BH Producer Dave Rupel discusses the most unpredictable moments of this week's episode and why he saw the fight coming.
Oct 11, 20110
Welcome back, viewers! I hope you enjoyed tonight's episode, which includes some of the best elements of these shows -- bling, humor, conflict, and heartfelt emotion.
As always, I'll answer questions from last week, as well as comment on other things I've seen in the blogosphere.
First up, the engagement of Lisa and Ken's daughter, Pandora. We shoot a lot of tense and dramatic things as part of our show (ahem, Game Night!), so it’s always nice when we get to see the nicer moments of the ladies lives and this engagement was definitely one of them.
However, the best moment of Lisa's story for me was earlier. Lisa was cooking in the kitchen and her son Max ended a phone call with a girl and said, "Love you, too." Both Lisa and Ken were shocked to hear their teenage son declare that. We like to call those moments "reality gems." Meaning, Lisa had told us she was going to cook for Jason's parents and they were all going to eat together, so that's what we planned to film. And since we had filmed Jason asking Ken for Pandora's hand in marriage, we thought there was a good chance that this dinner might involve some kind of proposal. So the reveal that Jason had already asked Pandora to marry him was a small surprise to us, but not totally unexpected. But Max's declaration of love? That caught everyone by surprise, and that's one of those things that make reality TV special.
Now, as for Game Night. Seemed like a pretty innocuous idea. When I first moved to LA, my friends and I used to regularly gather for game nights, so I was pretty excited for what we thought would be a fun and active night. Well, it did become active!
I honestly think Kim was the funniest thing ever tonight!! I laughed so hard at the things she said & did because you know that's HER! Between the Pam thing, "cleaning your house," and hiding the crutches, her quirky mind is on full display & I don't think she should make any apologies. It was also nice to see Kyle & Kim laughing at those things together.
The past two episodes are shocking ... truly the train wreck you can't stop watching. Lisa and Adrienne are my all time favorites. Kyle was also fun to watch until the past few episodes. Hoping you guys get Kim out of the mix. It is truly painful and sad to watch Kyle continue to cover up and take up for her sister's rude and irratic behavior. Having Kim on the show only showcases her obvious issues. Throwing Brandi and Dana into the mix is such an interesting clash of true class (Lisa and Adrienne) next to the polar opposite. WOW!!!
Before the start of this season, given all of the bad press that Brandi Glanville had garnered throughout and since her divorce, I had a preconceived notion of who she was and didn't think that I would like her dynamic on the show. Top that off with the fact that I liked both Kim and Kyle last season. Wow! have I changed my mind! I have raised 4 beautiful and respectful daughters and if I EVER saw any of them behaving in the way that Kyle and Kim were towards Brandi I would be beyond ashamed! All I could see was Brandi trying to keep a stiff upper lip while taking attack after attack from the bully sisters. I do have to say though that I believe that Taylor is onto something. There is something vulnerable, sad and telling about Brandi's self-deprecating manner. I really hope that Adrienne has the tenacity to stick up for her friend...with this group of "ladies" she is going to need it!
It is called BULLYING and it doesn't matter if your 40 or 14 it's wrong and should not be considered entertainment! Snide comments, blatant giggling and hiding crutches, what rational grown woman does that - might has well have been a back pack tossed in a garbage bin. The sisters acted like caddy High School girls and Brandi was the one they targeted and taunted, no wonder she snapped.
I have watched many season's of "The Housewives" from coast to coast but Bravo has lost a viewer. There is too much Life Imitating "Art" - suicides, drug use, money hungry, fame seekers ... I will be putting my energy into something more important - like setting a better example for todays youth.
These people just show that they suffer from the same malady that most of humanity suffers from and that is insecurity. They are insecure millionaires. There will always be someone richer, prettier, smarter, from a better family and once we realize how all of us are as important as those aforementioned folks, we would not have all this drama. We love these shows because they are mirrors. Dana/Pam's behavior was repugnant and then I thought how it also stems from insecurity. All of them are hurting.
Wow , I always skip to the blogs of the cast. I had no idea a producer had blog. Very cool. As a viewer I felt Kyle was on one (on crystal meth) I felt she was doing it with Kim in the bathroom because she kept going in with her and she was all hyped (when she wanted to play the "iQ" game) and I felt she was doing it at the snow trip with Kim AND Tayler. I think it's pretty gross stuff and feel bad that they would get lost in that kind of world. Also } how Kyle took over their moms house. How could you do that to your sister? I'm really not liking Kyle anymore. And now I'm starting to believe camile about last season . Well, I'm in the bay area and this world is just way better than anything down south. Up north I think we are more like Brandi , u see BS u call people out on it ASAP . Well , I look forward to reading more if your blogs:)
Love, goddessKrystle from san Mateo ca ~smooches~
I felt for Brandi and who uses that language like Kyle does and how does Kim fit in.Kim was rude to Brandi and really why was she in the bathroom. And for someone not to make a comment. Really? That was rude. i dont know anyone who comes to someones house and spends a long time on many occasions in the bathroom. That is really obnoxious. For Kyle to talk like that is really wrong!!!!!!
First of all, I have noticed that none of my comments are ever posted!
Secondly, I could not be a bigger RHWBH fan and I loved the women last season. I was so offended by ALL of the women at the Game Night Party...except Brandi. Kyle and Kim were absolutely appalling, as in hard to watch vs. good television. We all had a brief insight as to how very different/better these Beverly Hills women are than "us". Dana was ridiculous in her attempt to 'be accepted' and forgot her responsibility as a hostess to make sure all of the guest felt comfortable in her home. Camille and Taylor were too busy worrying about their images and their relationships with Richards sisters to see right from wrong. Kyle and Kim, the worst possible comment I can make to you is I have no respect for either of you! You are both in your 40's (after raising several young women) you STILL feel it is alright to treat someone you don't know well like that. Karma doesn't care how you were raised or where or how many homes were left to you or the crowd you run with or if your niece is famous or if you 'say' you are a good person or if you spin your stories when you retell them to others to make you look better....still doesn't make you look better!! Hey Bravo, we like watching the show because of the lavish lifestyles, bling, homes, etc. Not to watch disturbing mean girl behavior!
It seems that in every episode the women are drinking wine or other spirits.
I have noticed that some of them become MEAN DRUNKS such as Kyle, Taylor and Kim. Do you think that its a good idea to have them in an ALTERED STATE OF MIND ?
It was suprising to see Kyle's reaction towards Brandi. Since last season, I've been a Kyle fan from the beginning. If she's gonna turn out anything like Teresa has in New Jersey, I'd say this will be a pretty interesting episode.
i must say this episode was a complete disappointment...... in many ways.....
Firstly, the game night should have been edited to maybe 15 mins only.... there was barely any bling to tell the truth ( i have no idea how Dana got chosen as a cast member given the fact that her house was sooo empty; what does she have to offer as a person? she's pretty boring to me). there was a couple of other great shows to watch that same night, i don't want to name them, and i regret that i chose this episode of my fav show over them. honestly, it wasn't worth my time.
I felt bad for Brandi, i can't say that I like her though (again, what does she have to offer? not much... pretty looks, but once she opens her mouth...... anyways, get a new casting director, because by the looks of it it's turning into a cheap show
what can i say about Kyle.... i really like her. She's witty and classy, but not on the last episode
all in all, it was not an entertaining episode to watch. as someone mentioned in blog comments, Kyle is turning into Teresa G. :-(
Brandi seems to have a chip on her shoulder. She's a beautiful lady but her behavior takes the beauty away.... Seems she is waiting for a fight -- so I won't be surprised by what comes our way this season... Hopefully it's her last.
