soon....I think that your little one would have appreciated it more on her 16th birthday.
The party may have been over the top for a 4 year old, but why would anyone care how much money was spent? That money could have gone to charity, but it went to the paychecks of florists, caterers, entertainers...the list goes on. This is how our country thrives! THe party was a success, mommy and daughter had a great day!
The party was lovely and beautiful... I didnt grow up with money, but if people want to throw a party for the child y not do it? Ur comment is highly rude, to say that ur husband was going to throw up? y? because they have the money to spend for it. What little girl wouldnt want a party like that? Just keep it real, if u had the money im sure u would have done the same. Remember if you dont have nothing nice to say than dont say nothing at al.. just sayin...
Your birthday party cost more than I make in two years working my full time job. Life is interesting... I will try to appreciate more of what I have, rather than covet. Watching this show won't help me with that problem, but it sure is entertaining! Anna
I love the party for your daughter! I wish my mother would've done that for me and the jewerly was fantastic. I love the show and think you, Lisa, Kyle and Adrienne are my favorite housewives of all of the shows.
To each his or her own. I thought the party was overkill for a 4th birthday party-maybe giving her a diamond at her 16th birthday would be more appreciated. Puppies are so much more fun at that age.
The party was spectacular and enchanting. The only issue I have is that Kennedy might not be old enough to remember such an amazing party. I would love it if my mom planned something like that for me. I know Kennedy will look back and smile when she sees the pictures. I think she'll grow up just fine if you keep your inner Oklahoma upbrining alive in Beverly Hills. Happy Birthday Kennedy!
Sometimes less is more. At age 4, Kennedy could not begin to understand or appreciate how very elaborate & expensive the party was...much less what a diamond represents & it's really rather sad you don't appear to grasp that. The puppy was at her level & should tell you something, tho you resented the attention it took from your diamond gift. The party featured you, overwhelmed your daughter & seemed to be more of an event than a true celebration for a 4 yr. old.
The party was beautiful, and you gave a lot of people, musicians, magicians, caterers, florists much needed employment! So thank you!!! Who cares if a lot of it was for the adults. As long as the kids had fun that's the most important thing. I think it was beautiful and folks who are complaining are just jealous killjoys. It's called "Housewives of Bevery Hills" folks! What, do we want them on a budget like the rest of us? That's not why we're watching. At least not why I'm watching. We want escapism. Remember Dallas and Dynasty? That's what this is!! The puppy is a bit worrisome, just because too many families get puppies without really thinking it through, because puppies are a lot of work, and it does indeed look like Taylor is gonna be stuck with a puppy that she doesn't want. So that part was cause for concern. I'd just say, hey roll with it and get really into puppy training, and get involved in dog clubs, cause guess what...youve got a puppy! And it might be good for Kennedy to get involved with dog care. Dogs are wonderful, do puppy kindergarten, look into obediance clubs and Canine Good Citizen, cause you've got a dog now lady!!! And they are wonderful family members if embraced. But if it's gonna be a big pain for you the whole time, look out, there can be no greater misery than an unwanted dog. Regardless thanks for sharing your party with us, it was pretty entertaining.
I agree with everything you stated about the party, JoyP. The party was inappropriate for a 4-year old. Taylor, you seem like a very warm and caring person - I truly believe that you have your daughter's best interests in mind - but this party was over the top even for Beverly Hills standards. The party seemed more about you than your daughter - she couldn't have cared less about the setup, the diamonds and the entertainment, especially when you posed for photos on the elegant tabletop! Please come back down to earth, Taylor! Throw her an elaborate party like that when she's 18!
Congratulations Taylor! What a fabulous party that you threw for yourself on behalf of Kennedy. Your poor husband. Just look at the way you speak to him. You should have spent the 60k on a nice necklace and beamed at the joy of your daughters interest in her new puppy. That my dear is what she will remember of her birthday and all that you could do is feel "overshadowed" and publically humilate and resent your husband for it. Classy.
I think your party was absolutely lovely, do not pay attention to the negative comments. Your daughter will look at pics later in her life and remember little snippets of it, I am sure. You have great taste and a great hostess. I actually think, as a dog lover, the puppy is adorable BUT it is a commitment for the entire family. Russell should have cleared it through you first, but I am sure you have staff to help you with the puppy training.
Again, lovely party. Look at it this way. No, they did not give it to charity, but a lot of local businesses profited from it. In down economic times, that is just fine. Nice job! LA Attorney
Your party was pretty darn fabu! That being said, the tension on your face when you saw that puppy was very very noticable. Almost to the point of hate towards your husband.
I just read that your husband filed for bankruptcy in 2005. Doesn't look like you two have learned the value of money yet. This is what's wrong with our country...so you got over $1 million dollars in bills cleared away...you never had to pay those bills and now just five years later you're spending over $50,000 on a birthday party for a 4 year old???
I totally agree, JoyP! And, Taylor, if you're concerned about raising Kennedy to be grateful (as you stated in a previous episode), showering her with ridiculously expensive, unnecessary gifts is not your best move!
Hi LA Attorney, I enjoyed your blog. I was wondering, since Taylor didn't mention the breed of the puppy on the show or in her blog, if you happen to know the breed? My husband and I thought the puppy was addorable and thought we would visit our local pound and even a special pound that has rescued dogs of certain breeds to look for our first dog. Please, if you know let me know. Or if you have any suggestions on a small, not yippee, lovely dog to adopt from the pound. Thank you for your time. cosmicgirllacoy
Taylor you are a gorgeous woman, I'm sure you know that.. but it makes me cringe to watch you throw yourself at your husband, and for what? He doesn't seem affectionate (granted, there are cameras), and he doesn't seem very interested in you.. it's just painful to watch! I'm sure the editing process has a little to do with it, but you can't edit everything, so I just hope you eventually find what you are really looking for, though I suspect it is passionate love.
Your intro says it all, you're looking for more. Can't blame you.. money, luxury items, a comfortable lifestyle.. none of that can ever compare to the lifestyle of being passionately in love.
PS.. you ARE my favorite.. do YOUR life!!
Guess you should move to China where you don't have the freedom to make as much money as you can.. quit logging on to the internet to comment on how those with money spend what is theirs.. have you nothing better to do than research this woman? Oh, and apparently pay your bills?
Oh man, Bravo.. you knew this gold was coming. I'd feel bad for these women, but I'm sure they also saw it coming and could care less.
Dear Taylor, I love watching you live your beautiful lifestyle. You are so loving to your family and friends and every one. God bless you.
Haha aren't we a funny world, we all dream of "making it" (what ever that is to each of us) yet look down at people who have "made it". What Taylor spent on her daughter's birthday was about the same as what my hair stylist recently spent on her wedding. The difference was that Taylor spent within her means, my stylist did not and is now fretting about the bills.
The white dog given to her daughter is a Maltese. I am pretty sure you will not be able to find them in a pound as they are full-breed and run upwards of 1k usually but are definitely adorable! I own two and love them....although I will say that if you are not home and would not pay a lot of attention to them they are not the dog for you. They tend to pee in the house or misbehave if they are not paid attention to....a Shorkie (half shih-tzu, half yorkie) is supposed to be a great small breed! Good luck!
Taylor, you write you blog as if you didn't watch the same show that we, the viewers, did. The thing that I have learned from the all of the housewives show is that I try to not judge ANYONE too early. When your husband gave Kennedy the dog, I realized he may be the one who will let Kennedy be the star.
