I'm On a Boat

BH Producer Dave Rupel discusses the difficulties of filming at sea and answers your questions.

Aloha, readers! I hope you enjoyed our second Hawaiian episode on the beautiful island of Lanai.

NOTE: Next week's episode of the grand re-opening of Lisa's restaurant, Sur, will super-sized, so if you're recording set your devices for 15 minutes longer!

As always, I have to thank our extraordinary crew for capturing all the beauty and drama of this episode. In particular I have to single out our Director of Photography Matt Valentine. He is the reason you see all the beautiful underwater footage when the cast went snorkeling.

I have to also thank our team for working so good on the fly and with the island conditions. When you shoot on a boat, you never know if anyone will experience seasickness. We had both Dramamine and ginger root available for the crew to take, but still we had two people go down for the count. Also, hats off to cameraman Parker Whittemore for shooting from the small, and quite bouncy follow boat. (I know it was bouncy, because that's the boat I rode on.)

The other challenge of the boat day was Kim and Ken oversleeping. The boat had only been booked for a certain time period, so it really had to leave. We had two crews shooting the sailing trip, while the third crew was scheduled to shoot b-roll until our return. But when Kim and Ken missed the bus to the boat, we scrambled to get the crew back and shoot Kim and Ken. It was a big resort where we were staying, so scrambling was easier said than done, but as always our stellar crew pulled it off.

Everyone seems to enjoy photos when I include them, so here are a couple of my favorites.

That's the majority of our cast and crew on the day we departed back to Los Angeles. We knew the season was almost over, so it was fun to get (almost) the entire production crew together for a group shot.

Here is a shot of some of our crew on the flight back from Honolulu, we were all exhausted, so most chose to catch up on some sleep!

Now, on to answer some of your questions.

Q: The number one question I get asked are why don't Taylor and Kim blog?
We encourage all the women to blog because it's a great way to be interactive with the audience. However, with after the difficult years both Taylor and Kim have had, they've had a lot of other things to focus on it was felt better that they didn't.

Q: Ann wants to know if we will get to see Lisa's daughter Pandora's wedding this season?
A: Yes! Pandora'a wedding takes place in Episode 20, our season finale, which will air on Monday, January 23.

Q: Several viewers are still not fully believing Taylor's accusations about Russell.
A: We shot the Season 2 reunion last Thursday, January 5. There was a great deal of discussion about that very subject. Hopefully, all of your questions will be answered when it airs in a few weeks.

Q: HelJ19 wants to know why Kyle would invite Brandi on the Hawaii trip?
A: This may have wound up on the editing room floor, but I know there was a mention of Camille liking Brandi and wanting another single lady on the trip.

Q: Born on the 4th wants to know when the reunion will air and when can they have a preview?
A: Part 1 of the Reunion will air Monday, January 30, and Part 2 will air Monday, February 6. Not sure when the previews will start running, as our editors just started editing the footage today! However, Andy Cohen took some behind-the-scenes flip camera footage that I'm sure will turn up on Bravotv.com.

Q: bchie wants us to add Allison Dubois, Camille's psychic, to the cast.
A: Trust me, the producers love Allison as much as the fans do. If she ever wanted to film with us again, we'd love it! However, Allison does not live in Los Angeles.

That's it for this week! Tune in next week for the grand re-opening of Lisa's expanded restaurant, Sur.
