Wow. After a season of getting less than a dozen replies per blog, last week's blog received over two hundred and twenty! And most people were not very happy with me. Since the Kyle-Kim-Brandi conflict continues through tonight's episode, let me try and answer some of your comments from last week.
Many of you questioned why I wrote a blog in defense of Kyle in the first place. The answer is simple, really. It's because I felt Kyle needed someone on her side. But that in no way means I'm anti-Brandi. To many of you, it seemed as if I can't be impartial. But the truth is, whatever my personal feelings are, I keep them out of my job. Over the weekend, I attended a wedding of a dear old friend who married a publisher of a major newspaper. The publisher and I often talk about how we are old school in that we keep our personal feelings out of our work -- which is the way journalists and producers used to always handle their jobs. However, in the days where some news networks lean one way or the other, maybe people don't expect producers to be impartial. However, that's the way I do my job. No matter how many times people ask me who is my favorite, I never answer that question -- because it's my job to treat everyone equally. That's why I didn't intervene in the Game Night argument on either side. Did I feel bad for Brandi? Absolutely. But, as I've stated before, my job is to document the reality, not alter it. However, the moment Brandi was off-camera and being driven home, I called her to make sure she was okay.
Kim was on Kyle's side and no one was on Brandi's side. So Dave it is still not clear why you defended Kyle last week. Wanna try again?
You were absolutely correct in defending Kyle. Kyle is great, and I'm sure this mean girl thing is temporary. As you said, look how great Camille turned out to be. It would've been a shame if she didn't come back for Season 2, which she considered. She's awesome now. I'm not jumping ship on Kyle yet. I've acted ridiculous at times also.
I don't think that the issue, if there is one, is that your viewers don't understand the need for impartiality. The issue is that there is really no excuse for the kind of sordid behavior the Richards sisters engaged in on that particular evening. None. Women see through this kind of foolishness because very few of us manage to grow up without experiencing it firsthand. "She's a good mother and a great friend, a really wonderful person, etc etc." Please! Neither of these sisters is particularly bright or interesting--one doesn't require that in watching these shows. But the level of vitriol was off the charts, and I applaud Brandi for calling them both out to their faces in real time. In the end, Brandi, for all her vulgarity, may very well end up saving that poor sick woman's life. You all are enabling a person who is obviously profoundly unwell and exploiting her for profit. On top of that, the show promotes and makes use of her younger, in some ways even dimmer sibling. Some partiality on that front might indeed be a wise move on production's part.
Dave, Kyle needs no defense, she can very well defend herself, are you sure you were shooting, did you not see everyone is no Kyle's side, especially on the housewifes, did you see spa day, even Adrienne wanted Brandi to gravel to Kyle, and Lisa my lovely Lisa was standing there like a pitbul, not one actknowledged Brandi's feelings, as a matter a fact, they laughed at her tears said they were fake, Kyle said to kim Brandi would get her other leg broken, I did admire Kyle when she said to kim we're not innocent. Lisa's blog is the only thing that somewhat took the red out of my eyes, you're a producer, should be neutral, then do not condone behavior that is incomprehensable, and I don't mind repeating my self, there is no defense for kyle and kim's behavior. I haven't seen any of my coments not one I know it hard for the beverly hills housewifes to recieve truth.
It wasn't just Kyle's behavior on Game Night that soured me on her. Her behavior at Spa Day wasn't any better. Brandi tried to apologize, and Kyle kept attacking. Kyle and Kim are impossible to watch. They bring back memories of girls I dealt with in high school and I don't like reliving that.
I love the show (LOVE all the franchises..Please bring D.C. back) and I completely understand why Taylor isnt blogging this season. So I just wanted to send her love and blessings at this terrible time. I too lost a loved one the same way and the guilt and sorrow stay with you a long long time. Just want Taylor to know that I have been a huge fan of hers from day one and that i hope she surrounds herself with love and good people. Taylor you are beautiful and amazing and a joy to watch. I hope that you find peace and that your beautiful little girl is ok...Keeping you in my prayers xxxx
You sound a lot like Kyle. excuses. excuses. Why did Kyle need someone on her side if indeed you're so professional and impartial? You recorded and aired reality? So just sit back and let the reality unfold, let the consequences roll...don't defend anyone. She was fine with her behavior and so were you until the public reaction was clearly against the bullying tactics of the Richards sisters. In her blog, she basically blames Kim or how Kim makes her feel for the way she behaved. That's weak. I'm not buying it. But I'm sure somebody will.
I find it interesting that you have lot of favorable things to say about Kyle and yet, when speaking up for Brandi, you give her a backhanded compliment by critiquing her fashion choices.
I think Brandi got a raw deal from most of the "housewives" however, she diminsihes herself with her salty language.. not good to do in public.
Kyle had her sister on her side. Dana is the worst hostess on the planet and let the beat down continue. Camille and Taylor were making like Switzerland with their cowardly neutral stance. And Brandi had no one on her side. Stick to dishing the background drivel because your sense of fair play is way off.
I am sure that as a producer, you wouldn't get nearly the ratings that you do if you didn't film and air the conflicts. You can say it all night long, but you are there to make a successful show, not be friends with the cast. The editing is up to you and Bravo. If you think the girls are not being shown in the way you want, change it.
I actually like the more opinionated detailed you, this show is all about hearing both sides to everything, that is why I read everyones blog, as to try & figure out what's really going on. I liked hearing the fact that Kyle works hard & gives 110 percent! She is a bit mean sometimes, yet maybe it's for the show, your blog helped me understand her a bit more. Yes, is was true what you said about Camille, she really isn't a horrible person. Poor thing it really showed that she didn't what the housewives previous to starring in one of the shows, her interview private jokes were so out of line & strange. You did help me stay open minded until the end, & you were right about her being a nice lady. I guess that is what I do is try to discern through all of the filmed show to figure out what each person is really like. I don't like hating a housewife, it's fun to see what other people do & think, yet there always seems to be one of the HW's that just can't hide their behavior. Thanks for your blogs. Y
