Q: Pacific Avenue wanted to know if Taylor and Russell were in Las Vegas without being filmed.
A: Yes, that is correct. We do not have enough manpower to film all of the ladies 24/7. And any out of town filming usually costs extra. Since we had recently been to Vegas for the dueling parties, and were only days away from leaving for Hawaii, we made the decision not to go to Vegas with Taylor and Russell.
Q: RealityFan4Life wants to know how much interaction happens between the crew and the participants on our show.
A: Really good question. In the old days when I worked on Real World almost 20 years ago, the common phrase was the crew was to be thought of as "flies on the wall" by the show participants. Meaning, as little interaction as possible. On a show like The Real Housewives though, the crew is coming into the ladies' homes and being around their children and pets pets so there is a little bit more interaction. I find the more comfortable the ladies and their families are with the crew, the more comfortable they are opening up their lives in the most intimate ways.
I brag on our crew quite often, and I'm going to do it once again. Our crews are the most friendly, polite and respectful. It's a really good group of people!
That's all for this week. Please come back next week for more sun and sand in Hawaii!
Tough season to watch. The awkward addition of the newcomers coupled with the severity of the disagreements between this group of ladies has been a real turn off. I don't find it entertaining to watch people be cruel to each other. More Lisa - she is funny in a very classy way. The best episode of the year is the "chipmunk" episode in Vegas. OMG, Hysterical! Paul and Adrienne are hilarious as the Bickerson's. They always make me smile. Consider finding a different venue for Brandi, Dana and Kim. They simply aren't fun to watch - its almost sad to watch them. I am sure they are nice women but...geez. Let's lighten up RHOBH. Isn't day to day living hard enough?
I like to hear about the crew so I hope you keep posting. I can imagine your job is very interesting. I'm glad that the crew and cast members interact. I can imagine that helps everybody to feel more comfortable. PS-I LOVE it when travel is filmed!!!!!
I really enjoyed your blog. It was very interesting & answered many of my questions. I'll be looking forward to the next blog, I like to hear any real happenings there are to be heard! I am a huge fan of RHWBH's, they are my favorite, & most of the ladies are a lot of fun, including Paul!
Love your blog! Something hasn't been addressed, or at least I haven't read it in your blog. Why don't Taylor and Kim ever blog? Taylor wrote a book, so she clearly has the ability to do so. They haven't written one blog this season. Why?
Thank you; I appreciate your insights. Although I love these shows, I sometimes wonder how scripted they are. But these stories are just too real and there's nothing fun or entertaining about divorce, spousal or substance abuse, suicide, or having your dear friends claiming that you "prey on the week" behind your back. Furthermore, if it were so easy to script these shows, maybe the Housewives of DC and Miami would still exist...
Happy New Year and keep up the good work. :-)
I agree with you. I think Adrienne stated it beautifully: You can't draw people into your affairs, work your way out of it and then sit back and watch people self destruct right before your eyes and not take responsibility for your part in the matter. I believe that Kyle was upset but she at least had the guts to back Camille up when Taylor stated that she 'overexaggerated" what was said. I don't think what transpired was mean at all and had they answered their cell phones, that could have been alleviated altogether. It's funny how Russell could send a threatning email yet couldn't answer a cell phone. I don't mean to seem harsh but sometimes our actions have deep repercussions.
I agree that Kyle was over emotional. Nobody else was sobbing. Yes maybe she's better friends w/Taylor & it was her party, but still. Overboard.
However I do love the show & think about the crew all the time having to stand there for hours on end with heavy cameras, booms and all that other stuff. It's hard to imagine though, that they are being themselves with all these cameramen around them. But I guess they just forget about it after awhile. Like we do at my house on Thanksgiving.
Thanks for your hard work. It removes me from my problems, even for an hour. LOVE THE SHOW!
I am just curious what you think about the timing of Taylor's divorce annoucement while the ladies were on vacation. Did you film Taylor/Dana while they stayed back in Beverly Hills during this time?
Dave, Thank you for sharing all your comments about what you KNOW that we don't see. It is also nice ti hear that the crew has good relationships with the HW familoies. Is Pandora's wedding going to be on the show for us to see how it turned out. It looks like it was done well. Just askin'. Happy New Year to you and the crew. Love, Ann
I find it interesting that since there are so many crews, we have the benefit of seeing both sides of the coin many times. The Taylor situation is one example. At the tea party, she got upset because Camille aired her dirty laundry, but then she tells Russell it was an exaggerated version and he says it was 100% untrue, she states that it wasn't untrue it was just exaggerated, and then with her shrink she tells him that Camille said exactly what she told her and doesn't say any of it was exaggerated.
Dave, I really enjoy your blogs. Very informative. I don't for a second think the show is scripted. After all, who in the world could write a script that included the lunacy of Taylor Armstrong?
I have a real problem with the fact that Taylor and Russell had a crew with them in the limo on the way to the white party. I'm quite sure that crew was in touch with the crew already at the white party and knew what was going to go down with the uninvite. In retrospect, don't you wish that Taylor and Russell were warned ahead of time of the uninvite.
Enjoy reading your blogs with the inside info. But really, in reality friends do sue friends and family sues family, and neighbors sue neighborts, etc. If Taylor had been honest with Russell from the beginning, he would never had to feel like he needed to send the email. Unfortunately, we will never hear the true full story of anything that happened. Taylor had the opportunity to let him know that she had been talking about their marriage to others when he considered suing Lisa. I also find it hard to believe that Adrienne had planned a Vegas weekend the same time that Pandora was having a party (said she had heard about it but wasn't she planning on inviting Lisa for the weekend at least then she would have gotten the whole story). Never came to light till Kyle talked Lisa into going and of course there would be cameras there. And, conveniently Kyle had a photo shot on same weekend and couldn't go so she did not have to choose which party to go to eventhough she instigated Lisa going to the bachelorette party. If I went to Las Vegas tomorrow, I surely would not stay at the Palms. So sick of hearing about it & ashamed for Adrienne trying to ruin Pandora's event.
love, love, love the show. But please consider losing Dana, Kim and Taylor next season. You can find better replacements in BH, I'm sure!
I am confused about Taylor's storyline here - had she been beaten and admitted to the hospital as she documents in photos for Entertainment Tonight, at this point in the story line? Supposedly, according to her interviews, this was when she told Russell they were over, after this beating......on the show, she makes no mention in her phone call to Kyle and Lisa about being in the hospital.....
This was a fun episode and I think you did great capturing the trip. The island hopper part was very funny. Lisa stole the show with her snarky comments avout Brandi. I love Lisa. She says exactly what i would. The only spoiler was Taylor's phone call. She had to ruin their fun. If she had any sense, she would have kept her mouth shut for 3 more days. Whoops! Taylor and sense are contradictory terms.
Okay here's what I want to know: Why didn't you show the brandi/chamille makeout sesh?!? We heard from brandi that it happened but why no show?
In a nutshell.. I would threaten lawsuit if some one called me a "wive beater" and it wasn't true. I feel so badly in retrospect for Russell. I could really see the shock on his face. Taylor to me plays the victim to gain attention. I still don't believe after everything that Russell hit his wive.. sad he had to die in vain so that Taylor could climb the social ladder. So sad. I really hope you post this.. I couldn't possibly be the only viewer to see her true self. I mean even while everyone is vacationing having a great time she calls them to be "the center of attention" making that fun trip about her. Normal people would of not dampened moods just saved it for their return. But again, can you say "drama queen"!!
This was a great episode without the taylor drama & Kim doesn't seem to have enough respect for anyone else's time but her own. She obviously does not want to be a part of this show. Neither Taylor nor Kim blogs, but they have time to do everything else. I suspect they sense any negative comments headed their way & choose not to do so. So why have them? Do a Jill Zarin, Alex & Kelly & send them to neverland, too!
Thank you for the post Dave! I applaud you and your crew for always getting great footage!
My question is about the invites between the ladies. Do the producers request for group events and outings that the ladies must invite eachother? It doesn't make sense as to why Brandi would come to Hawaii after a rocky relationship between her and Kyle and a lack of relationship with Mauricio. Does he even know her at all? For other events like Kyle's Cinco de Mayo party none of the other ladies were invited so I'm just wondering how that works. Thanks in advance!
I would like to know if the Housewives are contractually obligated to write blogs? Kim NEVER blogs, and some others are sporatic. Just wondering.
Sorry Have I missed something here. I watch in Australia perhaps we are behind. So my question might seem silly. You all mention Russell and Taylor but isn't he dead?
I would like to know why the blogs from the ladies of RHOBH are not consistent. Aren't they required to blog after every episode? We're hearing from Brandi & Dana who are not considered regulars and yet, Kyle, Kim, Adrienne, Camille and Taylor remain infrequent or silent.
How can Kyle, Adrienne, Lisa and their spouses make the decision that the Armstrongs could not go to the White Party or Hawaii for that matter? Seems Bravo should have delivered that message!
Some of are still confused as to how was it that NOBODY could get a hold of Taylor or Russell or for that matter the Crew prior to the White party. I mean other people have phones right? Coudl you please address that question? Thank you
Finally...a fun episode to watch! That's the kind of fun and excitement I love from the BHHW's! What's unfortunate is, even with Taylor and Kim not there, they STILL managed to bring their drama.
Great Job on these episodes! I really think I'm living the life with these ladies>>>LOL!!! I love these BHHW! Thanks! An awesome job done by the crew!
You need to do a reunion with ALL housewives past and present! I'd love to catch up with some of the ladies from OC season 1. Or maybe do a challenge like Real World/Road Rules or Fear Factor and have prizes go to charity. Shake it up a bit. Make it happen!
I so enjoyed this week's episode!...hmmm...why was this one so much more enjoyable than the others?...because it WASTN'T the "Taylor show" RHOBH doesn't need a drama queen dragging everyone down...RHOBH needs more of what you just aired with Brandi's antics and Lisa's biting humor!! 'nuf said.
Thanks for the crew blog! It's good to read the Q&A and to get the crew insight on what's going on. @ KYWOMAN, I beg to differ when it comes to Brandi. She's hilarious and fits the bill of what this show is about. Plus having her around brings us another side of Camille that is well-needed. We all have our own opinions on each of the cast - that's why a diverse cast works so well! If it were a show tailored to me, they'd do away with Dana, Kim & Kyle, but it can't always be about me - I'm not a RHOBH ;)
I have to say the Beverly Hills housewives grouphas been my favorite. I love watching how the other half...or the 1% lives. They are a great group of women. Lisa, Kyle and Adrian are my favorites. I don't like the fighting either. If I want to watch trash, I'll watch the jersey housewives. Dana, Brandi and Kim lower the bar a bit. The drama with camille last year and taylor this year was enough for each season so far. I hope when I buy the dvd's, there are extras of never before seen footage, including taylor and russell interactions that might explain is taking his life. That was sad. As a viewer, we too have only heard taylor's side. People I speak with also wonder if she exaggerated to make herself a victim hoping to be saved by the vanderpumps. I hope not, but we too need/want answers. Looking fotward to monday night , D from jersey ( totally misrepresented by housewives of new jersey)
I don't understand if you could not contact Taylor when she lost her phone why didn't you call Russel?
I think that Mr. Rupel has shown himself to be a person of integrity so I do not believe this is a scripted show.
I think he and his crew are only given locations of where they will be shooting and whatever happens on film is captured. Shows cost a lot of money to produce and there simply wouldn't be enough time or money to write and rehearse 'scenarios' that will be filmed. What about all the guests that the ladies entertain or are at events that are being filmed? I'm sure they wouldn't want to spend all day 'rehearsing' for some reality show! Nope, not scripted. Drama can be found anywhere- you don't need to stage it ;-)
Thanks, Dave. I enjoy your blogs. BTW- any thoughts on my suggestion of putting a 'thumbs up' , 'agree/disagree' or 'like' tab for comments made, instead of your moderators having to sift through similar posts by various viewers? Maybe for next season? xoxo
This is the first episode I've enjoyed this season--it was much more like season 1. I still don't believe an honest effort was made to warn Taylor and her husband against coming to the party and I think it was cruel to ambush them in order to capture the drama. But Hawaii was great fun, love it when we see less of Taylor, Kim, and Dana!
Happy New Year to you and the crew Dave!! Great job! (So tough to be in Hawaii- haha). I would love to see a little more of the men get-togethers. They are usually so funny and calm. Ken is a hoot and Paul is a love and Mauricio, well it's obvious- he's the beef cake! xx
Please, please get rid of Kim and Taylor.Nobody except Kyle has ever wanted to watch Kim and Taylors a con.I love this show but Kim and Taylor made season2 depressing, NOT entertaining
I loved the shot of Kyle strangling her cell phone after speaking with Kim. That is exactly how I feel everytime I see Kim. Who do we RHOBH fans have to sleep with to get Kim off the show, I can't take it much longer!!!
They did show the makeout session between Camille and Brandi. It was when they were dancing and Brandi was grinding against Camille, dirty dancing and grabbed her butt and touched her breasts! If that's not making out, I don't know what is.
I think it would be interesting to hear from someone who works with abused women. I suspect that Taylor's behaviour is rather common for women in this situation. She does make comments about her words being exaggerated and does minimize the situation - but only when Russell is around or he is likely to be able to view the discussion about her situation. Abused women often have to play a different role in front of their abusers; they tiptoe around things to avoid igniting the flame. She knew that her and her daughter were in danger and was desperate to hide it --- from Russell. Those of us who are not in an abusive relationship recognize that she was handling it all wrong by staying with him and creating a fake world for him where no one acknowledges what he does, but for a woman in that situation, it is a common reaction to create whatever sense of security she can.
I still question that there's no scripting going on. Too odd that Taylor mentions in the limo on the way to the White Party that she wouldn't have left Vegas for anyone but Kyle. Arrives at the party only to be told to leave. Coincidence? Doubtful.
Forgive me if this question was already posted, but how could the Armstrongs be so inaccessible for days? I understand losing a mobile phone, but Russell would have had one as well. I also assume, since Las Vegas isn't child-friendly, Kennedy's caregiver would have had an emergency contact number. Or simply call the front desk of the hotel/resort. I'm having trouble believing Taylor was unaware of his e-mail to Camille since he had already alluded to filing suit against Lisa in a previous episode. This was a perfect moment for some attention and pity.
Luv the Hawaii episode - mainly as it didnt have KIM & TAYLOR - luv the others especially Adrienne, Lisa & Camille. Kyles' OK but always wants to be the center 9f attention -Hi school is over Kyle. I agree with the person who said 'Kyle was over dramatic & tears didnt seem real - I am bracing myself as next week will have to look at Kim's boyfriend Ken (ugly) Thank U
I really want to know how Paul managed to grow so much facial hair in the span of a few hours prior to the White Party while discussing Russel's e-mail with Adrienne in his home office. (season 2 episode 16)
At the beginning of episode 16, he is clean-shaven, but then at the White Party (that night) he has facial hair that looked like it had grown for several days.
I get the feeling that this scene was created and made up to provide context to the events about to transpire. It almost, to perfectly, set the scene for the whole episode.
I don't think it is appropriate to blame Russell for sending the email when he is not here to defend himself. What is very clear is that Taylor told this group of women what he abused her. One of the women repeated what she said back to her. Taylor told Russell what Camille said. However, from Russell's reaction in sending the email, it appears evident that Taylor did not tell Russell that she told the women that he beat her. It is possible that Russell did not beat Taylor, and that, from the story he heard, Russell was furious and wanted to sue Camille for saying such terrible things about him on camera. If someone said something like that about me, I would have filed suit without the courtesy of a warning email. In any case, the whole thing was Taylor's fault. Even if the things she says about Russell were are true, which I find highly doubtful from what I now know about Taylor.
Also, to those who say the crew should have warned the Armstrong's of their disinvite status, the crew is supposed to be there simply capturing the action as it happens. They should not do anything to influence the "reality" depicted on the show. I know all these parties and vacays are set-up to capture silly moments and cat-fights for our enjoyment. But hopefully the crew can refrain from influencing the action at these events.
