Hittin' the Wall
BH Producer Dave Rupel tells us about his production fatigue and answers your questions from last week's blog.
Sep 27, 2011And now it’s time for me to answer the questions from last week's blog.
Question: BostonViewer wants to know if the ladies have professional make-up before every scene?
Answer: Since this is reality TV, the ladies do their own hair and make-up when we are shooting. If there is a big event like Kyle’s charity event, or press interviews then the ladies may have their hair and make-up professionally done.
Q: Bailey wants to know how to send in questions for Andy Cohen to ask at the reunion?
A: Glad to hear you are already thinking of things you want to ask! But we have a very big season this year. Tonight was Episode 4, and there are many more still to come. Generally, we don't start asking for questions till the latter part of the season. Watch Andy on What What Happens Live in November and December, and he'll direct you to the Bravotv.com website, where they will explain how you can submit your questions. Q: Several people were anxious for Kim and Taylor to begin blogging.
A: I saw Kim on Friday, and she promised me she was working on her blog. As for Taylor, she’s still dealing with a lot, but I will make sure she knows that people want to hear from her, and our sending her good thoughts!
Q: RllovesBH asks why we show the same footage in different episodes, for example, Lisa looking at the empty space next to Sur?
A: Lisa does look at the space in both 203 and 204, but they are different beats. In 203, she is showing the space to her husband Ken to first broach the idea. In 204, Lisa and Ken bring their business partner to show them the space, while Lisa goes over her ideas in more depth. Similar scenes, but not a repeat. (Though sometimes we do play flashbacks from previous episodes if we think it will make the storytelling more clear.)

Hi Adrienne, Just want let you know you've always been one my favorite castmates this season and last season. You always carry your self with dignity and grace. I can see why your so accomplished. Your a true inspiration and your kindness and heart always shine through. Thanks for always being the voice of reason on the show.
Why did you feel the need to bring in Brandi and Dana? The show was great last season.
Mr. Rupel...I am confused about the casting. Sometimes I will see advertisements for open calls for the casting of Real Houswives franchise. I am starting to believe this is just a publicity stunt because everytime a new member comes on board the franchise she is a friend of one of the ladies in the show. For example Brandi +Adrienne, Dana + Taylor, Cynthia + Nene, Cindy Barshop + Ramona, Peggy + Alexis, and last but not least the infamous feuding relatives of Theresa. Does any housewife ever get cast by going to one of your open calls?
When editing how do you decide what stays in and what hits the cutting room floor? Do you piece scenes together?
Have you all started the search for the new NYC housewives?
Have you ever been filming and had a time that you felt it was appropriate to "stop" filming because a situation was out of control or too intense and beyond what is appropriate to be filmed?
Thank you for answering our questions. I disagree with Guess12 - I'm happy you brought Dana and Brandi into the mix. One question though - why were they not cast as official housewives? Just curious why/how you make the distinction between "housewife" and "friend of a housewife"...
I would like to commend you at Bravo for the fantastic job you have done in addressing the suicide issue head on. I really have mad respect for ya'll at Bravo. I think Andy does a great job of handling sticky situations with respect and you guys as producers seem to have a similar grace & style. I'm not a flatterer, it is what I notice from my stand point & when someone does a good job they should be told. Guess I'd better go write on Andy's blog now. Hats off! Standing ovation!
Did the ladies know Brandi and Dana were new cast members when they showed up at Kyle's party? Please explain how this is done so we see a natural reaction to the new ladies. Thank you
