Kim Richards

Kim updates us on Kingsley, her kids, and shares what she really thinks about the new 'Wives and Lisa.

on Nov 4, 20130

This is definitely been a transition year for me! The house is emptying out! Kimberly has graduated, and left for college! Brooke and her boyfriend, Thayer, have moved into their first apartment together. Whitney has moved into her very first apartment. Chad is still home, but he's getting ready to take some big steps!

So now I’m home with a very energetic, happy dog that needs a lot of attention! I really wasn't looking to take on another two-year-old at this point in my life but that's what I've been left with! Kingsley is my best friend and he entertains me 24/7! As you can see, we play a lot! He listens to my secrets! He's also an amazing cuddlier! But he definitely needs some training! I spend a lot of time these days going to pilates, meditating, and doing yoga! I feel happier, healthier, confident, and more empowered. Life is good, and I'm ready for whatever comes my way. Anything I say I try to do in the most loving way I can. Most of the time! Ha ha!

Over these last two years, rebuilding the relationships with my children, my sisters, and the rest of my family has been a priority to me, and it has paid off! And recently, I’ve added a little bit of my old social life into it! I am going and doing things I haven’t done in years, and I've brought my kids along for couple of the experiences! They have loved it! You will get to see a lot of changes in my life this season!

PS....I am in Canada,  so I think we get the shows a bit later maybe then in the states.

Reading all these posts,  Kingsley should NOT be muzzled,  and crate training is overdone.  Please, please, I'm sure Caesar Romero would be happy to at least talk to you, if not help you out.  If not there are better trainers that do not have to use so much aggression to train.  You want Kingsley to know who the boss is, but you don't want him to be afraid of you.  Hugs,  I know you will do what is right for your furbaby.

Kim I love you!  I always have and always will. So very proud of how far you have come and continue to go in your recovery.  Love you and your sis,  the only real people on the show.

I do think you need to find a different  trainer for Kingsley.  It is so hard with our furbabies,  I have mine and spoil them rotten,  but they are all small.

But having said that,  most of the people watching that show are far overboard in their  remarks.  That trainer HAD to show Kingsley HE is not the boss, as you will also  learn how to do.  Hard I know, but I have faith in you.  Keep it up Kim,  your great.  and I loved your rendition of Lisa's  fake  faint.  It was so perfect!!

Seriously Kim you and your trainer have done harm to Kingsley.  Kicking the dog in the face and yelling??? And you treat the dog like a baby and only enforce your rules once in a while.  Improper training methods and you are the main cause for Kingsley anxiety.  I hope Bravo does something about this and educates you and that "trainer".  You've only succeeded in adding to the breed discrimination against pit bulls.  You should correct this immediately!

I guess you don't need me to tell you that dog trainer is an idiot since so many others have already. But I hope you or someone at Bravo reads these blogs & something is said on the show about him!!! I would hope it's brought up at the reunion but I think Bravo should add something at the end of each episode he is in stating he is NOT training Kingsley correctly! To begin with, any trainer who screams & kicks at a dog does not know what they are doing! Then his training methods are so wrong. So please Bravo, make a PSA or something at the end of each show so that people watching will know these are improper training methods by someone who clearly doesn't know what he is doing!!!

Oh Kim, if you are a dog lover how on earth could you turn Kingsley over to that  creepy guy??  if you've got a puppy that is going to grow up to be a powerful dog, you train them to be the dog you want them to become while you are still able to control them.  You don't turn them over to a guy who shrieks, then kicks them in their own home!

Kim, it's clear how much you love Kingsley and I hope that abusive 'trainer' is already fired! I am so surprised you let him scream and kick at your dog and then sent poor Kingsley away with him tonight! Sad.

Oldbat66
Oldbat66

Kim, please, please tell me you didn't leave Kingsley with that abusive so called dog trainer! Poor Kingsley will be ruined for life being treated that way. Kingsley needs positive reinforcement training not someone scaring him and treating him bad. I saw a preview of the next episode and when I saw poor Kingsley in that cage muzzled and looking terrified, it just broke my heart. You profess to love Kingsley and say say he has helped you so much. Well, you need to step up be there for him now and get the best trainer there is, not that psychopath you have now. If you can't see or understand how that guy was abusing your pet then you need to find Kingsley a loving home. I am begging you not to let that trainer near Kingsley.

Your dog is AWESOME Kim & so are you, but please, PLEASE get a different trainer for Kingsley, the one that has been on the show is inept & only seems to use negative reinforcement which is BAD. Get Victoria from show "It's Me or The Dog" to help you. PLEASE!!! The trainer & his reliance on negative reinforcement will only make Kingsley miserable now, & dangerous later which is sad 'cause he seems to be a sweetheart of a dog. (She could also help Brandi with her dog who should not be using the floors to potty.)

kim, congrats to you on your recovery but I find your opening statement rather egotistical.  Everyone loves a story about you?  Wow, wake up and smell the coffee, girl.

maybe you aren't the best person to have a dog?  maybe a bird or a cat?  i think if you have problems managing your own behavior, that will also occur with the dog.  just a thought.

Kim I am so happy to hear you sounding focused and coherent. Bless your heart, you've made it through to the other side. I agree that Lisa's true colors are shining through. I also agree with the other comments, that dog trainer was abusive and only in it for the money.

You need a new dog trainer! That guy is an idiot and yes it's a lot of work to train a dog. Find a trainer who uses positive reinforcement not one of these new age trainers. Classical conditioning and positive reinforcement actually teach the dog a good behavior not just bossing the dog around until he does what you want.

OMG Kim big mistake, you need to get rid of that trainer. I have two diplomas in animal care and have done many dog training classes, THAT IS NOT HOW YOU TRAIN ANY TYPE OF DOG in fact that is abusive. Pit bulls already have a bad rep for fighting and causing harm to people when in fact its the owners who are to blame. this method of training this guy is using is the reason why dogs become aggressive and cause harm to people in the first place and so often is used by horrid people in the training of dog fighting. Kim please find someone better to train your dog, do it the right way with treats and clicker training.

Judybrown

Kim, could anyone persuade you to give that dog to someone that has the mental capacity to handle a pit bull. That poor dog is going to end up being another horrifying story of a pit attacking someone and it's going to be your fault, not the dogs. That trainer you have is not very good either, just find someone with the mental strength to handle that dog and be the leader you can't be please

Omg! Another yr of watching you! A washed up has-been who gives the show whining and look at me. No Kim,Kyle pays you no mind, and nor do we. An old version of Lyndsay Logan(except she can act). You give this show the "Chrissie Snow" character effect ( figured I'd use someone you would know in your haze of"soberity" my a--!). You have no place to judge if "someone's" acting or not!A has been drunk who lives off her so called "family". Take look back at past seasons, and remember how Kyle treated you! Oh yea,you don't remember!haha. I hope that Lara will clean this show up and get rid of you! Ruining the show!

You seem so happy this year - congratulations! I love watching you and Kyle - the 2 of you remind me of me and my sister.

Good for you for choosing a pittie puppy! Truly educated dog people know that pit bulls are known for their trainability and willingness to please (unfortunately, that's what makes them good fighting dogs). I'm a full-time, certified, professional dog trainer. If you haven't already done so, please find a force-free trainer in your area. Using correction-based training can cause aggression to develop (especially in fearful dogs). Old-fashioned trainers often make behavior problems worse, then say a dog is beyond rehabilitation. About half of my business comes from "fixing" the damage done to dogs after working with these kinds of trainers.

Good luck to you and Kingsley!

Kim, I've watched housewives since the beginning. I've been a fan until I saw the most recent episode with the "dog trainer". I am a professional dog trainer who used to use dominance based methods, but now I use ONLY positive reinforcement based, science based training. Training is a SCIENCE and should not be left to uneducated egotistical, dominance based training.... Please look at the Pet Professional Guild to find a FORCE FREE trainer in your area. I hope to continue watching your show, but I can't if I see this keep happening. I love Pitbulls and hate to see such an intelligent breed treated this way... *hugs*

@kimrichards11, PLEASE get rid of that dog trainer!  I really respect that you want to be a responsible pit bull owner, but seek out someone who is a responsible pit bull trainer.  That guy had NO idea what he was doing and was clearly abusive.  You are in California, there are a plethora great dog trainers who can tell you how to responsibly care for Kingsley.

michele.vanhorn

I was appalled to see Kim's experience with the guy posing as a dog trainer.  This guy has absolutely no idea how to train a dog and Kim and her son obviously have put no time or thought into researching dog training on their own.  This dog will only take this abusive treatment so long before he snaps.  You could see he was bewildered by why his guardians were kneeing him, yelling at him, and hitting him.  ANd then to bring another dog into the mix?  Kim does not need a dog.  She is absolutely clueless.  So sad.  The ASPCA should be coming down on this, HARD.  I don't tune into reality fluff to watch animal abuse.  I am disgusted.

Seems as though you have changed one addiction for another.... Before it was a substance, now it's endlessly talking about "how you are in recovery"...Not everything in life is a invitation to relate it to "your recovery"....

Kim, Kingsly is a doll but I felt really bad for him with that so called dog trainer.  His method was abusive and he seemed to lack the sort of calm control that is needed with stronger breeds.  I was mortified that so many people watching might actually take up his methods and use them with their own dogs.  I sincerely hope you got rid of him, as that is not fair treatment of your dog or any animal for that matter.  They can be trained well without being 'thumped' or hurt in anyway.  So unfortunate he made it onto the show to demonstrate such a horrible way of treating animals.  Those tactics can actually make your dog more fearful and aggressive.

Kim, I was so blessed to hear how you are working towards having Kingsly become a positive member of your family.  My husband and I enjoy your show.  We have a full blue nose pitty, and two half pitties.  I really appreciate how you did recognize that our breed do have a bad light against them but really can be wonderful dogs.  We do empathize with you with all of your eaten items.  We have found rope and rope balls to be the best.  We look forward to a great season and seeing your bond grow.  Also, our dogs love seeing Kingsly on television, they actually stare at the t.v.  Kingsly is a handsome boy.

Kim, just watched the show last night.  Please immediately remove that choker collar from your dog. Quick story...my sister has a big BEAUTIFUL, Bernese Mountain dog about 85lbs or more. Left a choker collar on the dog for years. One night they came home and the dog somehow got his CHOKER collar caught on the dining room table. No dog in sight but there were chairs overturned, big table was moved and blood all over. The dog had struggled soooo long and had gotten the collar sooooo  tight around his neck that he actually somehow someway popped his eyeball right out of the socket. I shutter when I think of this story. My sister said the dog came out of the bedroom with his eye hanging down by his mouth. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!  The vet said she doesn't know how the dog survived and that he had to be so close to death for that to happen. He was tortured for over an hour. Of course the dog lost his eye and is pretty much the same dog as he was before the accident. His eye is now sewed shut and they had to wait for weeks to see if he suffered brain damage. He is doing well but I just hope you and anyone who reads this including all you pitbull owners who think those choker collars are tough looking PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE take those choker collars off your dogs.

Kim, so happy to see you doing great this year & also so proud of you for sticking with it! Hope you got rid of that "dog trainer"!!! No real trainer would kick at a dog ever. And that's only the beginning of the mistakes he made! I hope you have found a real dog person to help you with Kingsley! Let me say also, pit bulls are no meaner than any other dog & for him to say they are is shameful. The way he told you to get Kingsley to sit was so wrong also. You tell him once & if he doesn't do it, you take your hand/forearm & slide it under the back legs from the back to the front which will put him in the sit. Then you praise him for sitting. If you can't tell, the guy really made me angry!!! So I hope in next weeks show we get to see you dump him! Stay strong & know you can handle whatever life throws at you! Sending you a hug & blessings!

Its nice to finally see you speaking clearly and looking alert.. That said, I hope you've got more going on than your dog...and being nasty to Lisa. Accusing her of "fake fainting" was incredibly damaging and cruel. I think you of all people should know how it feels when people assume things, and use it to damage your reputation... I guess you're still a mean girl when you're sober. That's a shame.

I realize this was taped almost a year ago, but I hope you figured out you're so called dog trainer was an idiot before the second lesson.  I have NEVER met anyone who works with dogs ever act the way he did.  Not only did he make himself look like a total idiot he did nothing to help promote the breed.  You would  have been given better advice watching you tube better yet it's me or the dog.   For Kingsley sake I hope you got rid of him.

Kim I'm proud of you and I hope you remain in this positive space...i think in the upcoming seasons you should take up acting again or do something creative because I feel you have a creative personality...i feel because of all you have been through you are a little introverted but the glimpses we get of your true personality makes people love you and want to know more about you I think going back to something you love will help you come out of your shell and make you America's next sweetheart

I think it's great you owning a pit bull.  Maybe I was stereotyping by being surprised you would have a pit bull and not a toy breed.  He may need some work so why don't you hire the dog whisperer?

OMG!  I just watched the most recent show, where the "dog trainer" came to work with Kingsley.  PLEASE GET RID

OF THAT SO-CALLED TRAINER IMMEDIATELY!  I nearly fell off my chair watching him with you and Kingsley.  I'm sorry, Kim, but the man is a moron, who IMHO does not have Kingsley's best interest at heart.  The man was not in control of Kinsley, or the situation ....it was horrific.  I was literally jumping out of my skin.  Wanted to jump into the TV and STOP the fiasco.  Broke my heart for Kingsley and for you.  Clearly you want to help Kingsley, and that man ... archhhhh!  If I may, Kim ... no 2 people at once should be correcting Kingsley as happened in the scene where you and your son were on either side of him bumping him with your knees.  One on one corrections are key.  I wish I could pick up a phone and talk to you about this.  All that said, I hope you still have Kingsley and have been able to

secure better professional training for him with someone who knows the breed and what they are doing.  I am extremely happy about your sobriety and the new path you have chosen to take in your life.  You hang in there, no matter what!!!  (I had the blessing and privilege of celebrating 40 years this past July.  Miracle!  I was the drunkest little beach girl ever in the 60's in Malibu,  I treasure my sobriety above all else; and I can tell you that if I can do, by gosh you can too!  Many blessings to you, Kim!

W T F…??? Where did you find this JOKE of a dog trainer??? He is ridiculous and should be ashamed for calling himself a dog trainer… especially for a pit bull!!! I hope being on this episode ruins his career, as it should! Everything he did, is everything you do NOT do for Pit bulls, or any bully breed!!! What he did to your dog, is what makes ANY dog nip or bite, purely out of fear! You said your dog was shaking, thats's why! He was terrified!!! You simply cannot "beat" the bad behavior out of a dog, especially a strong willed dog. You and he should be ashamed of yourselves and I am afraid for your dog, he deserves better… You don't seem capable of having any sort of strong breed of dog, no matter what good intentions you may have. Call Cesar Milan, maybe he will rescue Kingsley and give him a good life, because clearly, you can't! If you REALLY want to know how to train your bully breed dog, there are PLENTY of resources and none of them include kicking and punching of the dog!! …And if you think I don't know what I'm talking about, I currently have three rescued pit bulls and have had a total of six pit bull rescues in my life... all perfectly behaved and socialized. If Kingsley fails, it's only because of you...

Leave it to Kim's judgment to to think she had the strength and capability and follow through of being able to train a pit bull puppy. Another animal soon to be abandoned on RHONJ.

That dog trainer does not know what he is doing. I handle Pitts and Rotties everyday and you don't kick a dog.  That's not training its call abuse. Come in my house and kick my dog and you won't walk out of my house on your own. As soon as you saw that you should have gotten rid of that idiot.

After tonights episode I am COMPLETELY OUTRAGED. I have had pitbulls, and am a huge pitbull advocate for the breed, not to mention an animal lover.  That is not how to help to train a pitbull, not to mention ANY dog/animal. You do not kick at it, swing at it or do anything to promote violent behavior to an animal. Having experience with a pitbull, not to mention a rescued pitbull that saw hateful acts done to her, that is NOT how you train a dog. Then he instructs her to pull the dog by the neck for unfavorable behavior. NO. You do not choke a dog. As a "TRAINER" he should have first instructed that the dog be put on a lease, not to mention especially for pitbulls that is not an appropriate lease. Dogs need a  lease that do not pull from the neck, to prevent them from that choking motion. That chocking motion can also lead a dog to panic and become violent.   I am LIVID.

Please get yourself a new dog trainer immediately. I have worked with pit bull dogs for years, and have met/worked with some of the most reputable trainers across the country. Your trainer's approach is an out dated and could do more harm than good. Training should be enjoyable for you and your dog. Watching him "train" Kingsley was utterly despicable. Please help Kingsley and yourself by seeking the help of a reputable trainer. Animal Farm Foundation, Bad Rap, Out of the Pits are all well respected organizations that can offer a lot of advice and tools to help with Kingsley's behavior issues.
